Blackledge Country Club - Anderson's Glen
About
Blackledge Country Club is home to two championship golf courses that are both known as some of the best golf in the greater Hartford area. Opened in 1963, Anderson Glen is known as the "Old Course" while Gilead Highlands, opened in 2000, is known as the "New Course." The older course has a more traditional layout but it is just as challenging. The golf course sprawls across acres of lush countryside, providing plenty of trees and water hazards. There are some elevation changes that can cause uneven lies as well as some undulation in the greens and fairways. The 13th is a particularly notable par 3 for its scenery but also its level of difficulty. Although the downhill tee shot will only require a short iron there is trouble all around in the form of protective bunkers and a pond.

The second hole’s bold right side bunker might snag a long hitter’s rightward-erring drive. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 09/13/2020

Hole two, again (seen from behind green): It is cast in the mold of classic short par-4. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 09/13/2020

The long, par-5 fourth has a wealth of particularly troublesome hazards, stretching all the way from tee to green. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 09/13/2020

Set upon a small plateau, green six is also narrow, so landing on it in regulation calls for a very clean iron shot. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 09/13/2020

The seventh’s deviously sloped green is sided by deep bunkers, serving to punish wayward approaches. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 09/13/2020

2nd Hole: A 'routine' downhill par-4, but far from a pushover. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 06/15/2020

The third: A long hole that is also long on trouble. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 06/15/2020

Five, looking back on hole: challenging, uphill 374-yard four-par. (Greenside bunkers out of view from this angle). Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 06/15/2020

Eight, from behind: A superb par-three. On the other side of the mounds are large bunkers to catch weak approaches. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 06/15/2020

Course needs some work
Fairways were dried out, bunkers had a lot of small stones and I'm sure the greens were purposely left long because of the lack of water. We played the Glen Anderson course and may return to play the Gilead course in the future. Hope the experience will be better the next time.
Good Course
A very good course to play. This was my first time playing it and I would play it again. The pro shop has a booklet to help you navigate the course with helpful hints. I have already recommended it to others and my foursome would love to go back and play the "Andersen course". The greens were very slow which was a surprise but overall the course was in great condition!
Great course, great day of golf!
I have played this course many times and always enjoy playing 18 holes. I typically take a day off during the week a few times during the summer/fall to play during the week when it is not as busy. Look forward to playing again and again.
Too slow
I left it got so slow. Perhaps a ranger would help. Otherwise, good deal for the money.
Prepare for an all day round.
The course is in great shape. The food and drink are very good as well. However, if you're going to play golf, then it's going to take you much longer than expected. Back to back to back groups of 4. Most of which don't have a clue about how to act. Other than the restaurant, the staff could care less. The rangers drive around and do absolutely nothing to keep play the pace of play. We were 3 groups deep for the front nine which took us 3 hours.
Overbooked
Course was in good shape, weather terrific but the wait was horrendous. Took us over an hour to play 2 holes. After 5 hours we were on the 16th hole with 3 groups waiting. Course was overbooked, with a womens league and an outing. Will be a long time before any of us will play there.
61/2 Hour Round!
Ridiculous! Many holes had 3 foursomes waiting on the tee. Rangers and staff did nothing to speed play. Never again!
Excellent course condition
Have played this course many times over the last 25 years. Condition of course is a good as it has ever been. Keep up the good work!
While you're young. Snail slow
Will not go back. Many better choices in area..
Not a awful course, but round was soooooo slow.
Fast play and challenging shots
Played 18 and had a great time, fast paced, off the first tee on time and I was able to schedule the 7:30 outing with my sons nearly a week in advance on line.
Good Layout
Decent conditions and nice layout. Not extremely hard or long but fun to play.
great day
Even though there was a benefit tournament being held at the course, the staff was able to accommodate our group, and kept our tee time on schedule.
great place
I've played there many years paying from 18 dollars for 18 holes to 45 for 18 holes. place is tip top shape
Love this course!
I found the course in excellent condition but I would love to see the wooded area to the right of Hole # 16 (Anderson Glen-Par 3) cleared out There seems to be some sort iof magnet there that attracts my ball every time I play it HA<HA.
Pace of play To SLOW
PlAy was way to slow. Rangers not doing their jobs. Had to track one down in the pro shop, talking to the other ranger in the pro shop. Four groups on holes waiting. Our foursome quit after 11 holes
League play
Booked time for 8:00. Upon paying I mentioned that I couldn't believe there was no one playing. The guy at pro shop told me a league was playing at 9. Went off the front of Anderson Glen and played the front in 1 1/2 hours. The course was in great shape. Then went to the back where a league was going off. First few holes were backed up and 4 groups were waiting on the tee. It would have been at least an hour to tee off on the back. Went to the pro shop and they made arrangements to play 9 on Gilead Highlands. Just not good planning, almost like they want your money and then good luck.
Good Course.
There are two courses here and this is the newer of them. Played during a dry spell and the grounds crew was dumping water on the course all day. Kinda made for inconsistent play as some greens were freshly doused and some weren't. Also, had to wait for sprinklers to stop occasionally before teeing off, etc. Play was pretty slow on the weekend but that's expected for a muni. There is also one hole (12 or 13?) that drops off into a gully with water on one side, the sign says "200yds to hazard so lay up" but you can actually drive the ball to the left and be perfectly safe.. would've been nice to know that so I didn't have a 200+ yard approach shot!
Other than that the course was in great shape and was reasonably challenging. Greens were a bit slow but that had to do with the weather. I've been told that this is the better of the two courses to play. And you can't really beat the price.
This is a great course.
I love playing this course and have played it twice this year. But my experience yesterday was not good. The course was in great shape. But the pace of play was aweful. We had a foursome in front of us that was playing a scramble type match. You would think this would allow them to play faster but not this group. They never were ready to play and we always had to wait on every shot. I believe that people should learn golf etiquette and also pace of play. Will not play there mid morning again. Better to play in they afternoon.
Great course, but awful pace
My friend and I play Blackledge regularly. The greens always roll great, the course is in very good condition, and the price is very reasonable.
The only drawback this week was the absolutely unmanageable 5 hour round. We saw a marshal once or twice on the course, but it wasn't enough. Spending 5-10 minutes waiting at the tee box was routine. This isn't normally the case, but it seems to be happening more.
For 20 bucks it can't be beat
Got a hot deal for 20 bucks and you won't play a better 18 for that price. Conditions were really good, but based on the 20mph winds it played a bit harder then normal. very playable course.
