Ocotillo Golf Club - Gold/Blue
About
The Ocotillo Golf Resort sits on 185 acres and features lush contoured fairways that flow gently amid patches of mature trees, vibrant flower beds, pretty waterfalls and numerous lakes.
The Gold nine is a devilish test and not just because water comes into play on six of the holes. The greens have a lot of slope in them and are difficult to read. And some pin placements are brutal; hit a downhill putt two feet past the
hole, and it might roll down into a swale and 30 feet by. Uphill putts, on the other hand, are extremely difficult to get to the hole, if for no other reason than Ocotillo's greens aren't as fast as some of the Valley's marquee desert courses.
Two holes stand out on the Gold: No. 5 is a 212-yard par 3 with water running down the entire left side; and No. 9 is a 468-yard par 4 with a carry over water from the tee -- water that dissects the fairway about 50 yards short of the green and water left to the green. Par there is a great score.
Ocotillo's Blue Course is a watery grave; water comes into play on eight of the nine holes. It's not overly long but there's so much water the length becomes irrelevant. The best hole may be No. 1, a 590-yard par 5. Big hitters are faced with the classic risk-reward: Do they lay-up on their second shot or try to fly a tributary that splits the fairway about 50 yards short of the green?

Played 5 days in a row during this golf trip and Ocotillo was the best course we played…. If I have a complaint it was just that the number of bathroom facilities could’ve been greener on the course
You do not get what you pay for
Overall enjoyed the course, challenging and decently maintained. Greens have numerous pitch marks that should have been repaired/maintained. For the price range balls should be included! There were no towel buckets available and no drinking water on the course. No cart GPS, this facility really needs it due to the numerous water hazards, etc. Pace of play was marginal, there was a tournament (on a Saturday) that started earlier in the morning causing tee time delays. BLUF: not what I expected for a course charging $135 plus $$ for range balls and no cart GPS.

Pace of play was slow
The course was in excellent shape
Greens not as fast as I expected
Staff was excellent
Good value for your money
Lost Item
I played Ocotillo on Thursday, Feb 24. An afternoon round. Really nice facility. Great day.
However, when we finished, I left my cart speaker/GPS on the cart when we finished. We were among the final players off the course that day. Within 20 minutes of leaving the course, I realized my error. I immediately called the club. The Pro Shop was already closed, so I left a message.
I called back first thing Friday morning. I was told they had received my message and had checked the carts in the garage. The speaker/GPS was not there. At that point, it had not been turned in. They took my name and contact information and told me they’d continue to check, and let me know if it “turned up”. I called again today. No luck.
There is no question that it was taken by an employee. There was no one else left there to grab it from the cart. If they have employees stealing things from customers (again, we were among the last players on the course - there was nobody else there to grab it), then it is a place I don’t want to patronize.
I recognize that had I not forgotten to take the magnetized unit off of the cart, this wouldn’t be an issue. That’s on me. But I also know that what should have happened was their cart crew should have taken it off when they returned the cart to the cart garage, and turned it into the Pro Shop, hopefully to be returned to the rightful owner.
I won’t go there again, and I’ll share this story with others considering their playing options in this area.
Course conditions
I enjoyed everything about my golf experience. Unfortunately the entire course was covered with bird poop. Wherever you stepped you could count on standing in bird excrement
Always reliable
We have played Ocotillo probably a dozen times. We have always found the course to be in excellent condition, the pace of play to be excellent,
It has been a challenge to find tee times in Phoenix this year - unlike every other year we've played here. We were fortunate to get an 8 am time, and although it was chilly to start, it quickly warmed up, and we thoroughly enjoyed our round.

Great layout
Tee boxes were a little rough. Greens were pretty good
Good layout and challenging water
Overall good. Teeboxes need to be upgraded as they are small and a little uneven.
Nice day on the course
Really nice day
Course is in great shape
Easy to walk (just watch the goose S%#¥)
Pace of play was slow but this time of year all are.
The fast grill at the turn is a nice touch.
We have played here often and the course is always in good shape and a reasonable pace is maintained. Thursday was very frustrating. It appears prices were increased because demand is high, but no Marshall’s out to ensure you get the game you pay for. When you tee off on time, it should be easy to see when there is a problem and deal with it as most golfers expect
