Eagle Springs Golf Course (formerly known as DeFuniak Springs Country Club) is Walton County's oldest course and one of the panhandle area's most challenging. The golf course sprawls across rolling hills covered with pine forests and five spring-fed lakes, both of which come into play throughout the course. Sandy scrub brush and colorful flowering bushes accent the landscape even further. The towering trees lining the tight fairways are just some of the many challenging natural hazards. There are also 23 strategically placed sand traps throughout. The small, elevated greens are pitched and undulated in such a manner that would make even the best putters nervous. The rolling elevations also provide picturesque views from nearly every point on golf course. Eagle Springs Golf Course requires accuracy and careful course management, but the layout is still surprisingly accessible for a range of skill levels. As part of recent initiatives and upgrades to the property and management, kids under 15 play free.

Don’t Bother

I’ve played this course multiple times over the past few months; I’ve left disappointed each time. They seem to always be working on the course but no noticeable improvements are seen. If I book on Golf Now, the employees seem angry that I didn’t book directly through the course. The greens have been unputtable in the past few months. Like other reviews, there is great potential in the course layout, but the halt of progress has dampened my positive outlook.

There are plenty of local courses that are comparable in price that offer a more challenging course, friendlier staff, and a more enjoyable experience.

Nice course with some fun challenges.

We have really enjoyed this course. The improvements they have made have been great. Recently the greens have had some issues, but I think they are working on them. The ones that appeared to be being repaired still seemed to putt pretty true.

Dirt Cheap for a Reason

This was my first time playing the course. I was looking for a reasonably priced course for this area (resort area pricing at most other courses) that allowed walking.

The parking lot was deserted and no one answered the phone (only 1 person was working on a sunday afternoon and he was parking golf carts) but the door to the pro shop was unlocked. So the course was open. I paid $13 dollars to walk 18 and went right out.

The course is basically in total disrepair as it appears they are rebuilding it with various tee boxes being built and lots of work along the fairways. But they are not watering at all. All the fairways and greens were dried out and in bad shape. The good news is the grass was short enough (because it's not being watered) to make it playable. All that being said, I didn't see any construction equipment anywhere on the course so maybe the project is on hold...idk.

At any rate, I liked the layout and if they ever get watering restarted and finish construction it would be a nice course to play. But for now, if you are willing to put up with rock hard conditions and basic amenities, give it a try. Can't argue with $13 bucks to walk 18 on a Sunday afternoon.

Work-in-progress still . . NV .

They still have a long way to go to get this course up to Snuff with area courses but it is a challenge nonetheless .

Only gonna get better

Eagle Springs (previously DuFuniak Springs) is now under County management and they are in the process of restoring the beauty that the oldest golf course in the county once had. I couldn’t believe the improved conditions from last year (2019). There will be times where you may have to pull your ball from “ground under repair” if your shot gets a little wild. Very soon this will be an excellent golf course and worthy of five stars!

Very small greens

With all due respect, the County recently purchased this golf course a few weeks ago. Apparently it was in dire need of maintenance. There were quite a few bulldozers working the course. Very hard to navigate around from hole to hole. We even had to let another twosome go in front of us so we could follow them to the next tee box! If you do not know how to put backspin on your ball to stick it on the green, you are in trouble. The greens are very small. Maybe the county will be able to get the course in decent shape by the summer.

Course conditions

The course is in fair condition , tee boxes are hard and shaggy. Staff is very helpful only pop and candy machines. The greens are very good, fairways are dormant and quite firm, cart paths need a lot of work. Overall a good value.

Work in progress

The course is coming along. The fairways are responding to the new irrigation and are getting into real good shape. The green and tee boxes are as bad as I've seen them. The need a total overhaul. With redone greens/tee boxes, this course will be a gem. Very enjoyable to play, just need some grass on the greens.

Nice layout, work in progress though. I would be shocked if this course is construction finished in 6 months. A lot of work to do in order to be completely ready. Tee boxes are in terrible shape, if your not in the fairway your hitting out of sand or a pile of dirt. Great layout I look forward to playing after construction is complete

Not Worth The Drive or Money

Many reviews mention this course being “under construction”. It is, but has much much much further to go. The entire course is hitting off patchy sand except for about 3 holes. The greens are very small and firm. But not the good type of firm. They are dirt and dead grass that has been rolled and dried. The clubhouse will be very nice once they finish it, but more work needs done on the course than the clubhouse. If what the reviews mention about the county buying it and it being under construction is true, then it could be nice. But definitely don’t see that happening this year.

Don’t play in the winter

The golf course layout on the scorecard the numbers need to be little you had to look at them through a magnifying glass too small. All the holes need to be numbered we had a hard time trying to find number five. The tea boxes are in great shape the greens are in great shape the fairway greens were OK. I am thinking you guys might want to look into getting a electric carts instead of diesel carts because of the smell and the way the car is handled. Other than that bring your A game all the greens are elevated

Good Value

Having lived in the local area most of my life, I have played this course many times through the years. Mostly because the greens fees were very reasonable for the conditions and quality of the course. But now that Walton County has purchased the property, this course is finally getting the attention and upgrades it has needed for a long time. I have been playing a couple of times a month just to keep up with the progress. Most of the fairways are improved and in good shape, as well as most all the greens. One thing that makes this course unique are the small greens. It doesn’t appear that any greens will be enlarged, but they are adding some new tee boxes. It will be interesting to see what the course looks like once they are finished with all the upgrades. My understanding was that they are putting nearly $1M back into the course, and when finished, the $25 greens fee will not change. If you’ve written this course off in the past, you should give it another try.
