Colonial Country Club
About
Colonial Country Club, located in Fort Worth on the southern banks of the Trinity River and near TCU, is one of the most historic golf clubs in Texas. The club was founded in 1936 by Marvin Leonard, who sought to have a north Texas club with smooth, bent grass greens (unheard of at the time, as many courses had either sand or Bermuda turf). The course was originally designed by Texan John Bredemus and Oklahoma architect Perry Maxwell, who formally worked with Dr. Alister Mackenzie. Holes no. 3-5 are nicknamed the “Horrible Horseshoe” and represent the strongest stretch on the course, featuring a 247-yard par-3 4th hole bookended by long and demanding par 4s. Colonial Country Club hosted the 1941 U.S. Open, won by Craig Wood and was the first time the event was staged in Texas. Despite now playing over 7,200 yards, Colonial maintains a reputation to this day as a ball-striker’s playground. Ben Hogan won the Colonial golf tournament five times. Other multiple winners of this longstanding PGA Tour event include Lee Trevino, Billy Casper, Nick Price and Ben Crenshaw.

Reviews
What a deal
First time playing this course. Great deal on Golf Now. Front 9 is very good but back 9 is exceptional.
Some beautiful holes. Fairways and greens were great. Greens weren't as slow as most area courses. Lots of water but not really in play if you hit it straight. First class operation. Has to be the best course in Ft. Myers. Pesonally better than Corkscrew, or Veranda .
Excellent course
A very nice golf course. Course was in excellent shape and is a beautiful layout. I would recommend.
Great Value
Course very forgiving and fair from every tee box. Greens were true and running probably 11, Facility very well maintained. Look forward to our next visit.
Great course
Great course & very well maintained. More expensive than I feel comfortable spending. But tried it once on a special deal. Would like see a special more often!
beautiful course
Beautiful course with fast and true greens--best around
Greens and fairways
We loved this course. Very well manicured and in great shape.
Fairways were lush and the greens were great.
I would like to play here again as I never got use to the speed of the greens.
Great facilities, including driving range, with free balls and chipping and putting greens.
Great Value!
the starter was great!
the weather was great!
it's season and it played very very long!
fairways and greens could not be in better shape....amazing for the amount of play.
very nice course
if you get a chance to play it do it ,best rates are through golfnow.com
Tight back nine
Course gets a lot of play like all in this area at this time of year. For the 40 to 50 dollar price range the round is a good deal. Anything above 60 would be overpriced
Good course
Well maintained course. Practice facilities are good. A little disappointed that driving range closes at 4pm though (over 2 hrs before darkness).
Well worth the money
Very slow play very late in the day. Great practice facilities, was a good deal.
Beautifully manicured course
5 star top notch. Greens were awesome, fairways perfect. Some water to challenge you
nice course
Fun course. Nice layout with wider fairways than others we have played here. Better grass on fairways also. But not great. Greens look nice but are very slow and bumpy. Not worth 80 dollars. Fringe grass is short and hard to chip off. Better to putt if not to far off. Would be the best of the 65 dollars courses around.
Beautiful Course
The course and facilities are very nice. My wife and I paid to play 18 holes but only got in 9 due to later tee time (4:02 p.m.) and slow play.
very good
this is very good golf course for players whit nice handy cap
Weather was a factor
Had an excellent time. Would have liked to complete 18 holes but it was pouring rain. This was the second time we played here and the first time it was very cold and windy, not the courses fault of course. We hope to return next year, several times, in sunshine, so ghat we can experience all 18 holes
Late t-time, shotgun start
My wife and I arrived for a 1:30 PM T-time. To our surprise it was a shotgun start, and we did not tee off until 2:15. We were fortunate to finish before it was dark. Colonial is a good course, but this is the first time that I have even encountered a shotgun start via Golf Now.
Greed wins out
I'd read good reviews, (other than slow play) and the price from Golfnow was excellent. I thought that if we could finish in 4 3/4 hrs, we would finish before it was too dark, even with a 1:30 tee time. When we arrived, there were people everywhere. It turns out that it was a shotgun start. Plus, we were intermingled with a member's mixed tournament. Worse, there were two groups on every tee box. After waiting on every shot, at 6:15, being dark with 3 holes to play, we quit. Selling tee times to the public, (without notice) under these conditions, by Troon Management, is an example of pure greed and a lack of customer concern.
Scenic track, in late afternoon sunlight!
Well manicured golf course in excellent condition, partner and I truly enjoyed the course.
