About

Holes 18
Type Semi-Private
Style Parkland
Par 69
Length 5315 yards
Slope 119
Rating N/A

Tree-lined fairways and challenging water features abound at the Colvend Golf Club parkland layout, situated on the gorgeous Solway Coast, conveniently located near Dumfries, Southerness, Castle Douglas and Dalbeattie. There are views over the Solway Firth to the Cumbrian Fells and, on a good day, offering a glimpse of the Isle of Man.

The original nine holes (the first nine) are short in distance but are very demanding with small, well-guarded greens and undulating fairways.

The 12th hole, which is arguably the feature hole, needs a long, well-placed drive to a fairway surrounded by out of bounds on the left and trees on the right. It then requires a very well-struck and well-placed shot over water to a contoured green.

The par-4 dogleg 18th hole requires an accurate tee shot between trees right and left and an accurate second shot to a sloping green which is protected by a burn to the front and side, a pond at the rear and trees all around. This hole was featured as one of the most picturesque holes in Scotland in a Scottish Golf Calendar from 2005.

Friendly Club

Visited Colvend Club as staying locally and had a very pleasant experience. Warm welcome by the Steward with good advice. Walked round on a nice sunny day. Course had been used for a local championship the weekend before so was well presented although the Steward thought the greens might appear a bit slow with the recent dry weather. They might have been but suited positive putting and ran truly. The front nine rewards you with spectacular views and some interesting holes. Back nine still pleasant with good use of the contours. Would recommend a visit.

Place to myself!

Think i picked the perfect day, Sun was shining, Flask in Bag, Off i went, Was told only 4 people on the course and i teed off around 11, and no one due on for over an hour so place to myself really. Staff said they never get busy midweek. 1st Hole up a big hill and first 9 you are playing on the side of that hill but they have done well levelling it off so every drive doesnt kick off to one side. Great views of the Estuary from the Top. Some really hard holes 200yd par 3 and to carry a wee Burn! 250yd par 4, easy you think but right angle dog leg and if you dont get the first shot right, blocked out for the second. Course in Great condition for April, Would defo come back in Summer if im Passing.

Wee gem

I have been playing golf for years and for the last thirty years have been a member of Royal Dornoch, so I'm used to playing a top quality course, but this was certainly the most fun I've had playing golf for quite some time.
There are two distinctly different parts to this course. Willie ferries original raised links layout which is tight with lots of natural slopes. Then Dave Thomas's nine holes with length and water providing both interest and challenge.
We will certainly be back to play again, keep up the good work. I should also make mention of the welcome and assistance we were given which was first class. Go Play It.

A scenic gem of a course

Well worth a drive to this picturesque course for the stunning views after the climb up the first hole.
The course was in good condition and had some challenging holes particularly on the lovely back nine. The staff were extremely friendly and welcoming and thoroughly enjoyed the whole Colvend experience.

Well worth a visit

The clubhouse was closed when we played at 12.00 on a Monday & there were no staff around. Consequently, I can't comment on staff friendliness or off-course amenities!
We really enjoyed playing on a sunny day. There were some interesting & testing holes.
