Very, Very Challenging Hole Photo submitted by fryersroost on 05/08/2013
Great course, greater employees
The course was great, fairways were perfect, aside from the ones being repaired. Desk guy was super nice and helpful.
Decent course. But…
Been wanting to try this course out for awhile now - finally decided to today. I wasn’t really expecting to be “wow”d by any means; but was hoping for an enjoyable round and experience.
Course was in decent condition for this time of year, layout was fairly unique, and some fun holes that will challenge your game.
However, what ruined my experience was the fact that the staff was watering the course almost my entire round (started at 10:30 and they were on until about 12:30). The guy in the pro shop did tell me about this when I checked in and asked, but I already paid and made the drive out there, so I figured I’d give it a shot. Unfortunately, it was basically like playing immediately after heavy rain. Most greens had huge puddles and running water on them, so there wasn’t really any point in putting (sprinklers on the greens too so you had to avoid those if you wanted to putt).
Just didn’t really make sense to me - why they’d be doing this during prime hours (not to mention it was going to be some rain later in the day anyway).
Old Brickyard
Course was in great shape. Fun but difficult course.
great day to play
tough as always, but good weather allowed us to hit some great shots!
Get what you pay for
To me it’s a fun course to play. It has it’s issues just like most courses. I’ve come to not expect a lot when I play here. Some holes the layout just doesn’t work, some holes just can’t be improved & some make you say “wow.” Unfortunately it’s just the lay of the locked land.
Not worth the drive
I’ve played many courses in DFW and this lands itself in the bottom 3. The reviews on this course must be automated or written by their workers with fake account because it should have no more than 2 stars on every review. Tee boxes aren’t level and have of them are missing grass. The fairways actually aren’t bad. The greens are very difficult to read, small, very hilly and missing some grass as well. This course has very many blind shots or around corners or water so bring very many golf balls. You’ll go up and down hills and the pin placements were not favorable at all. Overall the course doesn’t play very consistent you may have a nice tee box one hole and the next is patchy grass. You’ll likely be hitting into other holes on some holes and most golfers out here are beginners, which isn’t a bad thing but shows that the course isn’t very well taken care of due to lack of care and people just hacking into the ground. There are courses to play with friend and care less and there are courses to enjoy the site and etiquette of golf. This is not the latter, but the former. I will not be playing this course ever again even though the reviews may say 5 stars for the next 10 years. I cannot see it getting any better because of the layout. Some serious renovations would need to occur. If you do decide to play, good luck
A few bare spots on some fairways and greens but nothing crazy. A few blind tee shots, well placed water hazards provide a great challenge. 10th hole is amazing!
I was there playing that day also, mainly because all the other area courses were closed to cover there greens. The reason they were watering so heavy on the course was the coming cold front that was going to hit that evening and drop temp to around 20 degrees for a couple of days. Standard operation procedure for the courses with bermuda grass is you flood the course to keep the greens from getting winter kill and everybody is gun shy after the ice storm last year with all the damaged courses in Texas still recovering from that. I will say this about the Brickyard, they also gave everybody in my 3 some full rainchecks to comeback another day because of what they were doing to the greens to protect them from the pending cold weather. That one move right there won me over, I will definitely be back, plus they are about the only course left in the metroplex that is not managed by a management company and I just don't care for them or how they treat customers and there employees.
