Great Course for a Good Price
If this course were closer to home, we'd play it lots. It is always in great shape and is a fun layout. Greens are in excellent shape and pretty quick. Stay in the middle and you'll avoid some problems in the rough and trees. Well worth the drive and the greens fee!
Beautiful course
Challenging course, great layout. Very well taken care of. Excellent greens but fast. You really want to try and stick your shots. Some fairways are tight and you can get into trouble easily. Had a great experience, will definitely be back.
The Average Golfer
The greens were fast, fairways cut to a nice height and the rough was actually playable the only thing is that some no all fairway trees and bushes should be cut a bit higher around the base. The club house staff is friendly and polite.
nice course, good round
Played at 10:30 on a Friday in a 3 some and never needed to wait . Course was in good shape considering how dry it was for several weeks prior. Not a long course but very playable and interesting enough for handicaps over 10 .
Wonderful round of golf.
My son & I had a great day on your golf course yesterday. The course was in great shape and my only negative, which was the reason for my “good” rating for course layout relates to changes which have been made to the course. The layout is great, but signage could be improved with respect to the 10th hole. Having played your course many times in the past, I was expecting the 10th hole to be directly across the parking lot from the 9th. The layout however has changed and hole 10 was difficult to locate. We assisted a foursome who had a similar experience, so it was not just us.
The staff were great in providing us with a cart equipped with a GPS and the young lady in the dining are as always was a treat. She is upbeat, helpful and certainly appears to enjoy her job. Along with that great service came amazing pizza. It is definitely NOT overrated.
A wonderful day at Mount Elgin and we will certainly be back.
Good Course, Nice Day
Haven't played here for years! Couldn't even remember most holes. And, to make it harder, they've changed the layout of the holes. LOL Very well kept. New electric carts..some with GPS. A fun course that you could play well once you've played it and know where the trouble is. Price is very good! We'll be back!
Very nice round of golf
I have played this course before and although I never score well, I have always enjoyed the layout. It would play much easier if I stayed out of the thick rough. The course was in excellent shape and because it was a late afternoon round, the pace of play was great.
One huge improvement since my last round at this course, is the food service. Although it was slow, the food was worth the wait. I enjoyed fish & chips and my son had what he said was a great pizza.
Also the staff were very friendly.
We will return soon I hope.
A Nice Saturday Afternoon
Our foursome decided the day before to play a round at this course. It was our first visit here this year but had played in prior years. The weather was perfect for our round. The holes on the course feature a lot of varied layouts and large greens, which wintered very well. Water comes into play on several holes. We enjoyed the challenge offered by the course. If you play for the first time, pay attention to the hole signs as we messed up a couple of times as the order of holes has been changed a bit for this season. However, this is a great course and we recommend it.
Hot slow round at Mr., Elgin
It was very warm today! Started at 11:00 and finished at 4:00 pm.
Unfortunately got in behind Senior tournament so had to wait at each hole.
Some of the fairways should be cut shorter or maybe just timing.
Other than that - enjoyed the new course layout.
Mount Elgin golf course
Course is good condition, lots of blind shots, waiting for five some playing in front of us.
Course was in great shape, one of the best courses I've ever played can't wait to play again and even thinking about becoming a member there since I enjoyed it so much
Country gem
My husband and I try and play this course each season. The owners are dlilgent with their attention to course details. The greens are true and medium fast. A true test for your putting skills.
All in all, the golf and the after golf food and drink are very good.
Where is My Ball?
The course is very pretty and somewhat challenging, but it was made annoying by the long grass. We spent a great deal of time looking for our ball in the long grass. Need a Marshall to keep the pace moving at a better pace. Staff very friendly and helpful.
Great Course and Course Conditions
Lots of long par 4’s and 5’s. trees and hills that make it challenging, very exciting plays where you are forced to think about Ball placement. First time I played this course and I would most likely play it again. No portable-potty on the course at least I didn’t see any. I guess lots of bush for that lol. The course Ranger was very friendly.
First Outing at Mount Elgin
This course is beautiful! Lots of elevation change, mature and younger trees. Though the layout is tight you have a sense of separation on nearly every hole
Greens are Donald Ross style domed greens which require careful approaches typically below the pin. Very hard to get close to most pins and you need to read the slopes and undulations closely but putts ran very true. Greens in very good shape apart from ball marks. Seems most golfers don't know or care about repairing ball marks!
Many holes are tree lined on both sides and a couple require a very well placed drive to stay out of the woods. However the wooded areas are mostly clean of undergrowth and trees are pruned at lower portions to allow some chance to put a low runner back into play
Several holes have blind tees shots and the 8th is very difficult to judge on the tee and requires a blind second shot as well. I hit into a group here by mistake. Again , apologies! An all clear bell may be warranted here
The 16th is a very tight dogleg par 5 with a very narrow approach with woods left and drop off on right. Certainly a doubtful two shot par 5. (I made par with a miracle blind chip out of the woods but felt this was the only unreasonable hole layout)
Not terribly long but layout and the domed greens require good shots
Not a fan of par 3 closing holes which both 9 & 18 are however neither are easy pars
Very scenic and in very good condition
Staff was very cordial; we booked via Golfnow and Starter got us out early but by 3rd hole we caught up to 2 foursomes ahead of us and spent 5-10 minutes at every tee for the duration of he round
Twice we let them clear the hole before teeing off only to find them on the next tee. Obviously not familiar with the concept of ready golf, carts back and forth rather than drop one player and go to the next ball. Also left carts in areas where we could not see them, which was cause for me to hit near them
On the back 9 a foursome cut in behind us who were more intent on the tailgate party with loud music in cart, and loud whoops on every shot. My wife and I don't have rabbit ears but found them very unsettling. My guess is they shouldn't have been operating any motorized vehicle!
Will certainly go back and worth a get visit for the view and layout but likely not in prime time. I'm not a fan of marshals looking over every hole but a drive by to see if there is a logjam usually helps and can educate players on ready golf if they don't seem to know the concept
