Interesting and challenging course

I found playing this course an enjoyable experience with plenty of interesting holes , a bit harder work than I imagined as it is deceptively hilly . I will definitely return

Workington

A well kept course let down by a selection of greens in the middle of other fairways and hidden tees. poorly signed.

Good course but no access to facilities

We have played the course several times over many years and it has always been in good condition.
The drawback this time was the pro shop was closed and no-one answered the phones in the shop or main office. In fact the only people around at 11:00 am were 2 members leaving the course. Fortunately we had prepaid and had no qualms in starting our round(early). I did check the pro shop after completing the round but the shutters were still down. Hopefully there were unusual circumstances causing the lack of pro shop access

Nice course, shame about the amenities...

Visited on a warm sunny September day and enjoyed our round. The course is a good challenge for the average golfer with lovely scenery all around. Temporary greens were in play on the day, which was a shame as the actual greens looked excellent. The course flowed well, but better signs to the next tee would have helped us - we got confused a few times during the round! Care is needed in parts of the course due to crossovers or proximity of other holes, although this didn't really give us any trouble.

It was definitely the poor amenities that let Workington down. Two phone lines, neither answered when I tried to call before our round, both eventually cutting to a recording of the FEBRUARY course report!! On arrival we found an unmanned reception, with a few drinks and chocolate bars available to pay for via honesty box. We spoke to one of the staff in the office, who asked if we had paid but didn't check names or tee time, much less offer any information about the course or facilities. There is no pro shop, the bar was closing at 6pm, and only serving evening meals Thurs to Sun. Be aware if you like to relax with a drink and a bite to eat after your round!

Overall we had a good day's golf and would be happy to play there again, but the facilities in no way live up to the standard of the course, and that is a bit of a shame.

Decent enough course with some good challenging holes, bunkers in pretty poor nick though (damaged a lob wedge in one on a large stone hidden underneath sand/ball). Most disappointed that there was no catering - apparently on the day we played they started 'winter catering hours (on a scorching hot day in early Sept?!). Was looking forward to lunch prior to going out and the attitude wasn't great.

Excellent golf course

This course is in excellent condition. The greens are perfect. I had great round of golf on a lovely day, so lucky given the Cumbrian weather. Nice staff and the menu had a really good variety for all.

In tricky conditions, a strong northerly wind, we set off to play the course on 9th May 2021
It a pleasure to play with views of the fells and solway firth to add to the experience.
With 5 par fives and 5 par 3 holes all.of which require precision its a great test
Enjoy because we did

Awful

Rang up numerous times before booking but no information on course conditions. Took it that everything was open . Half the course was closed off. The bar was closed so no food. The course was a struggle to walk on in places never mind play on. The temporary greens are pointless all in all no point playing there in winter. But most annoyed about no course condition information because I would not of booked knowing half the course was closed . But in all honesty it should of been closed full stop

A great course for long hitters.

Played the course for the first time post-lockdown so like most courses at present, it was in good but not great condition, particularly the bunkers and some very long, ball losing rough just off the fairways. No service in the club house other than a coffee machine and self service chocolate bars/drinks. Had an apology but no reduction in green fees to reflect the reduced experience. I have just relocated nearby and am looking for a club to join, I will certainly be back before deciding. I can imagine it has been, and will be again a great course and club. Defintely worth playing if you're in the area.

Great condition but “slow going t’day Marra”

First time playing the course which was in excellent condition and greens were very good.

No one there to speak to at the clubhouse so after wandering around for 10 mins I gave up and went to the first tee. 4 balls in front of me and that meant 10 minute + waits on most holes and gave up after 9.

The course layout is very strange and there are holes with tee shots being played over greens etc. The back part of the course from 4th to 13th is frankly bonkers and I got lost a couple of times although there were a couple of members who put me back on the right track.

Would definitely play again now I’m a bit more in tune with the layout as the course is really nice with some challenging holes and great views.

Would be good to tell members and ladies that despite their tee times no doubt being sacred they could show a little courtesy and let people through. The argument always seems to be “well there’s groups in front” but that’s a moot point. I could have been round 18 in 2hrs 30 mins but instead I gave up after 2hrs and 10 mins to play 9 holes. Staff nowhere to be seen but I put that down to the current conditions.

Definitely recommend this but need to make sure you are not being the seniors!

A nice course

Workington golf course is a well kept club, the course is not overly challenging but is a very nice parkland course. There are a couple of holes that have crossing fairways and some of the greens are close together. Overall it’s a nice club fun to play with friendly members.

The course is in great condition

Pitty about the weather (really heavy rain) but there was enough places on the course to take shelter fairways in great condition and the ruff down enough to find Yr ball easy to, greens were good too.

Okay condition, poor layout

The course is in decent condition considering the recent weather, and the greens are some of the quickest in the area. However the course layout is badly thought out and poorly signposted (we had to ask another group for directions at one point). There are a number of holes that are far too close together and we had keep waiting for other tee boxes/greens to clear before taking our shots.
