TOO much construction going on.
There is too much construction going on around this course. They should close it until the construction is completed and ready to accommodate guests. Practice range is closed because of construction so you can’t warm up and with the construction the course is playing to Par 69. I’m sure in about 18 months according to staff the construction will be completed and conditions improve.
Location, location, location
This was the first time I played at this course and it was worth the money. Located in a beautiful location. Nice scenery when looking for my ball. Some fairways and greens are a work in process, but playable. The course was challenging, fairway was narrow on some holes, and there was water located on almost every hole. Construction off hole ten and18, but it did not interfere. I really enjoyed the course and will return.
Great course in GOOD condition
The 10th fairway is currently tore up due to some construction, It is a par 5 that is now being played as a par 3. The 15th, a par 3 needs some work on the green, but still very playable.
For this time of year and the amount of play the course has seen, I think it is still one of the best in central florida.
Alaqua Country Club
Alaqua is one of those courses that could be great with a little bit of attention and care. There is some great character here that is masked by poor maintenance and general neglect on the grounds. The tee boxes were more dirt than grass and the grass you find yourself hitting from off the fairway is likely dry if not dead. The greens looked pretty decent but are incredibly slow. Easily the slowest I've experienced in a long time. The cart paths lead you on a few nice rides through beautifully dense trees but unfortunately are broken and cracked enough to take away from the scenic beauty. There is quite a bit of construction going on at the moment over by the driving range and I hope the renovation doesn't stop at the practice facilities! $25 doesn't usually get you much golf in central Florida so for the money Alaqua is at the least a decent value.
Good deal for $19.99 a round
We got off the plane and headed straight to the course. Pace of play was great because it was the end of the day. Managed to complete 18 holes in 3 hours getting in the last hole just before sunset. Challenging course for me as I have not played on grass for 3 months. Lots of bunkers on the holes; had way too many bunker to bunker shots as I had trouble getting the club under the ball. Staff was friendly. Greens were ok but not great. Doing some renovations so at least one hole was altered.
Beautiful Challenging Course. Bring many balls
Alaqua GC is surrounded by beautiful houses but it does not make you feel cluttered at all. We started our round very early morning by taking advantage of its early bird special deal. There was a construction going on in front of the club house and the part of #10 hole. Otherwise, the green and fairway conditions are great. Fairways are narrow with many water hazards. In many holes you need to go over the water on your 2nd shot. The course requires accurate tee shots. Like me, you might expect to loose many balls. We played at many courses in Orlando area such as Disney, Grand Cypress, and Mission Inn El Campeon. Alaqua is as good as they are. I highly recommend it.
Nice course for short hitters like me.
Two-some with a tee time of 2:30 PM on a Sunday afternoon. Did not expect a problem with start, but they had no carts available. Waited for 30 mins before a cart was finally available. Pro shop got us a complementary beverage from the bar and even gave us a voucher for a free round in the future.
Starter said that they should not have taken so many reservations in the morning (took 120+). This was caused by a recent Deal Caddy offer, so that situation may not arise again.
As stated by others, #10 has been shortened due to construction and the course plays the back nine first. Greens in good shape except for #6. Overall, in decent shape.
FYI, be sure to take some insect repellent. We got bug bites on our legs and the itching was quite fierce. Thank goodness for Benadryl.
Going back for another round this weekend, so it couldn't be that bad, eh? LOL
country club!!!
this course will not be open to the public for very long. they are doing some upgrades and when they are done, it will be private again..........so play it while you can!!!
Nice course, with a lot of water and challenging holes
Alaqua is a beautiful, challenging course. Most holes have water, with some holes almost surrounded by water. There is construction near the beginning and ending holes and a few greens are beat up, but otherwise in OK condition. Best part of the course are the views of gorgeous homes along the fairways!
Great setting
The course was in good condition despite the work being done on one of the holes. Maybe it was because of the morning rain but the greens were incredibly slow. Other than that, the course was beautiful and surrounded by homes that will take your breath away. I couldn't believe that we could get on a course of this quality for less than $30.
Overall course is quite interesting
This course is, in general. It is well maintained and the layout
Is challenging. The only problem is due to renovations a couple
Holes are somewhat confusing.
We would certainly return.
Well kept and attractive layout among upscale homes.
Great course providing a modest challenge in scenic setting.
great wildlife
They don't overseed the fairways, so there is NO grass on them. All the lies are like hitting off linoleom flooring. Very chanllenging layout, but now under construction so it is quite messed up. Should have left the nines reversed the way it was designed. First tee shot now is the most demanding on the whole course. Bad way to start a round.
Good value
Tough course. Beautiful layout. Generally in very good condition. Greens were slow. Last 2 holes were temporary. We teed off at 2PM finished about 5PM. Surprised that the pro shop was closed after we finished 9th hole. We played Sunday afternoon after the rain had quit. Had a few sprinkles during play.
I wish I had played better!
Hundreds of bug bites
Not that it is the fault of the course but there were thousands of biting bugs in every calm spot. We all wound up with red welts on every exposed surface. It was hard to concentrate on the golf. The course was OK but the greens were not the best. They were being repaired so it should get better. There is plenty of water to catch wayward shots. It is a beautiful area so I would play again. Just not until the bugs go away.
great layout great price
what a find until recently this was a private course ,you should see some of the mansions around it some stunning holes lots of water in pretty good condition this must be the best$30 ever
Noseeums bad here........
Played this course and the biting gnats and noseeums got very bad on 9 and stayed that way the entire back. By the time I got off the course I looked like had a horrible body rash. The only good thing was they did not itch or welt up. They went away after 24 hours but very annoying when trying to play. I think this is due to all the water on this course; swamp, holding ponds, lakes - water everywhere. I don't plan on playing this course ever again.
This is a course with a scenic but challenging layout.
Although it is a shorter course distance wise, it definately makes up for it with how challenging it is. Overall it was a pleasant course to play at a good price. I would love to play it again soon
Great wildlife.
Found course in average shape. Greens on the slow side, back tee box a little worn out. The course is showing signs of improvement.
Once prestigious course now suffers.
Once prestigious course now suffers. Once private now allows public place. The course has a very nice, challenging layout. My expectations were high. The conditions were good, not great. The staff was not friendly at all. I see why this once private exclusive course is now open to the public. They are begging for play. The staff made us feel unwelcome since we were not members.
