Course ok
The course was ok, fairways lacking grass and quite straw like but typical for this time of the year. Unfortunately, far too many dog walkers but expected being a council course. Twilight in hindsight probably not the best time to play. I will play there again in winter when fairways are in better condition.
Queens Park.
Although the course layout is impressive there are a lot of dry areas therefore having to play or very tight lies. Lots of sound of traffic as you go round the course also.
BEWARE of the dog walkers/public
First time playing the course and only managed to play 9 out of the 18 holes (1-5, 12, 15-18)
To start im a seasoned golf and played many courses but somehow I managed to go from the green at hole 5 to the 12. I was following the 2ball in-front of me so they must have done exactly the same (i should have checked the tee off plaque) .
Once I realised mistake and walk back down the 12th to were the 6th is, there was a members tournament playing on the 5th green which refused to allow me to tee the 6th in front even after explaining the mistake. Once i finished the 12th i somehow found myself on the 15th tee box,
The course is average at best with the fairways very patchy and rock hard dirt patches littered everywhere, greens also quite sandy.
Biggest problem with this course is the constant presence of dog walkers EVERYWHERE, i only managed to play 9holes and there was at least 1 on each hole. One hole there was also a lady pushing a baby buggy down the middle of the fairway. (Not just across the fairway one side to the other)
The course has some nice slopes which makes a change from a constant flat course, but i feel it is very over priced and would not play again ever due to so many negatives with this course
Queen’s Park
Very enjoyable round while my wife was on a work course in Bournemouth.
Hills
A very hilly golf course, with fairways defined by trees rather than rough on most holes. Good challenge for a high handicapper, however could be quite easy if you are better at the game.
Disrespectful dog walkers
It’s not uncommon to meet dog walkers on golf courses but these lot are a different breed. They think they own the place and have no time or respect for the golfers. I won’t ever return here. It’s just a waste of time. Had one group of walkers blatantly pick up my ball and walk of with it.
Tee off 10 mins late behind a large group. Round took over 5 hours, with lots of waiting between each hole! Perhaps was overbooked, although hopefully this was a one off as previous rounds played here have not been so slow.
Fantastic layout
Fantastic layout If this course was private ownership and money spent it would be one of the best courses in the south west. Bad points lots of dog walkers not just waking across the fairway but on the fairways
Shame About The Dog Walkers!!
Should really enjoy this course. A real variety of holes and it's easy to see why - back in the day - it was a professional tour venue. Course was in reasonable condition. But........and this is the BIG 'but' the number of dog walkers, general walkers, sunbathers, etc, etc that have access to the course make it not much fun. Some have the common sense to check for golfers but others are completely oblivious.......walking down the middle of fairways.....across the greens.....shocking really!
Disappointed
To think this was apparently once a championship course it is a far cry from this. Was not at all happy with course condition. Typical of a public pay and play. Very disappointed and would not recommend. Sad to say. I don't like leaving negativity however do not think this is value for money.
Mountaineering
This course is so hilly you need a chair lift on some of the holes.
Queen’s park
Lovely course to play friendly staff really enjoyed would recommend it
Same as
Review is titled same as because it’s the same always at the course , the one problem people should be aware of is it’s a public park with dog walkers, people walking out onto fairways and people not moving or unaware that a golf ball travels at speed and will hurt !!!
The course itself is a good challenge , need to keep it on the fairway to post a good score as the rough is unforgiving here. For the money you take the downsides .
Good cheap course to play, greens are a bit worse for wear!!
Amazing course layout and lovely surroundings. I live in Queen’s Park so I have walked through here many times. It could be such a great course with the right money spent, but as it’s a municipal not likely as it’s shared ground with walkers, dogs, cyclists etc. I said hi to everyone with a smile and stroked many dogs.
It not a bad cheaper winter course as it takes the wet weather well. Greens are shocking for most of them, but not bad for winter golf. The only thing that was awful was speed of play. I played this course last minute as I live over the road, and was playing behind 2x 4 balls who were clearly friends. Refusing to let me through. I wasn’t in a hurry, but common courtesy should prevail and let me through as 1 person finishes 18 holes at least an hour quicker than a 4ball. Gave me plenty of time to practice multiple balls in to greens and off tees though. Always a silver lining. Bunkers need sand in too as little to no sand in them.
I would recommend this place to play if you can get a deal through GolfNow. It’s like an amazing pitch and putt but a full golf course. I will play here again, but only a very early tee time to get ahead of play.
For context I am not a crazy fast player, but I shot 82 today and was rather frustrating waiting all day to play so should’ve been better.
