Ocotillo Golf Club - Gold/Blue
About
The Ocotillo Golf Resort sits on 185 acres and features lush contoured fairways that flow gently amid patches of mature trees, vibrant flower beds, pretty waterfalls and numerous lakes.
The Gold nine is a devilish test and not just because water comes into play on six of the holes. The greens have a lot of slope in them and are difficult to read. And some pin placements are brutal; hit a downhill putt two feet past the
hole, and it might roll down into a swale and 30 feet by. Uphill putts, on the other hand, are extremely difficult to get to the hole, if for no other reason than Ocotillo's greens aren't as fast as some of the Valley's marquee desert courses.
Two holes stand out on the Gold: No. 5 is a 212-yard par 3 with water running down the entire left side; and No. 9 is a 468-yard par 4 with a carry over water from the tee -- water that dissects the fairway about 50 yards short of the green and water left to the green. Par there is a great score.
Ocotillo's Blue Course is a watery grave; water comes into play on eight of the nine holes. It's not overly long but there's so much water the length becomes irrelevant. The best hole may be No. 1, a 590-yard par 5. Big hitters are faced with the classic risk-reward: Do they lay-up on their second shot or try to fly a tributary that splits the fairway about 50 yards short of the green?

Restaurant service
Good food, service terrible! Taco Tuesday, recommended as really good, except they didn’t have any! Ordered chicken wrap, good food, but had to wait 25 minutes for it. Server ignored me when I asked how much longer as my partner finished his meal before I got mine! Not even an apology!
Ah...
Pace of play was slow, staff was ok but not what I would call friendly. I would rather play Whirlwind or Southern Dunes for the price.
Duck/Goose Poop
This course is in a beautiful community development so there are a lot of houses around the course. There are also a lot of waterways connected throughout. Many of the homes have pontoon boats located next to the golf course. Boats and golf courses don’t go together. I enjoyed the course layout as it navigates through the community. I would have given the course a solid 4 if it wasn’t for the waterfowl dung on nearly every hole. It is apparent that there is no effort made to control the fowl fowl. Like the boats, waterfowl and golf courses are better off separated.
Always in great condition
What a great course. Second time I played here (3 yrs ago was the first) and it was just as good as I remembered.
We did the gold/blue course and each were pristine.
Greens played true and were in great shape. Never cracked 80s before but this day I shot a 76. A round to remember.
Unregulated pace of play.
Twice in a week I played here. the first time I was paired with 2 women golfers who were beginners. It was a 5 hour round. The second time the starter tried to pair my partner and I with 2 high school players who were just learning to play. After I objected the starter moved us to the back nine and the result was we had to pair with a single and play at a slow pace as usual. I appre4ciate the effort but the result was the same. Course conditions appear to be on the decline. Pin positions were ridiculous.
Awesome!
Course was in great shape, challenging but fair, weather was perfect. A really nice experience.
Lots of Water Fowl
The course is unique to the area, not a desert course, lots of water. Big draw backs are the amount of Goose and Duck Poo! Greens seemed small compared to some of the other courses we played in the area. One of my biggest complaints would be the condition of the greens! They were riddled with ball marks! I know this has limited interaction from grounds keeping and more responsibility of the players on the course but they seemed pretty beat up. It was a fun course but I don't know if I will play it again.
Great course
Met expectations, the rate was a bit over priced for this course in my opinion but that’s what you get for a 9:00 tee time. Greens were maintained properly and pace of play was great!
Awesome Courses
The only issues I had playing this course was the bunkers and the grass clippings.
The bunkers had rocks all through them. They also had a couple with roots exposed.
Good Round of Golf at Ocotillo
I went with two friends with varying skill levels. The course was in good shape for summer, and pace of play was fine. Quite a bit of water on the 18 we played but you could avoid most of it if careful. Very nice bar and grill and pro shop. I have played there before and will again.
Water, Water , and more Water
I think there is more water than grass on the course…. Wouldn’t recommend if you’re looking for a fun round with the boys. Also the staff sucked… first guy had no idea how to use the computer system to check people in so the line in the pro shop was 15mins long, they didn’t provide any info about where to get practice balls or where the various courses started.
