Thrilled
I found this course to not only be enjoyable, but for the price, I enjoyed it immensely! The greens were in great condition as well as the fairways. This course will be my first pick the next time I'm in Dallas.
Poor shape, unfriendly staff, slowest course in Dallas
I did not care for this course. The fairways and greens were in mediocre shape at best. Maybe it was just a fluke outing, but the condition of the course did not look like it could ever be in much better shape either. Also this has got to be the slowest pace of play of any course in Dallas, easily close to 6 hours during Fridays/weekends. The staff was actually rude to me as well when I got range balls and mentioned that I thought they came free with the golfnow deal (apparently they did not). The only pro is that there were some interesting hole layouts, but nothing scenic or memorable.
Overall there are just better places you can spend your money on for golf in the area, and I would not return.
Hidden Gem!
Never knew there was this golf course near me until I seen it here on golfnow. When I first walked up to the course I was treated as I was a paying member. Very nice staff! Course was in excellent shape. Greens are fast when dry! Food there was awesome! Would definitely go back for another 18.
Less then expected!
The greens and bunkers were very nice but that was the only positives for me. About 20 driving range balls for 5 bucks seems ridiculous! Course is very hard and dry, needs alot of water and care. Fairways were not good and rough was very sparse. Obviously the price on golfnow can be very cheap which makes any course worth playing once. Every par 4 is about 390 from blues, not alot of distinction from hole to hole.
Good value, OK, not great
The price was right and the course layout was good. They had a few memorable holes. However, there where a few holes where you could see a wayward teeshot from adjacent holes coming your way. I enjoyed the threesome I was paired with, as we were all from out of town.
Pro-shop staff was friendly and helpful. 19th hole staff were more concerned with making personal phone calls in front of customers than taking food orders and serving....
I think it was a good overall value and the pace of play was not too bad considering the level of play that low rates usually bring in.
Not a winter course.
In its day I'm sure this was a great private course. It has a great potential but the fairways were very sparse and the lack of water was evident in the dry ponds and gullys along with the fall aeration plugs that are still on the fairways. The greens were in better shape. Shockingly the sand in the traps was very good again evidence of better days. The carts are both electric and gas. The electric cart we had barely made it in and saw 3 times when carts were being towed in. Food was good and the staff was great.
nwm418,
I noticed you are from Denver, probably not much bermuda grass in that climate. The bermuda goes dormant through the winter and loses its green color. I played yesterday and it is as flush as anywhere in the metroplex and the new management had just bought a brand new fleet of golf cars, no problems there. I recommend you try it again next time you are in town.
A challenging and beautiful golf course with tons of history!

Great course for the $$
Fun challenging course. Typical winter conditions. Kept up fairly well. Not a big clubhouse. Overall a very pleasant experience.
This course was in good condition for the time of year.
The greens were in good condition and for the time of year/weather, the fairways and tee boxes were as well. The only complaint that I have (really has nothing to do with me) the locker room smelled like mildew and there were holes in the ceiling where the tile had fallen down. Im not a member so... Overall, good golf course, and for the price that i played it for, I really loved it! Thanks, Golf Now!
Good deal after 11am, fun course
Enjoyable, good value, good pace of play even on a busy Sunday.
small greens
I'm going into my forth year as a weekend golfer. This was my first visit at GCOD. My gut feeling of smal greens came to life when I came. Secondly, the man @ the desk could of informed me that the fairways were arerated. Third, the scorecards should have a graphic print of the layout of the greens. Had I not been paired with someone knowledgable of the course, I would be lost. In summary, "been there and done that"
Okay for the price. Not worth more than $20.
They were aerating the fairways as we played so that, no doubt, tainted our experience for sure. Greens were ok. About average for this time of year. Worth the $20 we paid but I wouldn't want to pay regular price.
I recommend you give it another try, it is in great shape now!!! Just played yesterday and loved it!
for the price, The Golf Club of Dallas is amazing. PLAY IT......
I have played some private courses, among them Las Colinas Country Club, Hackberry Country Club, Brookhaven Country Club and a lot of public courses among them, The Tribute, Old American, Castle Hills, Waterchase, Texas Star and for the price that you pay at The Golf Club of Dallas, it has to be the best deal that you can get in DFW. I played in winter time, but it is still an amazing course and the best deal in DFW. I have recommended this course to my friends and I recommend The Golf Club of Dallas to any golfer in Texas.
Loved it.
It has been 20 years since I played this course. With the exception of a few trees being gone it was just as I remembered it. An old style golf course not too long but a rolling layout with some interesting holes.
Great course, greater value!
I was looking for a course locally but didn't want to pay the private club rates. This course fit the bill beautifully. Got right on, play was moving along at a good pace and ended in a great round of golf.
Alot of room for improvement
-Cart shortage, players fighting over carts coming in off 18.
-Carts couldn't make it around afternoon rounds.
-Made 1:05 time on Golfnow, course had us on 1:14 time. Single behind us made a 1:30 on Golfnow, wasn't on the list at all.
-Starter ripped Golfnow, told us to call course direct.
-Very unorganized, mis-managed.
-Pace of play was ridiculously slow
tlandry999,
You should give The Golf Club of Dallas another try! They just got a new fleet of golf carts and the course is in great shape!!
lots of rain days B4
course needs help....probably unfair to rate because there was 3" of rain days B4 play....however no much grass on fairways...very thin...
I know you played in mid January and it was dormant, but you should try it again! It was in awesome shape yesterday!!!
greens held approach shots even this time of year
For winter time, conditions are still pretty nice. Fairways are dormant but greens still roll nice and hold approach shots. Pace of play for a Saturday was not bad. Even had all you could eat navy bean soup to warm you up after the round.
Glad I found it!
Most definitely one of the hidden gems in the Dallas area - well maintained - friendly staff - challenging layout - country club quality at a muni price - very walkable, which I find makes the golf experience even more enjoyable
great course to play sweet
some of best fairways and the sweetist fast greens i have played on please keep that way
wmgarvin9,
I played here yesterday and it is in great shape! I think you caught it a little early in the year when it was still coming out of dormancy. I recommend you give it another try and you will be pleasantly surprised!
