What’s happened?
Have been playing this course for 20 years but it’s not the same. No drivers allowed on the range? The bunkers look like mud pits with weeds growing out of them. Course layout has always been good but pace of play is brutal. Last weekend the only two employees I saw were in high school, we waited for 10 minutes on every hole. Clubhouse has been redone but still nothing special. Hard to justify $90 these days.
Needs better maintenance
Overall nice layout with challenging holes especially on the back nine. Greens were on slow side with many unfixed ball marks. Sand traps were not well maintained. With a little better maintenance it could be an excellent public course and a good value.
Golf Review Magazine
I write reviews all over the USA, for Golf, Reston Nation is not a bad course, a few things this course to get their house in order" Driving Range" Nice, BUT until you want to start warming-up hitting your Driver, Fairway Woods, etc.. Irons only"
I was told it's been this way for months" Sad. No Hot food, available, currently only cold sandwiches, the kitchen is under a remodel, I've been told" the hardest working person here in the Beverage cart.
As for the course" greens are nice, the pace of play is way too slow, The sand traps" the word here is SAND" There is None" they WARNING" it will be a 5+hr tour, they push foursomes out asap. backing it up even on the first tee off time" I've never seen 3 foursomes waiting just on the first tee..
Last time myself and many I know play Reston National
We used to play Reston every week for years. The cost has increased significantly since the pandemic demand but the money isn’t going into the course. It costs 89 to play Reston on a weekday late afternoon but it’s a 60 weekday course at best. Penderbrook and Herndon are both in better condition and charge a fair price. Also if every single bunker is unplayable then you shouldn’t charge your normal exorbitant rate. Today it took 4 hours to get to the 12th hole it was so slow, didn’t see the ranger once, so not only is it overpriced but you guys are packing people in and it’s just overall garbage. We just drove off the course from the 12th, didn’t ask for any sort of credit, and will never ever play this course again after playing it for over a decade. Enough is enough. Treat your customers right.
Stunning views and challenging course
Really well thought out course. Has uphills and downhills if you get off the fairway even a bit. Scenic course. Not congested. The greens are not simple. Course is extremely well maintained.
Cart Paths and Golf Carts Need Attention
The cart paths really need repaving. I had my own cart but would have have to drive much more slowing with a passenger. Large cracks through made for a very bumpy ride. My golf needed repair. The roof kept slamming into the meddle bars holding it in place. Rather annoying, even for a gas cart.
Good course
Reston is a good course and it's a pretty challenging. It's a bit over priced at $104 but they can do it because they have a lot of people that love the course and the convenience of location.
Won’t be back
I won’t be back but it’s not like the place is awful. I guess the first thing that irked me was not being able to warm up my driver on the range. I just paid over a hundred bucks and I can’t make sure I’m going to get off the first tee good? Come on. I mentioned it to an older woman in the group behind us and she said “well, you could always play somewhere else”. Two things: 1. Had it been in the website that the driving range was irons only, I wouldn’t have been there to begin with, and 2. I completely agree with her. Now that I know what I’m likely to encounter here, I can play elsewhere, and I recommend that you do the same.
Really overpriced
This is a $30-40 value course, the course is decent but not worth the $80 they charge to play it.
Greens were in great shape but it had rained when we played them so they were slow, no water was kept in the water coolers, carts are old and outdated for such a “premier” course.
Course in good/decent shape but not worth $80 on a weekday afternoon
Tee boxes, fairways and greens were in decent shape, with some patchiness here and there. This is on par with any of the nearby muni courses for this time of year, Twin Lakes, Algonkian, Falls Road etc.. My main gripe is the price I paid for a weekday PM round. There is no way Reston National is worth $85 (with cart) for a Thu PM round.
Sand Traps have no sand…
Course plays well. Fairways green and we’ll maintained. Greens are very slow. No sand in bunkers just dirt (very disappointing). Starter tried to rush our start. Pace of play was slow.
