Great fall day for golf! Photo submitted by jonefraser on 10/20/2012
Great experience
First time playing this course in 20 years. The course was in great shape & can't wait to play it again. Steve
Challenging target golf
This is definitely a challenging course if you have difficulty hitting the ball where you want it to go. The narrow fairways, unseen gullies, and sloping fairways make this a true test of golf. It is a course that would take most players at least a few rounds to figure out exactly what to do (more to then actually do it). Will have to return.
Thank you for your review Michael as we really appreciate your feedback. We are glad that you find our course to be challenging and fun. From the narrow fairways to the unseen gullies, Pheasant Run Golf Club is truly a test of skill and patience.. Come back and play with us again soon!
Great condition
Great track wish it was a bit longer but overall quite challenging!
Thanks for your comments, Moe. I do occasionally hear that our course could be longer...usually that opinion is changed after the 18th hole is played. The premium play here is positioning and avoiding those pesky trees! It's really a course that rewards accuracy- length?- not so much
We are happy you found the course challenging! Thank you for your review of Pheasant Run Golf Club and we hope you come back again soon to try another 9 holes out of the 27 that we offer here!
NEEDS GAO rating!
I played Highlands and Southern Uplands and both are good (par 37 and 35, respectively). The rating/slope from the whites is 69.5/134, which I found to be rather generous (it is challenging but there are no 200 yard carries over valleys/fescue which you often see associated with tough courses). When I went to enter my score (85 - I have a 13.7 index) into the Golf Association of Ontario web site, it indicated that this course does not have an 'official' GAO slope or rating and is ineligible to be entered. That was frustrating if you are someone who tracks your handicap. BTW I would put the course (whites) at 69.5/128 if I were assessing it.
Thank you Sammy for your feedback and review of Pheasant Run Golf Club. We appreciate you taking the time to give us some helpful tips on ways of improving our golf course. We hope to see you again and will look into the GOA as yet another way Pheasant Run can help to give you a more enjoyable golfing experience. Come back and see us again soon!
Hello Sammydaddy,
Thanks for your comments and, yes, we do need a GAO rating. Unfortunately, the fees for GAO membership - $2090 last year - just can't be justified.Multiply that times 35 years of business and you can see that we've got a heavy investment there.
I hope that the association finds some way to include public courses and public players in a way that makes sense for everybody.
Course Not Rated
I went to this course to try something different from my usual courses. The course itself is quite challenging and the conditions were satisfactory for the cost of the round. However I was surprised when I completed my round to find the course is not a member of the Golf Association of Ontario and thus does not have a valid course and slope rating. As a golfer who plays many competitive rounds as well as recreational and likes to keep an accurate handicap. I was left feeling the round was somewhat of a waste of time not being able to post it towards my handicap.
Thanks for your feedback, Robin. We took a very considered decision this year and dropped our GAO membership after 35 years. Our decision was based on the small number of our players that made use of the handicap system. The high cost of membership (over$2000) couldn't be justified by the very small number of players for whom it matters.
Well maintained and challenging enough
Three 9-holes, well-maintained, a good mix of bunkers, water, narrow fairways, elevation.. Great deal especially on Hot Deals!
I suppose that how good the 'mix of bunkers and water' is depends on how often you're in them! Thanks for the review!
Enjoyable
Played on an early Monday tee-time. Didn't know the driving range was closed until noon on Mondays so no warm up. Not busy so played at our own pace. Staff very helpful and friendly.
All the way from Arizona! Thanks for making a stop at our place while in the area and thanks for the 4 star rating!
Looking for good Value!
Overrated course, too expensive, too far to drive!
$39.00 special is if you tee off at night...omg amazing!
We have plenty of even lower priced tee times at various spots throughout the day. Keep tuned in for great deals and thanks for the 4 star rating!
Pheasant run
Course was in absolutely awful condition. Fairways hadnt been cut in days. Was absolutely astonished that the regular rate is around 100$. I paid 65 and felt i was ripped off.
Hello Luke - I was astonished to read your review, especially as I've been very proud of course conditions this year. I'd like to dig deeper into the nature of your disappointment and hope you call me to discuss this further. Please reach me at (905) 960-3917.
Pheasant run golf
Great course, the staff was excellent, looked after us right away, overall everything was great. Would play here again.
Hello Bill,
Thanks for your comments. We're doing some aerification this week, but have all green fees priced at $35 until Friday August 8th! It is such a bargain, I hope you get out again soon!
Thanks for taking the time to comment. Your reviews really help us focus on what matters
Pleasant course
Three nines to choose from to make it an 18. Nice course, never too busy it seems. Pace of play is great. Mind you, every time I play this course I tee off by 8 am. Fastest finish through 18 with a buddy here was about 2.5 hours. I like this course a lot. Still though don't think its an $85-$90 golf course. Over priced.
Nice
Nice course. Fairways can be tight at times. Looks great
Thank you for taking the time to review our golf course. We are glad that you had a great time at Pheasant Run. Come out and see us again soon!
Wonderful golf Experience
The golf is great but it's the scenery that steals the show. The varied elevations and vistas make the round truly enjoyable. The fairways are fairly narrow and lined with mature forest, if your drives are not straight you are going to find this course challenging.
It's hard not to be distracted by the scenery here, but thanks for noticing that the course is a treat, too!
staff's attitude and behavior not polite at all
said good morning to the staff to checkin but no answer. how impolite even in the morning???? Overal staff in the casher and in the gate not polite at all. This needs to be trained and fixed as their poor attitude and bahavior caused me to damage how I play golf for the day.
I'm sorry about your experience. We will be reviewing your reception with the staff on duty to make sure that this doesn't happen again.
Our focus has always been to create an experience of 'excitement, warmth, and fun!'
A day on the run
Second time playing pheasants run , first was 10 years ago so my recollection of the course was a little foggy. Upon arrival at the course I was greeted by a an array of tall fully matured pine trees surrounding the edges of the fairway of the 18th hole. It was the same when we teed up on the 1st hole of the highlands. If you're like me and love playing a course that's been carved out of the wilderness this is the course for you. The greens are small and appear to be average speed without heavy undulations but tht isn't the case. There deceptively fast with subtle breaks that take a precise and trained eye to identify. My biggest praise for the course was the pace of play perhaps cause of the location or the time of day we literally had the whole course to ourselves with no one ahead or behind us. For me this course is both challenging and rewarding with narrow and undulated fairways so every approach shot has your ball placed above or below your feet. All in all I love this course and can't wait to play it again.
Thanks for taking the time to write such a generous review! There have been many changes in the course since you first played 10 years ago- many to improve playability and several to improve pace of play. Tee times spaced 10 minutes apart help, time-of-day can also make a difference. You can usually get the best pace of play if you tee off late morning or early afternoon. Come on back soon!
Fun time, good course
First time at Pheasant Run and we enjoyed it. Staff were friendly and helpful. Some beautiful views. Some par 5 holes were a little short. Greens were not as good as would have been expected but probably in good shape given the harsh winter. Would golf it again but look for a cheaper rate.
Doug- Thanks for posting. I'm very pleased that you were so well received by our staff. They really help us serve up our goal of 'excitement, warmth and fun'!
Beautiful forested landscape
Played 18 on Highlands to Midlands. Found the course to have its challenges with some narrow passages on some holes with also some difficult elevations. The greens were pretty standard and not incredible tough and I liked the speed the ball moved on them. The forested views gave me a British Columbia feel with large tree lines and great landscape in the background. I would definitely go back as I found it to have its challenges in places and great spread layout.
Great to hear comments from a 'first time' visitor. I've been really pleased with the way the greens are rolling this year - nothing crazy fast, but consistent and smooth - helps keep those three puts to a minimum!
Good but not yet the best
I got a deal from Golfnow and teed off early this morning. Played Midlands then Uplands. The course is quite challenging, generally all uneven lies, and in good condition. Only that they are working on the bunkers, I guess due to the rain, and the greens and fairways are a bit sandy. Green still putts true. Generally, great course. Worth playing again.
Hey Gary, Thanks for the review. I've been very pleased with the improvements to course conditioning over the past few years and hope that when you return, you'll be able to report us 'not only good, maybe the best'
Challenging and picturesue course
Played Highlands/Midlands 9's. First time back in over 30 years when was only 18 holes. Course has certainly matured. Staff/starter very friendly and helpful, although got moved from one 9 to another just before teeing off as it was less busy. Was to our advantage though. Very good practice area for warm up with balls provided. Played Highlands first. Challenging/tight opening hole par 5, uphill shot to green. Needed extra club at least to large green. Sprinklers marked with yardages to middle of greens. Flags not indicate front, centre back but there were crystals on the flags to help the rangefinder. Many picturesque scenic, downhill tee shots, uphill greens. Some blind shot off tees or onto greens which I do not like, especially if do not know the course. Midlands 9 was a bit flatter overall. Challenging par 5's, tight, scenic. 9th hole, our 18th, very tight dogleg left, with water all along left side of dogleg, steep uphill to green after strategic layup.
Would definitely play again. Great GolfNow value.
Great course minus the bunkers
First of all the course is great. 27 holes, some of which can be pretty challenging. Definitely better than your average course. Pace of play for me playing as a solo golfer in a cart was unbelievable. Finished 18 holes in 2 hours, and played through 2 3somes that would have held me up. Course is generally well maintained, though some bunkers were full of water and others had rocks in them. I'm not risking dinging up my $170 vokey wedge, so I dropped with no penalty beside the bunker. I played the course for $29.99 on golfnow which was worth every penny. You may be slightly disappointed if you spend $100 on their regular weekend rate though. For $100+ I'm expecting playable bunkers.
Overall review 4/5 stars
Thanks for taking the time for a review, Mr. Emery. I am pleased that you found us to offer such great value. I hope you have an opportunity to revisit us after we have had the chance to restore our bunkers. The many severe rainstorms we've experienced over the last 10 days have made it near impossible to keep them in the perfect condition you expect. I'm sure that on your next visit you will find them much better.
Thank you Steve for your feedback and coming back and golfing with us again. We love to hear that you enjoyed your experience with us and we hope you continue to come back and visit us again soon!
