Barony at Port Royal Golf Club
The Barony Course at Port Royal Golf Club constitutes 18 of this well-known island facility's 54 holes.
Playing to just 6,543 yards from the gold tees, Barony is a very enjoyable course for all skill levels. The back nine in particular is a fine mix of long and short holes. Like its sister courses at Port Royal, Barony begins and ends at the club's beautiful Antebellum-style clubhouse.
From the tee, many of the holes on Barony appear to be relatively open. But as you approach the green the real challenge of the course becomes clear. The greens are small and protected by deep bunkers and Bermuda rough, demanding an excellent touch with the medium and short irons. This is a course where accuracy, not length is the key factor.

Golf Advisor: Top Courses in South Carolina
Great course, and very challenging.
This course is a very good example of how the game is played. The layout is great for golfers of all abilities, and I recommend this course for anyone who wants to play in Hilton head.
First time on Barony
Greens were overseeded...rolled pretty good. Decent speed. Greens were soft so many ball marks on them. Tees and fairways were good with plenty of grass. Really liked the layout. Very fair course with some intresting holes. Beverage service on course was outstanding. Pro shop computer was down but the nice lady took care of us. I think 15$ is a little high for a bucket of balls were Oyster Reef they are included with the golf round. The starter wasn't very hospitable, even though we told him the computer was down, we had to stop go in and get a pro shop employee to walk out and tell him we were good. Maybe radio in. Just saying. Overall had a goid visit nd will be back.
Course was in great shape
Horse was in great shape even with all the rain the night before. Did have to play cart path only
Great choice on Hilton Head Island
Many courses to choose from here. Great layout and good course conditions. Very fun and scenic.
Great course that offers a challenge but is very playable. Beautiful track and facilities.
Played Thanksgiving Day at Barony. The course is fun with wide fairways, but watch out for the water -- not always visible and ringed with plants that swallow wayward shots. Pace of play started good, but two or three groups ahead got slightly backed up on the second nine.
Course is what you would expect
Not the best course, however very playable. Greens were good. Enjoyed the round.
A bit too much sameness
The course is laid out in a circle. So a lot of the holes are the same. A dog leg left. Not too. Fairly flat course. A lot of long holes.
Three Stooges manage a golf course
Staff was rude and starter was so unorganized that he had at least 10 groups wondering if they were going to play golf that day or not. Pace of play was terrible and no marshal to help. Stay away.
