Great layout
I play this course often as it is a real value. A few of the greens are below standard but the overall layout is challenging with very few boring holes. You use every club in the bag and if the wind is up the back nine can be extremely challenging. The staff (Joe) is super friendly but there is no real clubhouse or real food on the premises so it's all about golf. As a twosome we have often played in 3 hours on weekend mornings (early).
Greens are back
After a couple of rough years the greens here are in pretty good shape (only a couple holes w/ issues). Winter, so all grass is dormant; only a pop-up weed or two. Good enough for a quick weekday round, as is close to Fayetteville and Peachtree City.
Course is Challenging
I have played this course several times. It's challenging and enjoyable to play. The course layout has great par 4's & 5's.
This course has so much potential.
This course has so much potential. There are a number of fairways that have drainage issues and the ground stays wet almost year round, for example 10, 11, and 14. Management should rope these areas off and force people to take a free drop and not drive over it an muddy up the fairway until they figure the drainage problem out. Seriously...how much is rope and some stakes?? The course is in pristine condition maybe two months out of the year, the rest of the year it needs help. Additionally, there are a couple of dead trees hanging over the cart path that is a lawsuit waiting to happen. Again....how much is a chain saw and some elbow grease??
tough layout
Getting better, they let it go about a year ago, it is making a comeback. Slow play though, most golfers there have no concept of letting faster groups through.
Very nice layout
This course has very nice layout, greens were not in good shape because of many leaves on course bring extra balls. for the price I paid on golf now it was worth it, would not be happy to pay full price here.
Difficult Course in need of some love
The course has a good layout and has potential, but some of the greens are in really bad shape. Also, the course is really difficult. To be fair I was playing from the tips in a strong wind but the course is just cruel. Holes are long, narrow, with zero forgiveness for missing any fairway. If you miss a fairway just hope it has red stakes so you can drop rather than having to play of the tee again because you won't find your first.
give it a thumbs up
overall, thumbs up, they have seemed to shorten the course since it first opened at least that is the way i see it. some greens needed attention and i lost a lot of balls in the fairway due to leaves and a bit longer than i like but for the price i paid and having a golfing day with my dad it was good. I recomend the course.
Very nice course and well maintained.
This course was enjoyable to play. The only drawback is that after the 9th hole you are not at the clubhouse. There were no signs to lead you to the clubhouse if you like to take a break before the back nine. Otherwise, you play straight through which is what we did. I will definitely go back and play there soon.
The layout is fine; driving rage is substandard. Greens not real good.
Had played this course several years ago and found it to be one of the better courses in S. Atlanta area. The course is no longer a top quality course, however for the price I paid it was okay. I play 100-150 rounds a year and have played over a 100 courses in Georgia. This course I'm sure has suffered from 2 new coueses opening in the area and also has to compete with the Canongat courses. It can compete if more money put into it to fine tune it. Good luck to them , could again be a fine course.
Good deal
Great location for us in the Newnan/Sharpsburg area working in Atlanta. Course is usually well maintained, although a couple of the greens could be better. You can always find a good deal, and it's hardly ever crowded.
I consider this a challenging course. This is not a "wide-open" course. It has some long par 3s. It is a pretty course, esp back 9. Driving range, putting green.
Friendly Staff
The course needs some TLC, a little rough, not well manicured but very playable. No one was on the course but us which made it great fun not to be hurried. There are houses surrounding the course on most holes but that was not a deterrant for us. Not sure we'll play it again but look for another in the area better cared for. And there was nothing to eat but snacks ~ no sandwiches or hot foods.
The course is one of the best layouts in the Atlanta area, extremely challenging from the Championship tees, but fair..
One of the best layouts in the Atlanta area. The fairways took years , but have finally grown in. The course needs some money put into it to be outstanding. The greens have not quite recovered, or I would say maybe 4 greens need to be re-sanded and sodded. When the course was thriving, i did not see as much wild grass growing around the edges of the fairways, it was all bermuda. Its still one of the toughest layouts from the championship tees.it calls for all the shots and all your clubs. I hope some one purchases the course put just a little money into it and do what they have done with Coweta Country Club which is another tough layout that was in this same situation years ago,but now is in pristine condition. Durham is a much more fun course to play with a nice amount of risk reward or play safe decisions. I love playing it, just for the different shots it requires you to hit or pay the price.I would give it an excellent if they can get the greens back in shape and at the speeds they were before the bank took over.
Hopeful...
Let me start by saying that I used to love this course prior to its financial troubles and am definitely pulling for it to make a comeback. The location is great. The course is challenging. And the staff have always been friendly.
Most of the course was fine, however, the greens are still in pretty bad shape. There are lots of sandy spots on each hole, and as a result, they don't roll true. Lots of hops and jumps. I'm sure they're working on it, but I don't think the course is worth a $40 round yet because of the greens.
I know improving the greens takes money and time, but the course wasn't very crowded on a Saturday. If it were me, I'd drop the greens fee down to $30 to get the course busy again which will bring in more $$$. Then when the greens are back up to par, raise the fees back up to $45 or so. The regular golfers will certainly understand this concept, and you'll have a large contingent of people to get the word out when conditions improve.
I just don't think I can return at $40 until I hear that conditions improve.
Best of luck,
Michael
Excellent GolfNow value
With the exception of 3 very poor greens on the front side, Durham Lakes is very challenging and thoroughly entertaining 18 holes! Once the green issue is addressed, I will be heading back for another chance to bring this course down!!
Slider would not work.
Great track. Makes you use every club in your bag. Not a grip and rip it type wide open course.
Lots of mounds, doglegs on front side. Similar on back nine but with water on 5 holes and 2 marsh areas to contend with.
The course survived the summer heat fairly well like other courses in GA.
Nice challenge at a good price
This is a nice course that has enough challenge from the back tees to give low handicappers a test, but is more forgiving from forward tees to accomodate the mid to high handicaps.
The course was well maintained. Range balls need to be replaced as most are very poor. Greens had alot of ball marks, but that is not unusual for courses here in August. The greens did putt well dispite the ball marks.
Overall, very please with the course as a whole and will definitely play there again.
Outstanding Layout - Very Good Mix of Holes
An excellent layout & higher than average level of difficulty. Have played this course at least a dozen times over the past 3-4 years, and generally enjoyed it very much until the course conditioning fell off a couple of years ago. This last visits showed some improvements and heading back in the right direction. My main complaint is overgrowth of high weeds in some of the marsh-style hazard areas (such as the carry off the tee on the previously gorgeous 11th hole) where the growth is so high than the bridge for the cart path and even part of the landing area cannot be seen from the tee. When maintained well, I believe this is a must-play layout on the south side and worth the drive as well as having economical greens fees for this quality of course. However, some of the conditioning issues (not necessarily the greens & fairways) make me a little hesitant to play the course often until I am assured that this track is back at the level of the one I came to love playing frequently in the past.
Good layout
Durham Lakes is a good and challenging layout with no 2 holes the same. It is in decent shape for a young course.
Very good layout, some holes are very challenging. A good mix of challenge and forgiveness - fun for all levels of players. In pretty good shape.
Overall good course. Has had some difficulties staying in good shape but it is usually a good value. The layout is very good with some very challenging holes and it offers fun for all levels of players. The greens struggle a bit in the summer as they are bent grass. They would do well to change over to Champions Bermuda, like all the other good courses have. Fun course, good value, would recommend this to anyone.
