Improved conditions
This course is really a gorgous setting to play golf, my first ever round of golf was played here and it resulted in a passion for golf.
One of the primary problems this course faces is that is does not drain well, so after any rain it is very soggy and makes playing conditions difficult and unpleasant. The other factor is that it is a very challenging course with many water hazzards, so the less proficient golfers can expect to lose many golf balls in a round.
Having said that, the current condition of the course is significantly improved, especially the greens which were in good shape.
It is a great test of golf and if the course is dried out, it is much more pleasant to play.
I am glad I gave this course another opportunity, it is always very reasonably priced, and I do plan to play it again.
Better than expected
Course was very playable and for the rate we paid, it was a good value. Greens were solid and the putting was accurate. Fairways were good and the tee boxes variable but mostly good. This used to be one of our favorite venues due to the setup, range, food and the location. The course is fair and the tees have been moved up some, seemingly permanently per the new score cards. Scoring from the whites was a tad easier and certainly more enjoyable while hitting shorter clubs on approaches. Keep up the good work. Bunkers were damaged by hard rains. No foul there.
6.5 hour round at Magnolia plantation
Carts were 45min late. Waited at every tee box to hit on the front 9. Greens were fine.
Course Needs Work
Difficult course with several forced carries and actually 2 on one hole. Fairways and tees in rough shape due to lack of water, apparently repairs are needed but unfunded. Luckily, greens are in decent shape keeping the course in playable condition. Lovely area with nice homes and forests with mature trees everywhere. If your not straight and long in some cases, bring lots of balls. Plenty of water to challenge you.
Nice track
Using golf now we purchased a tee time at 1pm.
Arrived at noon and as the course was empty we were let out to play immediately!
This was totally unexpected as we played at Magnolia
A few weeks earlier and we waited for 20 minutes for a cart and only played nine!
The course was in good shape and has a number of holes with a high risk/reward ratio.
There are numerous opportunities to view wildlife which added to an enjoyable round.
Similar in quality to Plantations @ Leesburg Otter Creek,Golf Hammock Golf & CC, & Sandpiper G&CC.
1PM tee time w/ buddy. The course in in good shape. I don't know what the bad review was about. It is a great lay out. Has a few extremely challenging holes w/ forced carries onto the greens. There is water in play. Most holes are tree lined or tree & water lined. Tee boxes could be nice but playable. Fairways are pretty plush. Elevated greens are in good condition rolling true & fairly fast. Was speaking w/ one of the grass cutting guys & he had good things to say about the the new head grounds keeper & how he brought it back to this condition. Battery powered carts have windshields but no rain cover in back for golf bags. Will definitely come back to play it again. The Wildlife is great. I saw 8 Deer & Turkeys on 1 of the Par 3's.
Course was wet but cart paths underwater
When we played it was raining when we started. The cart paths were under water but the course was good and drivable. Lots of wild life and very interesting course.
Lots of wildlife to be seen at this fun, water filled course!
First time playing this course. It is located inside an expensive gated community (houses either close to $1 million) but there houses are not hit-able. Course was reopened August 2014 and they have shown lots of improvements from what I have heard. The overall conditions are actually pretty good. The rough is thick and does need some improving/maintenance. Tee boxes were pretty decent and the fairways were great. Greens were awesome on about 16/18 holes with the other two just showing slight loss of grass.
There is water on just about every single hole. Nothing too terrible hard if you can keep your ball in the fairway as water did either line the left of right side of holes or there were a few holes that you did have to hit over water to get to the green. If you are an average or below average golfer, bring a few extra balls and make sure you have your ball retriever!
I saw probably about 20 turkeys, 15 deer, turtles, and alligators. The deer were even out as late as 11am and they just ran around all over the course including just sitting on the green while we chipped on it.
I would play here again and I recommend playing here if you haven't had a chance. Looks like the pro shop is also in process of being renovated.
poor conditions
The course was not in the greatest shape. We payed for golf and lunch. Played golf and went in to the club house for lunch. Ordered lunch and an hour and ten minutes later we still were not served any food. So we got up and left. Will not play there again.
Improving
Have played this course off and on for 8 months. Potentially a high value course. Recent changes have improved greens and fairways. Some updates such as 150 markers help. Still needs a few more markers and other convenience items but course does not deserve some of the reviews it has based on todays conditions. The views are great what with deer and Turkeys much in sight
Coming back
Only 2nd time playing this course in last few years.
Very challenging layout. Narrow fairways and plenty of water. Bring several balls with you.
The fairways were average but the greens were much improved.
Pace of play was near perfect as completed 18 in 3.5 hours.
Glad to see course on comeback
Has Potential
Course must be under New management. Course dug up from Maintance Vehichles. Traps have not been properly raked by Maintance in some time.. No consistancy. Stated that recommend friend, only if course conditions change. Needs water
The middle
It is the middle of the fairway or say good bye ball on many holes.
Verdict is still out...
The poor conditions make it hard to recommend this course. The layout is fantastic with some very challenging holes, which is what brings me back everytime. i can tell there is some kind of effort being made here, but for whatever reason this course is ALWAYS under water. It hadn't rained for a week, yet every hole/sand trap was just mud. I'm not sure if it is the geographic location or what, but it ruins my experience here every time. Far from the top ranking course it once was.
Nice Greens To Putt On...
The Course was not busy at the time the time that I was scheduled to play. So my round went relatively quick. I was presently surprised at the condition of the Putting Greens, they were nice, nice baby. Happy to see Magnolia Planation back open. This course in my opinion is worth spending a day playing... However it still will be wet after a good rain..."Nice Putting Greens"
Just as I remember it!
Great to have this course back again! Greens were in good shape and quick!Course was waterlogged in quite a few areas. Doesn't seem to drain to well. Staff was very friendly, and price was right. This used to be one of our go to courses until it started going down hill a few years back.Hopefully it will get back to what it was! Seems to be on it's way.
Love this course and will be back soon!
Needs work
Course needs work greens are in pretty good shape rest of course wet and somewhat bare. Needs overseed. Tough course, some funky holes. Not what it used to be
Course is back on great condition
Course is in great condition. T boxes, fairways and greens are in great shape. Much improved course under new management. Fun to play and will play again soon.
