Skybrook Golf Club

About
Located at the heart of Mecklenburg County, Skybrook Golf Club is considered one of the best golf courses in the Charlotte area. The layout tumbles across a variety of elevation changes that range from subtle to dramatic. The championship tees on this lengthy golf course stretch to 7,000 yards but with five sets of tees, players of any skill level can play to their abilities. The terrain accounts for most of the golf course's difficulty but the lofty elevations also provide stunning views. The natural contours helped to determine the strategic placement of the bunkers. You won't find too much water on the golf course save for a large lake that comes into play on the final holes. Skybrook Golf Club test your accuracy and your distance, but the generous landing areas keep it player friendly enough for beginners.

Great course
One of charlotte top semi public golf courses in the Charlotte NC area. Great practice facility all grass and chipping putting areas top quality, practice green like what you will putt on the course. Well stocked merchandise in pro shop. Extremely courteous staff nice restaurant with diverse menu. The course is mountainous and lots of challenging holes. Par threes play one extra club try to stay out of the bunkers very deep high lips. This is the type of course you don’t get tired of playing. My hats of to maintenance extremely well kept.
Slow Play
If you enjoy 5+ hour rounds in good conditions SLOWBROOK is your course. I am a member and have never played a round under 5 hours. This place has improved conditions I applaud the Greens Crew for their hard work to deliver a great product. There is no reason that this course should take 5+ hours to play most of the time.
Great condition, not challenging
Tees and greens were exceptional. Fairways in great shape too. My criticism, if any, there is no rough. The fairway is cut to 1/2 inch and the rough is 3/4. Other than the slight change in color I wouldn’t have known the difference. Let it grow folks. Make fairways hit more of a premium. I suppose it speeds up play but there are really no challenges out there other than a few deep bunkers and some water on a couple holes.
Greens need another year
Overall layout is a lot of fun and fairways are really well kept: greens are relatively new and need another year before they are rolling true.
New and improved skybrook
I am a past member and still love playing here. It went thru some rough ownerships but whoever's just takin it over has hit a home run. Greens replaced and new sod in places. Rough has been raised up a little and looks like fairways tightened. It is once again a premier stop in my book for a semi private. I am even thinking about joining again. Do yourself a favor. GO !
Welcome back to Skybrook!
Talk about peaks and valleys! Skybrook was a top course when i played it for the first time ~14 years ago, Then it went into steep decline. Now, with the new greens and other upgrades? Its a top public venue once again. I didn't spend anytime in the clubhouse, aside from the pro shop, but I head that's great also. The guy in the pro shop told me Birkdale is going to go thru a similar transformation and I can;t wait since I live 4 miles from there.
Wow!! What a change
I played this course several times over the past years and each time I was extremely disappointed in the overall condition of the course. Then the management of the course decided it was time to perform miracles and they certainly have!!! The course is now in fantastic shape with new greens that are rolling fast and true. The bunkers have all been redone and now you have good sand in them should you be unfortunate enough to end up in one of them. There are a few greens that have minor rough spots that have not yet come completely in with the rebuild but you can certainly expect that the management will fix that in due process. If I was to give any negative comment it would be that the rough is way to high for the once a week golfer. It was at a level that I believe that would give a PGA professional grief should they get in there.. I lost 2 balls due to the fact that I could not locate them in the rough. It was such a pleasure to play on this challenging and pretty course. Will absolutely be back!!!
Course Updated
Course has been closed for 3 months due to new greens and club house updates. What a difference this had made to the course. Greens are wonderful, tee boxes and fairways are in excellent shape. The staff at Skybrook has done an excellent job in all aspects. Will definitely be back.
Skybrook is in Good Shape
I golf Skybrook about twice a year and this was the best outing I have had there yet. The course was in the best shape that I have seen it and the course was not crowded (no pace of play issues, we finished in 3.4 hours).
There are a few rough spots in fairways (e.g., 6th hole) and on greens (e.g., 17th hole), but overall I thought the course was the best I have seen in years.
And at $32 (about $1.75 per hole), it was a fantastic value. Overall, a good outing and I look forward to getting back out to Skybrook again soon.
Solid course at a great price
I was pleased with the round at Skybrook this afternoon. The course was in solid shape, with fairways and greens coming in nicely, so all-in-all I was happy. There are a few rough/bare patches around in and around the fairways but there were maintenance workers addressing some of the worst areas, which I was happy to see. Would certainly play Skybrook again in the coming weeks.
Washed out
Rained 4 inches the morning before a 12 pm tee time and was still raining at scheduled tee time. That is the chance you take with golf now pre pay.
Very Good Course
This and several other courses in the area experienced difficulties in the last few years. Skybrook seems to have came thru it with flying colors. The area has experience 100 times the normal rain fall in the past months. Yes the course is waterlogged but still remains to be exceptional condition. I look forward to playing again this summer.
Good course
Really packed for a weekday, but good course. Few patchy spots on a couple greens but nothing major. Fantastic layout.
Unplayable Conditons - Unapologetic staff - Way Overpriced
Firstly the course is almost double what other green fees are in the area and I’m first in line if it’s worth it, but honestly the conditions were atrocious. The course really should have been closed. After discussing this with the staff they weren’t bothered at all. There was nowhere to clean our mud covered shoes and the carts are in bad condition. The course layout is good, but the greens are unfortunately the worst I have played in a while. Some foreign grass has started to grow on the surfaces which causes an uneven, patchy grass.
Why do members and non members disrespect the course
After a couple of weekends of rain and snow , why can’t people respect Cart path only ? Our course is very wet right now and yet people refuse to listen to cart path only and dig up fairways with deep tire tracks for the entire 18 hole. This person made sure he dug up the fairway as he could have driven in the dry area but I guess they felt it necessary to dig up the fairway. When confronted with their behavior., they called said its a goat track anyway. Course is far from that.
Like it so much I bought a home here
Having previously been a full member of this course in its heyday (2000-2007) I can attest to the quality of the layout. The course ran into challenges due to a owner who was re-routing profits from this course to cover losses at his 7 other courses at the time.
In 2017 it was taken over by a new management company who has sunk $'s into the grounds and also hired the right people to run it CORRECTLY. The course improvements in 2018 have brought this course back to it's premiere status and I have had the pleasure of playing it about once a month and each time been more and more impressed with the grounds crews efforts. As others have stated, the bunkers have "new" sand and are being raked properly.

2018 Nov at Skybrook
This is one of my favorite courses and the staff has worked hard to bring it back into good condition. Fairways were in really good shape, bunkers were the best I have seen in a long time and the greens were rolling nice and smooth.
The best 5+ hour gold course in the area. If you love long waits on every hole SLOWBROOK is your dream experience. I have never had a round under 5 hours for a long time. The greens crew deliver a quality course that deserves faster and enjoyable play!
