Blackledge Country Club is home to two championship golf courses that are both known as some of the best golf in the greater Hartford area. Opened in 1963, Anderson Glen is known as the "Old Course" while Gilead Highlands, opened in 2000, is known as the "New Course." The older course has a more traditional layout but it is just as challenging. The golf course sprawls across acres of lush countryside, providing plenty of trees and water hazards. There are some elevation changes that can cause uneven lies as well as some undulation in the greens and fairways. The 13th is a particularly notable par 3 for its scenery but also its level of difficulty. Although the downhill tee shot will only require a short iron there is trouble all around in the form of protective bunkers and a pond.

Great day of golf

Course was in great shape. Not many golfers were out this day so no delays. The greens rolled nicely and most of the leaves were off the fairways.

Nice Day on a very nice country course

Saw a decent deal for a sunny Sunday afternoon round and took it from GN.. Had played before but conditions last time were not nearly as good... Course was mostly cleared of leaves for the fall. Pace of play was decent and was glad I made the decision. Plays long and glad to have the cart. Deal was great for such a nice course.

Rock Solid Facility

For a public facility, the quality was about as good as you will find in CT. The staff paired me up quickly and I was very impressed with the conditions. The greens were private-club-quality and the fairways were in pretty good shape as well. Many interesting golf holes that were all very fair. Keep your ball straight here as trees line most fairways.

great value

Course was dry and firm due to lack of rain this year. Greens were a little slower than i would have wanted. Fringes were uneven and difficult to putt off of. Fairways and tees were in good condition.

Roped off fairways

I play here several times a year and still wonder why the course superintendent continually ropes off some of the fairways to cart use. I can understand "cart path only" when the fairways are wet, but denying partial fairway access to at least six holes with ropes and stakes is very frustrating.

Here's why: For example, on the 12th or 16th, I hit my drive down the right side of the fairway and the cart path is on the left side. From the tee box to well past my drive there is no access to the fairway by cart. I can't see my ball, don't know what my lie is, the distance or what club to use. So what do I do? I grab 3-4 clubs, trek down a steep embankment, cross the fairway, find my ball and hopefully I have the correct club. Then I have to climb up that embankment or head towards my ball and have my partner meet me there. If I hit a poor shot but put it closer to the hole, I'm still stuck with the clubs I have.

This situation happens on holes 1, 4, 10, 12, 14, 16 (to name a few) and it causes a bigger problem when you can't even see your ball from where you parked the cart. Many times I find my ball, only to determine I need a different club. I settle for what I have and sometimes lose a stroke due to not having the right club. I obviously can't go back to the cart for the correct club as this could hold up play. It would be nice to be able to drive on those lush fairways.

Just be ready to walk

Course deal was fair. Front nine is interesting. Greens are in good shape, tees and fairways good shape also. Back nine across the road is much hillier than the front and pretty much cart path only the way it is roped off so be prepared to walk and climb. As always staff was great and pace of play excellent. If you are in the Hartford area this course is worth a visit. Might be just a little harder, though shorter, than the Anderson.

Great for CT but not as good as other states golf courses

For a golf course in Connecticut you can't get much better. This course is up to par with many courses that are used on the golf tours because of how much attention to detail everything is (for a course in CT). Compared to other golf courses I have played on down south this course has some flaws and the price is very high for what they offer. I paid 28.00 for a golf cart and 18 holes with a passenger riding along in Tennessee just a few weeks ago at the same day and time as I played at Blackledge. The the course in TN was better, had more water stations, running fossets (to cool off on hot days), ball cleaners, and had a driving range that gave you a small bucket of balls for free when you play 18 holes. The course was in my opinion had a better layout and is kept in better condition than Blackledge.

At Black ledge that would cost me more than 50.00 or more partly because they charge for people to ride along even when they are not playing, and they don't have a driving range. Don't get me wrong I like the course but I hate the high prices because compared to other golf courses they are 2x the price. Just because Connecticut is an expensive state that's no excuse for the price increase. I could see if they added more water stations, had running water stations every 5 holes so you could cool down on a hot day, and added more facilities and ball cleaning stations and let your wife ride for free. Plus the carts don't run that great. I had to switch carts because the one I first used was running rough.

All things considered this is the best course in CT by far in the surrounding area.

Blackledge- a great value

Both fairways and greens were in very good to excellent shape. Pace of play was fine but this was a Thursday afternoon from 12-4. Staff is very nice particularly Kevin in the pro shop. I have played here many times and will definitely play again.

Always a good round !!!

Always a good round of golf no matter what course you play ( 36 ) holes to choose from. The staff will always try to get you out tee time or not, very friendly. Both courses are in very good shape and plays long enough and tough enough for someone looking for a decent challenge. The restaraunt and bar is a must, the food is very very good ! The only thing I would like to see the golf course do is somehow get a younger crowd ( children and young teens ) more involved in playing there, ie special rates, camps, ect ect Over all, great course !

Great place to golf

I love Blackledge. It has 2 18 hole courses that play very differently. The conditions are great ! I've played several area courses with winter damage but not here.
Staff are friendly and accomodating.

Beautiful course, horrendous pace of play!! Quit after 2 hr. and 4 holes.

The pace of play was terrible. Had a group of 6 in front of us (never heard of that before???)2 of which were children under 10....
The course was beautiful and hope to give it a try again. We quit after 4 holes and 2 hours. The staff was kind enough and gave us credit to be used at a future date. Hopefully they won't be overbooked, and or the ranger does his job.
