Pacific Grove Golf Links
About
Originally designed by Chandler Egan in 1932, the first nince holes takes you through the forested areas of Pacific Grove. Egan's nine takes you through an inland terrain and reflects much of the charm of an English rural course done in the old style.
The back nine was designed by Jack Neville, the original designer of the Pebble Beach Links. It opened in 1960, and is laid out in true links design over dunesland that approaches the sea.
Over looking the course is the Point Pinos Lighthouse. Built in 1855, it is the longest continuously operating lighthouse in California. It is a historical sentinel and picturesque landmark of the golf course.
A scenic tour of the dramatic coastline provides views of Lover's Point, Point Pinos, Crespi Pond and the natural dunesland at Asilomar. You will be enchanted by the abundance of natural wonders such as the plentiful Pacific Blacktail Deer, seals, sea lions, sea otters, pelicans and gulls.

Amazing
Like you, I’m a public golf guy. I try to figure out the best, most affordable courses I can play. I’m not sure if there is a Muni Hall of Fame, but if there is, Pacific Grove has to be in it. I was spending the weekend on Monterey and there’s just no way I was going to be able to pay for the famous ones. But the reviews all said this one was a gem. Amen and alleluia. The font nine is a quirky layout with a few fun holes. But the back. OMG. Carved into the dunes, views of the Point Pinot lighthouse, the Pacific Ocean around you on two sides. Every hole on the back was a joy. I will remember this round for a long time. If you get a chance, play the “Poor Man’s Pebble.”
Beautiful course
An amazing round of golf. Not a long course, but plenty of obstacles to get you in trouble if not careful. Friendly staff and amenities! The back nine was beautiful!
Beautiful View
Great course. The front nine feels a little squished, very skinny greens in between lots of houses. The back nine is along the ocean and offers golfers just a beautiful view. Some of the staff are friendly others seem a little cranky.
Beautiful course
The front is just okay; the entire back nine is by the ocean. As beautiful as any course in Hawaii and a fraction of the cost. Staff is very welcoming. You cannot do better for the cost.
Nice alternative
Staff was very friendly. Good alternative to the big money courses along 17 mile drive. Pace of play was held up by group in front of us or we would have been done in 3:45. Lots of deer and great ocean views.
Stunningly beautiful Day
Everything was perfect. The weather, the course conditions, everything. EXCEPT. Slow groups in front of us. Had to wait at almost every hole. But, I love that you don't pair us with people we don't know. I'd rather wait a bit and play with just my hubby, than paired with others who are much better or much worse than us. Either way, it can be awkward. Overall, the day was perfect.
Best bang for your buck
Nostalgic golf course and laid out for those that are 30-1 index. Enjoyable for all. Definitely a poor man’s pebble beach!
Cool as a cucumber!
Great course to play when the Bay Area in the upper 100 degrees
Well worth the drive!
The friendly staffs and the energy they gave out we really appreciate especially that our little best friend can walk with us as long as he on the leached
So what’s not to be happy ?
Thanks guys !
Scenic back 9
the course is in very poor condition. Back 9 moves along the ocean. Extremely short and limited variability from blue to white tees. Play it once to say you did.
Poa
For the few remaining courses that have Poa greens in the area I have to say I was highly disappointed in the playing condition of the greens.Though they were lush and bumpy do not expect to score. And if your playing partners are generally going to pick up their ball instead of putting out-I’m sure that would relatively speed up the pace of play
Poor-Man’s Pebble Beach
It’s pretty hard to complain about playing along the coast line of Monterey Bay. Overall the course was in good shape but several of the tee boxes were barren or patchy. I specifically remember holes 17 & 18 tee boxes being in bad shape; not exactly how you want to end your round, especially with hole 17 being a par 3. The weekday round cost is $60 + cart fees. At $60 walking, even with a beautiful walk along the coast, the course should be in better condition. We tee’d off at 1:00pm. The greens were already bumpy. The greens play sluggish, which I don’t have a problem with. But bumpy is a problem because the ball bounces throughout the roll.
Always Enjoyable
Fairways were in nice shape. Better than expected actually. Mainly lush throughout. Just a few thin/brown spots here and there.
I played late afternoon so the greens were showing spike marks and foot prints. Other than that they were healthy
Bunkers were in good shape.
Enjoyable views of the ocean throughout
