The Ritz-Carlton Golf Club, Orlando, Grande Lakes

About
The Ritz-Carlton Golf Club, Orlando, Grande Lakes sits along the pristine headwaters of the Florida Everglades, surrounded by live oaks, towering pines, and palmettos. Two-time British Open Champion Greg Norman designed the golf course. He and his team focused on preserving the area's natural beauty and ecosystem. The ponds, wetlands, and mature trees were carefully protected and incorporated into the challenges of the design. The final result blends in so seamlessly it's as though the golf course had been there all along. Norman's commitment to the environment was recognized with the course's certification as an Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary. The player-friendly layout has wide fairways and generous landing areas but the subtly contoured greens and strategically placed hazards will keep you on your toes. Five sets of tees make the Ritz-Carlton Golf Club, Orlando, Grande Lakes even more accessible to players of any skill level.

Wrapping up a great day. Photo submitted by Scott4497478 on 11/06/2012
Not all that Ritzy...
The layout is a great Greg Norman design. As a single-digit handicap, it is challenging. My real disappointment comes with the conditions and price. If this were a $50 round, I’d be giving it a better review. At $250 around with a client I’m treating, it sucked! It starts at the range, very thin grass, soggy in parts and no where to clean sand from clubs and poor surfaces. Then on the course, tee boxes aren’t level on most holes and not in good shape - all chunked up and not repaired. As for the fairways, not terrible - a lot of play and infilled divots. I don’t think the over-seeding took very well. Bunkers aren’t consistent. Green side bunkers need more sand and raking. Greens roll ok, but filled with divots, collars are crap with sod inserts in parts or bare dirt. Scenery is good on most holes unless you’re staring at the ugly hotel and they’re starting to build houses in parts. Play with caution, nice place, good staff, terrible conditions for $250 round.
Beautiful course.
My first greeting from staff was not the best but not going to let it spoil my overall review. (Nicer staff when I came in)
Wish I had a better day (rained a lot) because layout was great and course looked in beautiful condition.
Looking forward to a dry day and playing again.
Would recommend playing this course.
Enjoyably low-profile
In an area where golf courses tend to set themselves apart with eye-candy and ostentation, the Ritz is an exception. Short on flashy bunkering, exterior mounding and other forms of definition, it tends to challenge the golfer quietly, rather than overtly.
This leads to an interesting contrast, because the property's large and imposing Ritz-Carlton and JW Marriott hotels are in view throughout the round. As the name implies, course conditions are very good and the facilities are comprehensive. Overall it's a solid upscale resort golf experience.
Fun first time at the Ritz
Had the opportunity to play the Ritz for the first time on Wednesday. I had previously been there for the PNC father-son event last year, but didn’t get to see much of the golf course because I was with my kids. I ended up liking the golf course way more than I thought I would. The course was in very good shape and there was a decent amount of variety to this Greg Norman layout.
My favorite hole was definitely the split fairway Par 4 on the back nine.
The site lines in the greens can be difficult as there isn’t a lot of mounding to give your shots perspective. I also found the shape of the greens to be fairly awkward. There were times when I walked up assuming I was on the green and ended up being considerably off and on the fringe. I was fine with this, it actually made it more interesting.
Looking forward to visiting again.
Very smooth
Great track and conditions were very good
Greens very smooth and consistent
Bucket list course
The course staff greeted me very professional. Driving range, short game range and putting areas were similar to the course in grass and speed of greens. Pace of play didn't come into play because, the course was wide open. Only one hole was a disappointment because, the water wasn't draining properly. Thus, creating unplayable area of about 25 yards in front of the green. Overall, the course experience was enjoyable.
Nice Course but Boring
I have to admit, I was disappointed with the course given the name (Ritz) and the fact that they have the PGA Father & Son there. The course is nice and well maintained, but there isn't one hole where you stand on the tee and say WOW. It's a nice layout, but boring. Nothing stands out (except the prices for everything). If offered, I'd play it again, but would probably take a chance on a course I've never played before I came back. Staff was great and attentive.
A must play course if staying in orlando
Played this course in hot weather and a few heavy showers but the condition of the course even after the monsoon showers it was a joy to play will definitely be back the pro shop staff the starters are all excellent
Great Course
Very friendly and helpful staff. Well worth the trip to play. Layout is great and challenging. There was routine course work that had recently occurred but course was still great to play. Highly recommended
Stay Away. For now
Conditions are deplorable for the cost. Stay away until it heals. Not nearly worth the price at this time. Staff could not have been more accommodating.
