Blooming grass on the greens?
Other than the negative weather/muddy conditions, the layout was nice and challenging, but the dry spots and the grass blooming on the greens, the course was ok. The greens were exceptionally slow as the blooming grass slowed the putts. Nice scenery; i hear the course is great during the summer. I will give it another try then.
Garbage!! Place is going down hill "again"!
The course is becoming bad again. The fairways are hard and dried. A lot of the bunkers had no sand. This place has no clue, a lack of leadership in my opinion.
The club house sends out groups starting on 10, while my group is coming up 9. Who does that? Who's the GM, where's the GM at? You guys need a new one, a new leader!
Personaltrain,
Thank you for your review. I am the GM of Salt Creek Armando Najera. I was there on property all day this past Thursday and usually on property 7 days week. Anytime you have a complaint fill free to come to my office or each out to our pro shop to discuss. Please give me a call or email at your earliest convenience to discuss this matter. Thank you and hope to speak to you soon.

always fun
If the quality of the course conditions matched that of the layout this would be one of the best courses in the County. This time the fairways seemed to be better but the greens were the slowest I have ever seen them. Not necessarily a bad thing because they are healthy, but surprising if you have played here in the past. The sand traps continue to be the biggest issue. Many are just clay with a bunch of little rocks in them. Leave your new forged sand wedge in the car.
Thanks so much for playing Salt Creek Golf Club. We have informed our staff and crews about the sand traps and are making the improvements as we speak. We're really glad you enjoyed the greens and the course layout itself. Come back and visit soon!
rough conditions
In general the course is falling on bad times , weeds growing in unkept bunkers, fairways unkept with spotty grass coverage in many places. Only good thing was the greens were above par. Price was right so dont expect much... i would rate 2 stars out of 5

Good greens
Despite the poor conditions of the fairways i.e. dry, hard and and or no grass, the greens are Really good, however the Sand traps need to be rate, they were extremely hard, hard as concrete they haven't been raked in a long time
Hi there, thank you for reviewing Salt Creek Golf Club. Thanks so much for coming out to play your round and we have informed our staff and crews regarding the sand traps. We are glad you enjoyed your round otherwise and hope we see you back for another!
Play here
This course needs you! It's a fun track, lots of unique shots and fun holes. Played mid-week it was empty! It's a challenge but the hazards are all natural, no houses or roads here. I'll be getting out of work early to play here again real soon!
Nice layout, long course to walk. Greens were terrible.
Nice layout, long course to walk. Greens were terrible and fairways were cut really low.
Hidden gem
I really enjoyed playing at Salk Creek. It had a nice view of the surrounding mountains. The course was hilly and well laid out. I saw a pretty big rattlesnake on hole 8 crossing the cart path from the green. The scorecard is very informative. They have pictures of all the greens and where the sand traps are around them. They have a very nice description and tips for every hole. I will be coming back on a regular basis.
Precision shotmaking
I love the course, local knowledge really helps! Driving to the proper side of fairways is a must. Greens are really good, fairways a little dry. Hit in the fairway and you can score!
DRY
I am current attending golf management school. I play A LOT of courses in the San Diego through Temecula corridor. I understand better than most the difficulties of the current drought for the golf industry. All that being said, Salt Creek was in really bad shape. The lay was good, the staff was average, the atmosphere was average, and the pace of play was above average. Salt Creek sits on land owned by the water bureau, so you would think they would have an advantage. That does not seem to be the case. If you're going to play here, just wait until the drought breaks, which may be years.
Should be named Dry Creek
The range balls, had, dried mud on them. The Ball washers on the course were empty. The bunkers feel like concrete , the greens are punched and bumpy.
if you are taking conservation to this extreme, same you gas and drive a few miles lees to play East Lake.
First experience at Salt Creek
Booked this on Golfnow at $34.00 for an 11:15AM tee time on Friday. Paired up with another single and we played as a twosome. We quickly caught up to a 4 some and it played better after playing through. The course is fairly difficult with rolling fairways and spotty lies. The greens were pretty receptive after some vigorous watering, but I could see them being very difficult if dry and cut. It was fun to play and reminded me of Maderas and The Crossings in Carlsbad. Not a great course for a beginner with some forced carries and difficult terrain with swirling winds.
not bad
Almost all the courses in the County are suffering from the drought and this one is no exception. What surprised me is that the course seems to be in better condition now than it was when I played over a year ago. The fairways are still hard and your ball can run off into trouble but they have a tinge of green to them and there seem to be less bare spots all around. The sand is still inconsistent and the greens are heavily pockmarked but I can suffer a lot and still enjoy playing here. I think it's one of the best layouts in the entire area.
Salt Creek
Salt Creek is a nice public course in Chula Vista. There are some holes with elevation change. Greens are fast and in good condition. Sand traps are inconsistent. Some have plenty of sand and others very little.
Looking for a nice field? This is it!
The Salt Creek Golf Course is excellent. I regularly go to the Eastlake Golf Course but this time I decided to make a change, and it was a correct one.
The cart has an amazing GPS system that not only tells you the distance to the hole, but it gives you satellite map, green features, etc.
The field is great, it is wide open, and the holes have some level of difficulty, but there are fun at the same time.
I am an amateur, and this is challenging and fun field to play, I'll surely recommend this field.
Above average
Greens in good shape. Real hard....but it is a links style course. Green side bunkers, on the other hand, are very poor. Most are hard packed. Actually had to chip out a couple times, ground was so hard.
Tough course
A lot more elevation changes than I anyicipated. Very tough when the wind is blowing. Some of the fairways are in shape consistent with the drought - coupled with the slope a lot of fairways are tough to keep the ball from running off. Some great drives end up being penalized especially if you hit to much club. Greens are in outstanding shape! A lot of fun but if it's your first round don't expect to go low. I wouldn't call it the nicest in San Diego by any means but it's a fun and challenging layout for those of us who cant afford the more pricey courses.
Complete package and great value
Salt Creek is a unique approach to the water shortage challenge faced by many Southwest golf courses. It is scenic and has many risk reward holes.
Practice facility is best I have seen in the area. Chipping and putting greens are excellent, and they have grass on the driving range.
Clubhouse and grill personnel were very friendly. My foursome had a great afternoon and really enjoyed our post round drinks on the deck. The scenic views were delightful.
Good, tough course
The greens were a little bit slower this time when I played which is good. Normally, the greens are very fast and it's hard not to three putt... If you're a good golfer, I would highly recommend this course
Cool! Thanks for your review and for playing Salt Creek Golf Club. We are so glad you had a chance to experience it and hope you check us again now that it's summertime. We have informed our staff of the greens where the blooms of grass may have been and we are taking care of such improvements. We hope you come back soon for another round!
