Eagle Springs Golf Course (formerly known as DeFuniak Springs Country Club) is Walton County's oldest course and one of the panhandle area's most challenging. The golf course sprawls across rolling hills covered with pine forests and five spring-fed lakes, both of which come into play throughout the course. Sandy scrub brush and colorful flowering bushes accent the landscape even further. The towering trees lining the tight fairways are just some of the many challenging natural hazards. There are also 23 strategically placed sand traps throughout. The small, elevated greens are pitched and undulated in such a manner that would make even the best putters nervous. The rolling elevations also provide picturesque views from nearly every point on golf course. Eagle Springs Golf Course requires accuracy and careful course management, but the layout is still surprisingly accessible for a range of skill levels. As part of recent initiatives and upgrades to the property and management, kids under 15 play free.

Very Enjoyable Round of Golf

This was my wife's first time to play 18 holes, and it was an excellent course for her to play...challenging but not impossible for her to enjoy. I also enjoyed the course. We played in December so the greens were not in the best of shape. However, they were playable and did not effect our enjoyment of the round. We would definitely play this course again.

Ok for the discounted price

Wouldn't pay the regular price but for the discounted fee we payed, was a good value. Quiet, local course. Overall we had a great time. My wife who is a beginner liked the fact the course was quiet.

Nice 18 hole course for the price

Nice course for the money. We were able to tee off early and were the only ones out until the 11th hole. Finished up in about 2.5 hours.

surprisingly good condition

I played this course in the spring of 2013 and the flooding had destroyed the fairways and greens. I gave it another shot this spring and it was much improved but still substandard. I played it yesterday and was very pleased with the fairways....thick lush Bermuda. The greens were also in good shape although a little slow as I believe they are trying to let them get fully recovered before cutting them ultrafast.

Fast fun play on the way home from the beach

Course offers a very open and fun from 9 and a challenging back 9. Green were a moderate pace but good putting surface. A few blind shots and elevated greens that penalize a miss. Staff was very friendly. For $15 on GolfNow a nice quick round. Played 18 as a twosome in just over 2 hours.

the course greens and fairways are fantastic

every golfer should try this course once without anybody's opinion who hasnt played there in 2014. I made the mistake of listening to comments(negative)by other golfers,so I tried it,great experience. I have taken 3 friends over there and they all feel the same way as I do, wonderful greens ,fairways. I will soon join as member!!!

If you're in the Area

The layout is fairly good. The staff I had contact with extremely friendly. Course was in need of some goats to put it politely. Big and I suppose too much for their crew to keep up. Granted rain and other circumstances may have let grow out of hand. Greens were actually fine and rolled fair for the most part. We had fun as I grew up playing a course very similar. You still have to golf your ball. The layout could be better marked though. I believe the early spring and fall would be when course would be in it's best shape. That's when you can see a course like this at it's best. Cost's keep these old courses in these type of situations so if you're not looking for too much and a fun place with a country atmosphere give it try when in maintained periods.

Could be great

Layout and potential experience could be great. But someone needs to throw a great deal of money at it to make it great. Such potential. Current owners trying to make necessary improvements but it needs loads spending on it. Fairways need reseeding along with new tee boxes and serious attention to greens. This could be a great course. But I cannot see it happening.

would not go back

There were no real positives about this course. The greens were the best feature. The fairways and tee boxes were awful. There was a very large amount of hard pan - even in the fairways and close to the green. would not recommend.

Needs work

The tee boxes and fairways are in rough shape. With all the rain we have had the fairways still are hard and dry with little to no grass. The greens are on ok shape and are fast and challenging. With some work and updating this could be a very nice course.

Ongoing course repair

Although very reasonable cost wise, this courses present state, condition wise, I would not advise anyone to book a tee time at any price. I believe it will be some time before this course will be in good playable condition. The 1 hour drive from Destin Fl. to this course also added to the disappointing experience at this course.

Great Potential

Conditions much improved over previous years.
Although grass on fairways was dormant due to winter conditions, at least there was grass to hit from. Course layout is varied as number of holes have hills and water rather than just flat fairways. Traps are raked and well taken care of.

IMPROVED GOLF COURSE

Fairways have grass this year. Only snacks available but close by is a restaurant.
Greens are very tricky to read.
Friendly and helpful staff, good carts and driving range make the experience here a good value.

Not worth the drive

The course was in very poor condition and shows no signs of any kind of maintenance. The greens were virtually unputtable due to their very small size, their extreme slope, and lack of grass. The layout was very awkward and closed with 2 consecurive par 5s with blind tee shots.

Worst Couse Ever

Worst Course ever, staff did not understand the game of golf, she was going to start us off on the 9th hole because there was 2- 4 somesomes in front of us ( which each golfer had there own cart). Carts were old and in bad shape, We had to walk to a barn to get our own cart, it took 3 different carts to finally get one to start. Tees were not level at all and most only had one tee marker, fairways full of holes. It was not worth the $8.00 we booked it for. We seen our car on the 9th hole and just left.

Don't Waste Your Time!

This course would make a better pasture for cattle!! Picture of course and "Country Club" designation are grossly misleading. The whole facility is old, run down, overgrown and just poorly maintained overall. Don't waste your money, time or gasoline to play here. There are much better courses in the area to play that are a few bucks more but are far better cared for and much more enjoyable to play.

Complete turn around!!!

If you have not played this course within the last few months I recommend you give it another shot. The bad fairways were sprigged and have grown in very nice, also the greens are growing in great with the exception of a few. The course is very old so the slower greens were to be expected with the type of grass on the greens. The deal this weekend was awesome, they waved all greensfee's and let everyone play for just a cart fee. They have done a complete 180 and seem to have things going in the right direction.
