The Ritz-Carlton Golf Club, Orlando, Grande Lakes

About
The Ritz-Carlton Golf Club, Orlando, Grande Lakes sits along the pristine headwaters of the Florida Everglades, surrounded by live oaks, towering pines, and palmettos. Two-time British Open Champion Greg Norman designed the golf course. He and his team focused on preserving the area's natural beauty and ecosystem. The ponds, wetlands, and mature trees were carefully protected and incorporated into the challenges of the design. The final result blends in so seamlessly it's as though the golf course had been there all along. Norman's commitment to the environment was recognized with the course's certification as an Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary. The player-friendly layout has wide fairways and generous landing areas but the subtly contoured greens and strategically placed hazards will keep you on your toes. Five sets of tees make the Ritz-Carlton Golf Club, Orlando, Grande Lakes even more accessible to players of any skill level.

Wrapping up a great day. Photo submitted by Scott4497478 on 11/06/2012
The Ritz
Four hr round, greens are quick, fairways and tee blocks in excellent shape as expected at this course. 5star!
Over hyped, boring and in OK shape
Bad layout/design. Boring and straightforward.
Played with a friend who was blown away by Orange County National/Grand Cypress/Southern Dunes/Reunion.
He didn't think much of here. Neither did I.
I have no problem shelling out well over $100 for a tee time, if its worth it. What is wrong with this course?:
- Such a boring, sedentry design. Really bad
- Conditions were the worst of the 4 courses we played that week. Range, though, was the best maintained.
- Its over priced and over hyped
The bad on the day:
- idiots hitting balls into you, claiming they didnt know you were there. Doing it on multiple holes, and when confronted act dumb.
- Pro shop not telling you some of the greens were punched.
The good on the day:
- Burger in the clubhouse is excellent (imo)
To those looking for alternatives at this price point:
- Waldorf astoria is better in every way. Still not a huge fan of it - but it is better than this place.
- Shingle Creek - its everything this place is (flat resort course with frequent views of the hotel) but in better shape, slightly cheaper, better design.
- Bay Hill, because at least it will sound good in conversations.
Or just go to OCN/Grand Cypress/Southern Dunes/etc for an upgrade in every possible way and save money
Great layout
No bad at all if you get a decent deal. Fairway and greens in excellent condition. Course layout tremendous. Fun day and will play again if a right deal comes along..
I want more please!
Shared morning tee time with a low handicap and since there were just 2 of us, we played in less than 4 hrs and condition and pace of play was great which helped with low score. This golf course is one of the best maintained courses in Orlando. Always a charm to play here and definitely coming back for more.
Good shape
I'll preface by saying a little disappointed we weren't made aware they had punched 10 days prior. With that being said, great layout and when the greens are back it's a must play if you haven't played it whether you're a local or out of Towner
Great course bunkers will be a challenge
Had a great time everyone was really nice. Course was great And excellent conditions. Watch out for the bunkers. You will like the course
Ritz Golf
Fairways and tees boxes were in excellent shape. Almost like hitting off a carpet mat. Greens were brown in some spots but rolled great and fast.
This course was up to my expectations.
Good round played after a shot gun competition.
Pace was good and the weather excellent!
Great Course
Great course for the $99 price on golf now.
Also great course for resident rate of $130
Not such a great value at the regular nonresident price of $180 - 185.
Staff is terrrific, friendly and accomodating.
Same for the Golf shop desk.
Big let down
I go to Orlando on business yearly and have wanted to play this course multiple times since its so highly reviewed. The greens were in very poor condition and the course in general was not kept well. Huge disappointment. The best part was the pre-round meal in the pub.
We played Championsgate the next day and it was immaculate!!
Special course especially with great pace of play
Course conditions were very good but with slow greens and a number of tees were scruffy. Especially for the money. ALOT of sand but a fair layout. We play this course whenever we can in season if the price is right
Always a winner
I have played the RC Grand Lakes GC many times although not in the last four years. I took my grandson (he is a plus 1) there to play.
We grabbed a bite to eat in the pub before the round. The food was excellent and the service prompt and friendly. The price for our lunch was a little steep but as this was a Ritz property, the rate was fair.
The course was in perfect condition - fairways plush with fast and true greens that accepted well played balls. It would appear that the course staff as well as the guests care enough about golf to fill most of the divots, repair ball marks and rake greens.
The carts were equipped with a basic GPS (front, pin and rear of the greens from your location) but the course is straight forward - no hidden bunkers or hazards.
The day was hot but the course has five or six locations where you can pick up bottled water from large ice chests.
Pace of play was acceptable - just under 41/2 hours. We waited but as a twosome following a threesome of spring break family golfers, the delay was tolerable and expected.
I found a reasonable price on the Orlando Ritz Carlton
web site. The regular price is $185 but usually there is one or two times where a reduced rate is available. If you are only going to play one course while in Orlando, the full price is worth every penny. Make room in your schedule to play here.
Great course. Challenging, but very forgiving. Staff is great and pace of play is never an issue.
Nice bro
