Great Rock Golf Club
About
Opened in 2001, Great Rock Golf Club is one of the newer golf clubs in Long Island but it feels much older thanks to its scenic landscape of rolling green hills covered with mature forests. The mountainous landscape provides plenty of elevation changes that make it difficult to find a flat lie. At 6,254 yards, the course is short but it is still a challenging round with narrow, tree-lined fairways that demand accuracy. There is hardly any water on the golf course but with strategically placed bunkers, sidehill lies, and towering trees to contend with, golfers will hardly notice the absence of water hazards. Great Rock's signature hole is the challenging 10th. This par-4 beast is a double uphill climb with a seemingly flat green, but if you read it that way, you're in for some trouble.

Real nice course but terribly slow.
This is a nice course but only if there is a normal flow to playing. It is very difficult to enjoy golfing when you have to wait on each shot for the groups ahead. There has to be a ranger out there keeping things moving.
Thanks for the 5-Star review!
Fall golf
Course in very good shape. Greens at fast but fair. Leaves in the rough tried to hide errant shots but largely unsuccessful! Good day on the course!

Poor fairway conditions
I've played this course several times in the past and enjoyed it. Unfortunately, the fairways have been let go, making it necessary to move my ball to a good lie on most fairway shots.
Great Rock Review
Course in good condition. It's much more challenging than it looks. Many elevation changes. Pace of play is good. I give this course a 4 star rating.
Amazed
I was truly amazed how fast this course went downhill. A good portion of the rough was crabgrass and miss 2nd fairway is nothing a crab grass and dirt. The 2some I played with, it was their 1st time here, they said , I "if this course was kept in shape would be pretty decent" If I can figure out how to add a pic to this, I will show you how atrocious tthe 2nd fairway was , the remainder of the course wasn't all in that much better shape.
Nice firm fast greens but fairways need attention
I haven't played Great Rock in a while. It's a good course with doglegs, guarded greens and water carry. Greens are still in good shape. But the fairways need a lot of work. Crabgrass and bare spots on fairways, disappointed with conditions.
Course very dry. Fast. Missing grass. Great lay out. Interesting course too bad not taken care of better
Terrible Course
This was not a fun experience. We had the first tee time so nobody slowed us down. The course is very hilly with lots of blind shots. Many fairways were very sloped so good shots on the fairway would wind up in the rough. Rough was very deep and it was very difficult finding balls. All four of us lost numerous balls that were in the rough but we just couldn't find them. Sand traps and bunkers were a mess and sand was hard and rocky. A lot of dogleg holes with narrow landing areas. Greens were hard and in fairly poor condition. The starter was unfriendly and in a bad mood. Maybe he didn't like being there so early. The bar was very nice with a great selection of beers. Next time, we will skip the golf and go straight to the bar.
This is not a course for golfers looking for flat lies on every shot. It is challanging and tests your shot making.
Hidden gem
I had a tee time for 8 am, pro shop got me out 1/2 hr early which was great. The grounds crew take great care of the course my hat off to that wonderful group. The rough is a tad high but nothing to lose sleep over just used a few more balls from not finding them. The design of the course is incredible. i will definitely be back soon.
So-so
Conditions were just OK. Fairways are showing weather stress. Grass was thin. Greens were just OK. Better in spring. Pace of play was slow. Group in front of us was spraying the ball all over. Ranger came by a couple times but didn't get things moving. Still a decent day with good weather.
The course has great features and can be very challenging
Definitely worth playing. You won’t be disappointed!!
Lovely day and conditions
Played at 12:48, a great pace of play. No one in front or behind. An extremely hilly course for Long Island, NY.
Thanks to GolfNow got a $30 rate. I wouldn’t pay more for this course. Greens on the back were in great shape. This course plays long, so you need to one putt.
The Greens Are NOT in good shape
Layout of the course is great, fairways are ok. The greens are not good, some spots are burn no grass on it, some fast most of the time slow.
A February Greens in July. disappointed!
Fun course
Lots of hilly areas and a hand full of tight fairways makes this short course somewhat challenging. I enjoyed it and will definitely play here again.
