Dix Hills
Hole number 5 is under repair, it has a temporary green. This hole was also under repair last year when I played the course. Overall this is a nice course but short..
Fun in the sun !
staff is friendly. greens are slow. pace of play was very good, fairways are wide. range is a few yards from the first tee. you will have a good time !
IT IS WHAT IT IS
THIS COURSE IS GOOD FOR BEGINERS, ELDERLY, KIDS & LADIES. NOT A WHOLE LOT TO OFFER.
A lot of overs at this course
Overpriced. Overbooked. The front desk help was rude and abrupt. Waited at least 10-15 min at every hole.
Wait time
The course was in good shape but I had a 12 PM tee time and when I got there they had no carts and 8 other people waiting on carts. Needless to say I got out over an hour after my scheduled tee time which is totally unacceptable since i paid over 5 dollars a golfer to reserve a tee time which was not honored.
Good for beginners
I played the first 9 holes and it was fine for me because the course overall was short. Although I feel better golfers won't appreciate the size.
Fast 9 yp break up a work dau
Very enjoyable 9 hole course, no par 5's.
Nicely wooded. Very simple layout with low difficulty. Similiar to Merrick's course.
Great experience
Awesome course to play a quick 9 holes. Grounds were clean and carts were great. Definitely going back
Great warm up round
The folks at the course were terrific and accommodating! The course was in very good condition. Watch out for the sprinklers - 3 times during my round they just came on. Pace was slow because of the folks walking but I would recommend this course to get in a quick 9.
Fair Course; Great Pace
The course was in excellent condition and the round flew bye. For a public course it was not crowded at all. Great course for people who are being introduced to the game.
Dix Hills
Course needs to be kept up. A lot of debris throughout.
Good for the price.
We played a foursome. Course played through pretty quickly. Conditions were fair. Maintenance could be better. But for the money we had no complaints.
Do Not Golf Here During Normal Hours
I have played this course as a Beginner years ago, and that is the only way to play this course during Prime hours...if you are a beginner! For other amateurs, I recommend only playing here from 3PM or later, by yourself to practice your short game.
My father and I booked a tee time online for Father's Day. Golf courses are probably the busiest places on this day, but there was zero organization at this course this year. There were no carts available for people who wanted to ride, and people just showed up and got in line at the first tee as if it was a grocery store at check out. This was the most poorly run situation I have ever seen. The line was filled with kids and their fathers so I got a refund and left, after hitting balls on the range for 20 minutes because they said they would get us "right out."
Decent course for the money, but be aware of your timing.
Poor management
This course does not have set tee times and we had difficulty getting them to honor the time we expected. They put walk ups in ahead of us. The pace of play was slow.
Great little course
Played with my bro in law and it was a real treat beating him to death even though he holed one from the fringe on the second hole. But the course was in excellent condition and the staff was excellent also. Did not play my best but got through 9 holes in 2 hours. Could have played another 9 but did not.
Decent 9 hole track
Good 9 hole value. Greens were very slow and the fairways are pretty chewed up but you can't beat it for the value considering how much traffic it gets. Staff is great.
Nice Little Course
This is a nice little executive 9 hole course. The hot deals are really the only way that playing here is worthwhile, though, as it gets ridiculously overpriced when booking through normal tee times or paying retail at the course. The driving range is extremely small, topping out at about 160 yards, with a road running on the far side. It's irons only, but the distance means it's really short-irons only. Range tokens are $4 for about 30 balls, of which about 5 will be cracked and unusable.
The course itself is fairly nice, if pretty straightforward. The first two holes are pretty straight and unremarkable. The second hole, though is notable for its length: its a par 3 that measures around 250 yards, so shorter drivers and juniors may want to play it as a par-4 in casual scoring. The third hole is a tough par 3, with a steep bank on the left, bunkers all around, and trouble on mishits. The fourth is a short elevated par 3 that may be the easiest of the par 3s. The fifth is a tougher par 4, with a sloping green and uneven fairway from a filled in bunker. This green, and a few others, had awful gouges running deep through it, whether caused by a cart driving over it, a misadjusted lawnmower, or some other factor, it's awful to look at and putt on. The sixth is a straightforward par 3 with deep bunkers and runoff on the left, and more thick woods right. The seventh has a ridiculously short distance, and with the elevation, it's basically a gap wedge for all but the shortest hitters. The rough around the green is deep and there's lots of trouble all around which keeps it from being comically easy, but you could easily throw your ball onto the green on this hole. The eighth is a fun challenge, as the fairway is pretty narrow, like most of the other holes, and it's pretty slanted at times, but the green is eminently driveable. The ninth totally opens up and feels huge by comparison to the previous 8 holes, and you'd have a hard time getting into trouble on this one. The green is also huge, and the only trouble is a bunker past the green.
In all, Dix Hills Park is a fine for playing an easy 9. If you can hit it straight, it's really no challenge at all. Missing more than a few feet left or right bring really gnarly woods and waste areas into play, and make it a bit of a nightmare. But the holes are so short, if you're feeling off with your driver, you can easily club down and still have a reasonable approach shot left. Conditions are unremarkable, except in some areas where the tree roots and shade make for really hard pan surfaces. And the greens are really, really slow like its sister course of Crab Meadow, though nowhere near as well kept. So when prices allow for it, it's a great option, but it really has to be a situation where the opportunity presents itself to come play when there are similarly priced full length 9 hole options nearby.
Greens were in nice shape.
GolfNow price was better than resident rate. That's a good deal. For a town course it was in very good condition.
Well kept course
Well kept.
staff are very helpful and friendly.
Course plays slow pace, when full
great short game course or to play with your spouse short but fair
the course was very clean and well kept I was very surprised to see a small course like this up kept so well. The 4 par 4's were short but fun to play you can use driver and almost get there.
