Ballumbie Castle Golf Club
About
Ballumbie Castle Golf Club has an interesting and diverse layout where no two holes are even remotely similar. Located on the outskirts of Dundee, the course was a welcome addition since the area was mostly lacking in parkland courses. Golfers can expect to use most of the clubs in their bag, but not necessarily a driver on the first six holes where accuracy is more important than distance. Water hazards come into play on four holes. One of the most notable holes is the par-4 10th, which features a burn alongside the fairway, a sloping bank to the right, and a pond to the left. Ballumbie Castle Golf Club also offers a driving range and it is conveniently located less than two miles from Carnoustie.

Terrible Greens
Playing this course, the biggest disappointment were the greens. Everywhere else on the course is well maintained but the greens were terrible. It may be April but I would expect better and other local courses aren't as bad as this. Pitchmarked, whole patches where new grass has been transplanted, bare in others. All very bumpy. Disappointing
Winter Golf in Dundee
We paid £18 per person to play on Thursday 10th December, 2020. When booking in at pro shop prior to commencing, no mention was made that winter tees and greens were in use! In addition, the course was extensively modified to accommodate for the winter greens. Lack of signage around the turn on the modified holes was very frustrating! The course was waterlogged, and very muddy, and many of the temporary greens were unimaginably bad! We have played the course before and enjoyed it's challenge, but we're very annoyed to have paid £18 to play a muddy field.
Changes to course
We were disappointed to find that house building is encroaching on the course in various places and this has altered some holes and destroyed the peace and quiet of the more isolated areas. Despite the claim that no winter greens are used this was not the case although only some were affected. Poor quality driving range mats were being used for tees and these don't allow easy insertion of real tees. The greens were in pretty poor condition despite the favourable weather we have had.
This course was always enjoyable and this had certainly been the poorest experience we have had here.
Winter greens
Iv played this course a few times and it’s always been good. It says on there website no winter mats and full greens all year round but that wasn’t the case for this round full winter greens and the 13th hole a par five was split into two holes as the par three 12th wasn’t in play.
Good
Third time playing this course. Generally its always been a good challenging course with fast play. Today however after the rain during the week, some of the holes on the back nine were really badly water logged and one of the bunkers on the 15th resembled a water hazard.
Also the club shop was closed, so could not buy any food/water.
Great course
The course was in really good condition. Off the tee you can open up with your tee shot as it’s fairly open fairways with fairways of other holes running parallel. The greens were the trickiest with them playing fast, costing the odd 3 putt. Overall great course and I will be back.
You get what you pay for
The course is a bit hilly in places and the greens could do with some work - bare parches and moss is places. At the moment there is a lot of new house building work going on around the course - and they are constructing new greens and fairways. A lot of walking between some parts of the course.. Good value for what we paid,
Slow play killing golf
Sadly a round of golf ruined by slow play. Not the courses fault but still a wasted round. A 4 ball of women who were more interested in chatting than playing. We were patient and waited 3 holes to see if they would allow us through. Sadly they did not and we had to watch them. Not being horrid here but they were rotten. One of them was hitting the ball on average 30 yards per shot. Not enjoyable. We decided to call it a bad endeavor after 7 holes and came home. Sad to because Ballumbie is a great course
Excellent Course
Beautiful course. Sadly got stuck behind slow 2 ball. Seems to be a problem with this course. This is killing the game btw. But yo the course, really enjoyed playing this course. Bit tricky but enjoyable.
Sporty
The course is great fun and was in great condition. Really enjoyed it.
Very good
Very good course and layout. Pace of play was good, only issue is we turned up slightly earlier than our tee time which gave us a nice little gap between ourselves and the next tee time but the course staff just allowed someone to jump in right behind us who ended up right up our backsides.
