Lakeside Golf Club
About
Named after the bordering lake that the course overlooks, Lakeside Golf Club takes full advantage of the natural landscape of rolling hills and live oaks. Water comes into play on nearly every hole on the course. Streams and dry creek beds dot the course, creating challenges on several holes. The golf course also features undulating greens and narrow landing areas. Designed to provide a formidable test for any golfer, Lakeside Golf Club demands accuracy in addition to careful strategy. One of the most notable difficult holes on the golf course is the par-5 12th, which requires an approach shot over water to a well bunkered green.

Don't waste your time!
This is probably one of the worst golf courses that I've ever played. I drove over 60 miles to give it a play...this was not worth the drive. The course was hard pan, dry, and not maintained.
This was a wasted day for playing golf.....I'm thankful that the weather was awesome
Below par.
Regardless of season, you can tell the level of maintenance is below par. Appears as a course that was probably pretty nice at one time, but recently has been neglected.
Always a Challenging Pleasure!
Have actually decided to make this the "home course." At least I will look for a reservation there before looking elsewhere.
A good challenge to any golfer and a source of humility when it comes to putting. Although normally only needing 28 to 32 putts per round elsewhere, I have only managed to get them down to less than 40 on one occasion.
good fun for the money . its winter the deer were out in full swing. It was a good time . would recomned this course to anyone that wants to play .
course was nice . staff was very friendly its winter the course was a little brown but the deer were a god obsticle
lasttime
lots of hard ground, divots are impossible, cart paths terrible. Poor shape, not much fun.
Needs a lot of work
Anybody who rated the course conditions as better than poor either has an agenda to hide, or plays regularly on Mars. This course simply is the worst conditioned pasture in the region, hands down. Fairways are actually lumpy from fractured earth, and not mown properly. The greens are in worse shape than the fairways. Dry grass, much hardpan, weeds weeds weeds. They have obviously stopped any routine/professional maintenance for some time now. Not a good value at any price. My advice? Don't waste your time until they decide to revive this course.
Course conditions...HORRIBLE
I am a beginner golfer and often look for "deals" on GolfNow to develop my game at a less expensive rate. I booked 18 holes, but left after the first nine because of the horrible conditions of the course. Extremely dry fairways and greens. I quickly learned that "you get what you pay for"...not sure if the condition of the course is related to the time of year.
Course needs attention
Nice setting. Everyone was cordial. The co ruse could use some attention. With good weather and care it would be a great tract.
Grade F
Course in very poor shape fairway either rock or crab grass greens have blith golf cart was gas no brakes poor shape as well overall grade an F
For the price it was Ok
OK for the price. Course needed some major up keep. The fairways needed mowing. Without the crab grass they would not have a fairway.
Great course for the money!!
This course is a bargain for the money. Very scenic and offers the ability to play at your own pace. The cart paths and greens could use some attention but this was overall a pleasant experience.
Greens are very nice.
Overall a good day. Weather was awesome. Only issue we had was some slow players ahead of us with beginners. Course needs a Marshall. Otherwise a nice course and good value. I would recommend to other golfers.
Great Potential with Natural Beauty
The course is a nice layout, great surrounding scenery, and plentiful wildlife in picturesque setting. The grass is a mixture of bermuda and weed/water grass and needs some attention. Greens are small, but, roll true and pretty consistent. for the money, you really can't go wrong. Carts worked fine, and the course could be walked quite easily. There is shortage of markers, signs, and yardage indicators. Overall, I would play it again, but, only at reduced prices. They just need to put more money or time into maintenance, but, have a good foundation for a nice place. The pro-shop is small, but, adequate and friendly fair staff. Seems to be honest group, who leave a lot of the operations up to "honor system" and do well with that, creating a welcoming feeling. The bar/clubhouse is well managed and prices are fair and product good. Almost like s small bar/community center with a lot of down home folks.
Needs too much work to recommend
People there were nice. However, you can't tell the fairways from the rough. It was just about exactly worth the 12 dollars I paid. I did enjoy the round, but it was difficult to find consistent grass in the dead center of the fairways, and the greens were similar to the greens used for sand shot practice too - mowed, not really tended. I had to drive about 30 minutes to get there, and I wouldn't do it again. Nothing really against it, but I'd rather play on a course with some minimal state of groundskeeping.
Great price...not a lot of people
Course was very nice almost country like...deer and ducks throughout the course...greens had some bad spots but overall a great place for the price...not many people on the course when we went so didn't feel rushed
Cheap Round To Work On Irons
I must begin the review of Canyon Lakes by commenting on how friendly everyone was at this property. Not just the staff, but the on course players as well. Genuinely friendly folk that were willing to accomodate and help.
The drive to this golf course from Austin was significantly longer than I expected. Given what I know now about the drive, I would choose another course, even with the discounted price I received ($19). Quicksand at Woodcreek is about 20 miles closer in Wimberly and green fees can be had for around $30; a tradeoff I'd willingly make.
The course fairways were well watered, but poorly trimmed with varying grass lengths the rule rather than exception. Many of the tee boxes had uneven surfaces forcing the ball to be teed above/below my feet. However, the greens were in outstanding condition, despite what other reviewers have recently stated. I was able to launch several high low-iron shots that one hopped and stopped. Surprisingly, I even had to repair ball marks. In early September on a 100 degree day! How many affordable Texas golf courses can say that?
Canyon Lake is a short course from either white or back tees. Only one hole warranted driver. That being said, it's a good place to work on your course management clubs and short game skills. I found the small size of a few greens to be a real challenge, especially the elevated 18th.
Needs work
Definitely needs some work on the courses. Fairways were more like pastures. Haven't been mowed in a while. Greens were in need of serious work. Tournament ahead of my group. 6 players per team. Each with own cart. Made for a very very long round.
Easy and cheap
Golf now $9.99... hard to beat. Just as cheap as hitting a bucket of balls at the range. Might as well practice on a course.
Fairways were rough... greens not very good, but for $10 its hard to beat.
Great value for your money. Fast round of golf.
This was my 1st time playing this course (August 30, '13). Very happy with the course and time required to play a round of golf. Will definitely return many more times. If you are an average golfer like myself (shot a 92) you should enjoy this course. Open nature of many holes makes this a very forgiving course which adds to the enjoyment of this course.
The scenery is beautiful and it was quiet and peaceful out there.
First time we played there and we did not feel rushed. The greens were mean and there were plenty of hazards to lose balls in. Challenging course compared to what we are used to. Friendly staff. Will play over and over again!
