great old style course
always enjoy playing course. always well maintained. pace of play on sunday afternoon is not good.
Easy to Drive, Difficult Approach
Pin placement is tough at this course, and nearly every green is guarded. Drives are easy and there's not much trouble off the tee, but the course is challenging on approach.
Very fun, staff is very friendly, and pace was well moderated.
Great course to play.
The course was in great shape. The staff was great and I really enjoyed the experience. One of the city's best kept secrets.
Hidden gem, great value, disappointing customer service
Had heard good things about the course, but poor comments on customer service. Showed up with an open mind. Got to the course quite early before my tee time. "Owner/Manger" was not at all accommodating in getting me out early as a single player. Course was wide open...only two twosomes went off the tee in the hour and half that I waited! Not exactly friendly, caring, customer service. Course was in overall good condition. Some soggy spots from overwatering. Would definitely play again and deal with the indifferent staff.
Nice Old Country Club
This was at on time a private club, and it's a pretty short course. The greens were in very nice shape, and very consistent when I played. There are some really nice holes here!
This is another great little Oak Cliff course. Not the elevation change at Stevens, but in better shape, and you do have to make your shots or you can get in trouble quick.
Great challenging course, great price
This is an older, quite challenging course that has been kept in great shape. It's tree lined and the rough is thick at times. It's greens are relatively small and sometimes difficult to hit, but they roll true. All in all it offers a great deal for the price. It's kept in better condition than most public courses I've played in Dallas.
She's a beauty with serious history
Same as my last review on GC of Dallas (formerly Oak Cliff CC), how can you not love it? Its historic ground where many of the greats have played. This course started my quest to get to more of these old gems, and I really enjoy it. Like Glen Garden the greens are small - intimidating especially on Par5s! She's also in great shape considering the heat we're having.
Nice and private
The course was in great shape. The greens were good. It was a pretty course. I'd play it again if I get the chance.
Nice course and play hard. need better marshaling and pace of play
Nice course and play hard. need better marshaling and pace of play.
Hidden fees
After paying the GolfNow price, I still had to pay over $50 once I got there. They charged over $25 for a non-member fee that wasn't mentioned, and I had someone not playing riding in my cart and was charged another $25 for that. Good course, but lots of hidden fees
Death march on a Sunday afternoon
The pace of play for a Sunday afternoon round was close to 5 hours. Never saw a marshall on the course moving things along. The course itself was in pretty good shape and fairly challenging. It would definitely help to have a course layout on the scorecard for a first time player. I would only play again if I thought anyone from the club cared about the pace of play.
Very pleasantly surprised
I play a lot of courses across the metroplex each Sunday with an eight-some - not Muni's. Myself and one other tried this course just to see what it was like - never played it before. The greens and fairways were in excellent shape. The course was challenging and an overall great value. We are adding this course for our eight-some to play very soon.
Course is of good quality.
The course was a good challenge for all levels of golfers. Tee boxes and greens are a little close. An errant shot could cause a conflict due to the proximity of the tee boxes and greens. Course is tree-lined and has tradition. A few blinds shots requires one to play the course more than once. Overall a good golf course.
Even slow play couldn't ruin this course.
I don't like slow play, but I am a very patient golfer. We teed off a little late and the round took nearly 5 hrs. That was difficult, but I still LOVE this course! Especially when I played for less than $20. This was my second time playing here and it helped that a guy in my group knew the layout because you can't just grip it and rip it. Some holes are tightly lined with trees. They have great risk/reward holes, elevation changes, and small undulating greens. The conditions were excellent during both of my rounds (winter and summer). I dont live in the Dallas area, but this will be the course I play when I visit from now on.
Best golf experience in Dallas!
Played the course for the first time yesterday and I can't tell you how impressed I was. From the course conditions to the pro shop staff to the 19th hole, top notch all the way around. We had a 1:15 tee time and showed up about 45 minutes early. The pro shop staff was very accommodating and actually got us off 20 minutes early! They had two cart girls running on the golf course and they even delivered food to us on the course, don't think I've ever had that service before. The golf course was in PERFECT shape and the greens were fast and true. My foursome played in less than four hours, which was great for a Saturday! HIGHLY RECOMMEND, MUST PLAY!!!
Excellent traditional style course in great shape.
I played The Golf Club of Dallas early morning during the week and found the club to be in excellent shape. It is a well established traditional style course with generous driving areas and well bunkered greens. The course is priced very fairly for it's condition. I would highly recommend the club.
This is a great course
The course is one of the top 3 courses I've played since I started in 2000. The price is fantastic for any course let alone one in this condition. I've played there 4 times now and can't wait to go back. They are friendly on the phone and it only gets better when you're there in person. The young men that work there are very polite and that's refreshing to see in these times. I tell everyone I know to go play The Golf Club of Dallas. A 10 out of 10 in my opinion.
Great greens!
From the back tees this course gave me all I could handle. The course is in great shape and I can see how it has hosted several pro tournaments. Many holes play left to right so bring your fade. Greens rolled true and fast. For under $20 this course is a MUST PLAY!
Old Country Club Feel and Super Greens
this recently has become my home course, i have played it 6 times in the past few months... I love the greens and condition of the course and the staff TYPICALLY is perfect.... HOWEVER the last two times i have been there has been a new guy that has rubbed me the wrong way. Maybe it was a bit too bust for him to handle?? also the #1 tee box guy that was checking receipts joined the 4some 2 groups in front of us to make 5. we caught them on the #9 tee box when the group in front of us left. There were only 2 of us and we were sitting on the #10 tee box with them as they hit and they only seemed to slow down as the holes went on, i understand guys drinking and having a good time but they gotta be conscious of others... ESPECIALLY if they work there?? tee time 6/22/2013 @ 1:38pm finished@ 6:38pm nearly 3 hrs on back 9
