Course is in great conditions
Nice round today. We had 7 birdies total between the three golfers.
The only thing I didn't like was that they do not accept Cash. You have to use credit cards only at the whole course.
Monterey affordable gem
Played Monterey Pines yesterday and 2 days ago. Despite all the recent rain the course was in great shape, no water puddles or soggy fairways. Most bunkers were dry and well sanded. Greens were damp but true. Given a few more dry days and this will be the best public course value on the peninsula for those of us who don’t have 100’s of dollars to splurge on a round of golf. I’d put this course on a par with Pacific Grove and a great alternative when visiting Monterey.
Great conditions all around
Short on length but long on conditions. This is a great course to work on irons and short game. Greens are in excellent shape. They roll smooth at a nice fast pace and hold well struck shots. Fairways are also in great condition. Very lush throughout. There are a few areas where the storms have taken their toll on the course but those areas don’t affect play.
Pace of play was extremely slow but it was a rare sunny weekend so you can image everyone was out playing. Myself included!
Fun Layout, Good Course Conditions.
Despite several weeks in a row of brutal weather in the bay area, the course was in excellent shape. Aside from a few low areas on the course that are now small, temporary lakes, the course played fast and firm with very few mud balls. The greens are in very good shape. I am also a huge fan of the fairly recent change on 18, changing it from a par-4 to a par-5.
Slow play
My 10:20 tee time ended up being an 11:30 tee off. I had prior obligations that required me to be off the course by 4pm. My 10:20 tee time would've done that with no issues but my now delayed tee time only allowed me to play 16 holes in 4 1/2 hours which is extremely unacceptable.
Great Little Track.
Monterey Pines is a really fun course to play. It is not crazy hard, but it does have several very challenging holes. The recent renovation of the home hole from a par-4 to a par-5 was another really good change. Despite all the recent rain, the course played fast and firm.
Crowded
10:20 tee time ended up being a 11:30 tee time. I had prior obligations to be else where by 4:30pm and it was 3:50 pm when I had to end my round only allowing me to play 16 holes. I truly feel I didn't get my money's worth and the only good thing about my experience was the delicious club sandwich served from the bar and grill restaurant on site. All in all this has been my first golf experience to date.
