You get what you pay for
They are working on 4 holes and moved the greens up but I really wouldn't call them greens. Might as well not put on those 4 holes. Also the cart ladies have no golf etiquette. One was yelling to her friend as I was putting. Then the other one was coming in the direction that my wife was hitting.
I Will Come Back
Besides 3 or 4 temp greens, this is a fun course. Course is a little slow so don't come if you are limited on time and expect to get 18 holes in.
Under renovations
Because of it's location, coupled with the First Tee activities there, it does get crowded. Holes, 1,2,4,8 have temporary Greens right now and the holes play about 15-20 yards short. My partner and I decided to just play "in the leather" on these holes because putting is a none issue because of the longer bladed grass on the temp. Green. The price is reasonable mainly because of the temp Greens now. However, it would be nice if Golfnow could get info like this from the courses as I just don't like playing temp. Greens.
Extremely poor conditions
Haven't played here in about a year. Use to play here about 5 times a year and was always a good muni course. Today the course conditions couldn't have been any worse. 5 fairways under repair that havent been mowed in a month or two. The greens had 3 to 4 strips 3 feet wide of completely bare spots.
The course was in great shape
Really liked the openness of the course , the greens were very challenging . Overall had a great time can't wait to go back .
Very suprised!
My son plays Rockwood when he plays his high school tournaments and the course has been very run down in the past. Very hard fairways and the greens we're not in good shape. Today I went because I was going to play the par 3 course but when I drove by, the course looked like it had benefited from the recent rains. The fairways were very nice compared to what they normally are but the greens on the first 8 holes had a lot of sand and we're basically unputtable. I think only three fairways looked and played pretty muddy. I walked the course with my backpack bag and finished probably faster than when I normally play using a cart. There was no wait on the course and with the recent rain other than the first couple of greens, there it was very enjoyable. Back nine greens were surprisingly in really good shape and putted well. I only paid $12 to walk and got a full 18 holes in. Big improvement from previous times I have been out there. I will be going back as my practice course as long as the conditions don't decline from today.
Greens unplayable
The greens on the front nine were unplayable. I heard the greens would be "replaced" next week. I should have known in advance that the greens on the front 9 were so bad.
Terrible shape
This course has potential to be a nice, little muni, but the conditions were frankly terrible. Several fairways were complete dirt and greens were covered in sand and very spotty. Turned what could have been an enjoyable sunday into a frustrating lot.
Cow Pasture
This place is probably the worst golf course I've ever seen.
Poor Condition
The course was in terrible condition. The greens were mostly dead and had sand on them. Fairways were about half dirt and most of that was in the middle of the fairway.
reason it is called ROCKwood
This course was terrible. I payed $26 to play here and the ground was hard as a rock. It was great for your drives but if you had to chip at all it was terrible. The ground was so hard that my clubs would literally bounce off of the ground. You couldn't create a divot to save your life. I am an Irons player and this ground killed my game. It was so bad I would have to hit an 8 iron from 100yds out when that is my club for 15-165. I would not recommend this course to anyone. plus it is in the ghetto
poor conditions, poor pace !!
Don't expect too much here. If you are in the middle of the fairway, there is a slight chance your ball will actually land on some grass, I said slight. but don't worry, you will have plenty of time to look around & find some grass to hit from while you are waiting on all the 5somes & even 6somes, in front of you...how pathetic is it that a course would allow this, and on the weekend. Pray for rain, cuase it does not appear they are watering anything here.
Good value
Took my 12 year old brother here and he played 18 no problem. Good course set up.
Great! course for practicing your game.
If you can do good on this course, you can do great on any course. This course is easy enough but little challenging. You think you can shoot in the 80's but will end up shooting in the 90's. Great course practice you driving game and chipping. great course for beginner.
Still a good course!
Had not played Rockwood sin the changes they made a few years back. I had forgotten that it is no cakewalk! Luckily the 18 that was closed/shortened was the tougher of the two 18's. The layout is purely old school and the green's are very tough. You better bring your A game as this is one of Fort Worth's finest municipal courses.
