Best in the area
Very few come close to the layout, conditions and staff. Top notch anytime I play there.
Great day
This course is an all around winner. Conditions were great people were very friendly and explained everything to you and it was not overly difficult but still very challenging.
Fantastic course.
New and in excellent condition. Best I’ve played in a while. Greens are fast. Will play again.
Challenge layout
The course is a challenge, greens are in great shape and have a lot of breaks, even the fairways have slope. Great staff and a well run pro shop.
Best Example of Strategic Architecture Open for Public Play in Tampa Bay Area.
First let me get the bad out of the way, this course is in a neighborhood. However, unlike many other such courses in Florida, I never feel cramped at Lakewood National. If you look at the satellite view the course may not look all that special. What that view doesn’t show you is the tight undulating fairways which require a golfer to think through where to position their next shot. You must ask yourself, “Do I want the best angle, a flat lie, a view of the pin, or something else entirely.” There is always a choice at Lakewood National and definitely many ways play each hole. Play this course as many times as possible while it’s still public, I know I will.
RF Squirrel
Better condition than TPC Tampa which was more costly. Great staff. Fast greens. Great value for winter golf
Another great round
This is a great course...one of the best in Sarasota.
Great track. Slow pace though.
Magnificent facility; nice people; complimentary range balls; huge, nice practice areas; you could spend two hours practicing alone. Extremely well maintained. The greens have extreme contours, and are lightning fast. This can be fun, if you have the right attitude and approach and skill; but inevitably most players will average at least 3 putts per hole. At times it feels like goofy golf. And it slows down the pace a lot. Visually appealing, lots of elevation changes, nice landscaping etc. Plenty of room off the tee. They need to slow the greens down a little. Teed off on time on Tues 12/18 at 1:36; didn't expect course to be full but it was; sun was down by the 16th hole; 4.5 hours total, rushing thru the last two holes. Waited on every shot. Paid $48 on a hot deal.
One of the areas best
This course is excellent. One of the best.and most aesthetically beautiful in the area. Playable for all; great track from the tips.
Green are Massive
this course is in excellent condition. It is picturesque. I played there on a hot deal and unfortunately it was windy and colder. The course is long, fairways are like carpet and the green were an 11 on the day I played. It is wide and not therefore not many lost balls. My biggest issue was the greens. So MASSIVE it was like I was playing putt putt. One green must have been 60 yards long. They were also hilly and pin placements were almost unfair at times. I enjoyed the day and I would play again. Just wish the green were smaller.
Tricky
Lots of blind shots and terrible pin placements. Two paces on over a bunker. Pin on 16 placed on severe slope and you can’t stop your ball. Seems to me they are more interested in the single digit handi cappers!
A Beautiful Must Play, but Slow Play
The facilities are outstanding! The staff was friendly, and there was a beautiful, large range and ample practice green space. The course was a challenging but fair layout. It won't beat you up, but you will use most clubs in your bag. The greens are large and fast (11 stimp that day), so stay below the hole. The only issue we had was some seriously slow play. It seems others have said the same. There needs to be some more ranger involvement to help speed it up. We got through 16 and had to stop. That was disappointing. I would have been more disappointed if we paid the full $99 price tag, but we secured a deal through Golf Now which was about 1/2 price. Put this course on your list, and hopefully your pace is better.
