Challenging
Amazing views really friendly staff, would definitely recommend to give it ago,
Challenging course
If you can avoid the sheep and sheep droppings on the course, then you’ll have an enjoyable if challenging game.
August bang
Considering the weather conditions the course was in very good condition and the greens were. fast, only downside was the amount of sheep crap on the course otherwise an excellent day
Proper Golf
A wonderful moorland course complete with sheep. We really enjoyed the scenery and the views. The course was challenging but a lot of fun.
Enjoyable course
Really like this course, very open area and spacious with great views. Quite tricky with narrow fairways but not too severe rough . You gotta be straight off the tee. I just like the wild feel of the place. Good meal as well, in a well layed out clubhouse.
A hidden gem
A wonderful course in amazing condition. Tee boxes, fairways and Greens all very good.
Greens super quick and run true.
Staff and members are always very friendly towards visitors and even though clubhouse is closed you can still get hot and cold snacks.
Would highly recommend
Great course
Great day course and greens were excellent, good value for money
Played this course a few times now, this time it was on winter greens and we still enjoyed it, the layout the views everything about it I enjoy. I will be booking back up for another day of enjoyment. I have played here with my society for a full day with food layed
on and perfect.
Winter at Appleby
Considering the weather and the COVID situation the course had winter teas and winter greens on and you had to play of a mat on the fairways, it was very enjoyable with no hold up in play.
The actual greens looked in great condition and we can’t wait to come back again
Great course
First time playing the course and really enjoyed it. Played with two members who were great fun and good guides for the day. The course itself had fantastic views and the greens were playing really well. I'm used to playing on parkland courses with plenty of trees so it was nice to have a new challenge. There were some great par 3s on the course including the 4th and 16th. The course wasn't particularly long which meant there were chances for good scoring.
Brilliant course all year round
Have played this course on numerous occasions in opens and just on a day out. No matter what time of year we have been it is always in excellent condition. This was no different despite there having been 3 days of heavy rain. Some great holes capped off by the 15th. Always a friendly welcome and although we didn’t use the clubhouse on this occasion it is always very good. If your in the area give yourself a treat and play this great little course.
A wonderful course, absolute pleasure to play. Very open and forgiving, no trees or water hazards to speak of, but it's a challenge in a different way: the natural grazing land means you rarely have a normal stance and footing, every shot needs thinking about, especially when you end up off the fairway and have to try and hold a green with little spin. Speaking of the greens, some of the best, in both condition and design. Nice subtle breaks, once you get it over the shoulder of the many bunkers protecting them or chipped on from the very tight lies of the fairways.
Great drainage, threw it down at one point and there was no standing water.
If you're not on the green on the 15th off the tee your card is ruined.
A gem of a course, will be playing regularly.
Great course
Well worth the journey (54 miles). A very wet day but course in excellent condition and staff very friendly
