About
Editor's Note: Course closed for business in 09/2019.
Nestled at the base of Mount Diablo, Deer Ridge Golf Club wanders through rolling, oak-dappled hills. The course has several challenging holes but the hazards are balanced by more player-friendly elements like wide, forgiving fairways and generous greens. There is also plenty of room off the tees and at just over 6,300 yards it is a manageable length as well. Though it is gentle enough for beginners, the thoughtful routing and hilly terrain keep it interesting for low handicappers. Deer Ridge Golf Club's front nine is more open and slightly less difficult, but the back nine gets a little trickier with more trees and more dramatic elevation changes coming into play. The terrain gives each hole a unique character and different challenges. The wind can also be a major factor. Good course management will be well rewarded.

Deer ridge golf
They were very hospitable allows us to add a fifth guy without breaking us into two groups. Overall the course was well maintained we started at 11:12 on 4/14/2018. Due to the course length we played the far back tee which made the slope 135. The course was deceiving as it became much more difficult on the back nine. It is paramount that u stay out of the rough as to find a ball is fruitless for the most part. There is a premium on shotmaking for sure as errant shot will be punished especially on the back nine. My only complaint is that the greens were really slow and maybe need to be cut down more. If that happens this course will be a true beast. I intend to return later this summer. C. Tray
Deer Ridge GC-fair, challenging course
This is my favorite course in the area. Well maintained, friendly staff and competitive golf fees. As a single digit golfer, this course provides me a good challenge. Just wish they can fix the tenth fairway which has been the only achilles heel for this course. The greens are also recovering nicely from a recent aeration done as part of regular maintenance. With a couple of course closures in the area, this has become my home course, a pretty good one!
Good course great value.
For the frequent golfer this is outstanding value. Play is usually at a descent pace and the course plays to most levels of golfers. Not a course for beginners, but with some experience can be quite fun. Adding a driving range would be a plus, but I understand the restrictions.
Greens were sandi
For the 35 dollars plus fees to play was to much for the condition the greens were in. Slow lots of sand still very rough hard to putt on to keep ball on line as the ball bounces it’s to the hole cost out of line for conditions
Disappointed
Disappointed because there was no notice that the back 9 and the restaurant were closed. We could only play the front nine twice.
I wasn't aware that the greens had been punched recently and haven't fully recovered, lots of sand and slow putts. A few of the greens are weed infested and will require a lot of work to get them back into nice condition. The pace of play was way too slow for a course this easy. We played as a threesome and had 3 twosomes in front of us so it should have been a nice pace of play, Not Really! The twosome directly in front of us gave up after 8 holes and even that didn't help. This place seriously needs a marshall. On the plus side I really liked the layout and would like to play it again when the greens are recovered. The sand traps could also use some rehab and an infusion of sand.
Maintenance needed
Tee boxes are terrible. Greens are pretty bad as well. Back nine is dry. Hole 10 is about the worse I've seen. I will not be returning.
Not bad
Overall the course layout and the challenging holes made it fun. We were informed to greens were punched. No biggie. But making the turn to 10, and whoa what a difference of up keep. Fairway was not a fairway but a plot of land. Looked like it hadn’t been touched in months. The entire back 9 wasn’t that way, but def different from the from 9. Greens were good. Would love another shot at it when the greens weren’t sanded cause they kept you guessing.. shot 74 first time seeing. I will play it again when I’m back in the Area
Sanded greens
If I had known the greens were sanded I wouldn’t have played.
This course is a deal
Found a great deal on golf now for around $20 for 18 with a cart, it was lightly sprinkling and the course was playing just fine. I’d definitely recommend this fun course.
Slow play on weekends
We were following a group that was as much as 2.5 holes behind. No marshals to keep the pace of play moving. Took 6 hours.
I Will Keep Coming Back
I really enjoy playing Deer Ridge. It is always in good to great shape. It is challenging, and great for all levels. Pace of play is usually very good.
