Barony at Port Royal Golf Club

About
The Barony Course at Port Royal Golf Club constitutes 18 of this well-known island facility's 54 holes.
Playing to just 6,543 yards from the gold tees, Barony is a very enjoyable course for all skill levels. The back nine in particular is a fine mix of long and short holes. Like its sister courses at Port Royal, Barony begins and ends at the club's beautiful Antebellum-style clubhouse.
From the tee, many of the holes on Barony appear to be relatively open. But as you approach the green the real challenge of the course becomes clear. The greens are small and protected by deep bunkers and Bermuda rough, demanding an excellent touch with the medium and short irons. This is a course where accuracy, not length is the key factor.

Barony course Photo submitted by JIMMYLAW77 on 01/10/2018
First time playing this course
Course was in great shape greens roll true .nice course to play everyone was very friendly
Fun Course
The course is in great shape. The pace of play was 4:10, which is great for the HHI. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. The starter got us out early in front of group of 20 players, VERY considerate.
Fairways were not in great shape. Parts were bare or very thin with grass. Greens were fine.
Disappointed
I was trying to determine which course to play in this area. Since I am staying on this property I decided to play this course, 3 minutes away.
People at the course were very accommodating and nice. That is where the good ended.
Pace of play was horrendously slow, ranger apologized several times. A few groups during the 2nd 9 quit playing.
We had 4 groups at one time on hole 10.
The fairways were sparse and the small greens had weeds and poiana in them.
Fortunately I paid a discounted rate. If I had pay full fare I would have asked for a refund.
I just can't believe this course was rated at 4 stars.
Barony Fun
Very nice course. Great amenities. Barony features a lot of right to left shots. Not long but fun.
Nice Course
The course layout was fun and the people couldn’t be nicer. The Pro came out and asked how we were doing and when I mentioned the pace was a little slow he said the players ahead of us were members and he would ask them to let us play through. I declined but it was great that he asked. Fast true greens.
Worst experience, overpriced
Worst golf experience ever. My guest had a rough start, Ranger Rick stopped 6 times in 5 holes (yes twice on 1 hole) to tell us we were falling behind. I felt like I was at work instead of enjoying a round of golf. Ruined the day for everyone.
Greens were crap compared to the other courses on Hilton Head
Bunkers were not maintained, foot prints everywhere
Bogey golfers not welcome
The ranger ruined the day for my guests. I was stressed out and embarrassed. They got off to a rough start the first 2 holes, then here comes ranger Rick. He stopped to tell us to speed up 6 times in the next 5 holes. I felt like I was back at work answering to the boss instead of enjoying a beautiful golf course.
All good
I really like this course, the staff and the layout.
March is a tough month on course condition in HH because there simply isn't much grass in the fairways or roughs for that matter. Every shot is off a tight lie.
But definitely worth playing.
