Klein Creek Golf Club
Klein Creek Golf Club sprawls across acres of rolling prairieland in the western suburbs of Chicago. Trees frame the layout's gentle doglegs and tall prairie grasses border the fairways. It is a golf course that offers both beautiful scenery and a challenging round. Several lakes also dot the landscape, coming into play on almost every hole. The abundant water hazards are often coupled with spacious, intricately designed bunkers that are also usually paired with wood retaining walls. Contoured mounding frames the fairways and greens as well. Klein Creek Golf Club's layout is not easy by any means but it's fair, offering room for error on even the tougher holes with wide fairways and generous landing areas. There are a variety of approach options for the greens as well, providing great risk-reward opportunities.

Headed out to see how the work on the course was progressing. What is done is a welcome change. Will be back once we see it is completed next season.
Klein Creek is under new management. They have undertaken a new bunker project. The bunkers that they have redone are in excellent shape wth pure white sand. They are also taking some bunkers out that will make maintaining the bunkers easier.
Course is in great shape. No fall free aeration so greens are true and smooth. Beautiful fall color.
Pace of play was slow. 5 hour round on a sat morning.
I used to play this place many times and I love the courses
It was one of the better courses in Chicago area ...nicely maintained beautiful golf courses with fast greens....
BUT NOT ANYMORE!!!
Rock hard bunkers ,fairway like greens...
Too Bad...It needs new management!!!
Good course layout. they are re-doing a lot of sand traps right now so it's under construction. The greens were really slow. Like some of the slowest i've played in a while. They had just gotten 4 inches of rain 3 days before we played so the mowing could have been backed up. I would play it again. Great course for a relaxing round. Lots of bunkers and when they are all redone it will be nice. Lots of water on the course. We just happened to go at a bad time.
This place sucks
Iv've been playing Klein Creek for many years and this is by far, the worst condition I have seen it in. Weeds and gooseshit everywhere. The sand traps are al unplayable. The majority only have dirt (but it is raked - haha) and the 'newer' bunkers have too much sand in them. Putting white sand into bunkers is like putting lip stick on a pig. Finally, the cart paths ware so bad it will shake some of your fillings out. All this for $39. Haha Whatever the cost, they should be charged with robbery.
Great track! Just had a someone within a couple weeks buy the course. Greens were great, fairways very nice, & they are doing an entire bunker renovation. The bunkers will be great! Definitely going back by the end of the season.
Good test of Golf
New ownership is in the process of updating the course. Sand trap drainage is being improved and the sand used is a step above. Once the traps are completed with other course improvements this course will be top notch.
Great Greens and Noticeable Major Improvements to Bunkers
Played Klein Creek yesterday and was extremely happy to see major improvements under way.
I don't know the details, but the word is that Klein Creek is under new ownership and it is clear that whoever it is, from my perspective it appears they mean business. As somebody who has played here several dozen times over the last two decades, I have had the pleasure of seeing the course at Klein Creek in excellent shape and also at its lowest of lows and nearly unplayable.
Whatever changes are coming, it appears that their focus is on golf first and I couldn't be more pleased. The bunkers were perhaps the biggest problem with Klein Creek and they seem to have made this a priority with the installation of some super high quality sand. I learned afterward from an email that this "Pro Angle" sand is used at high end golf courses around the country among them Muirfield Village, Valhalla, and several TPC courses.
This means that the bunkers at Klein Creek will not only be highly consistent and playable, with Dick Nugent's ingenious design, these should be among the finest bunkers in the entire Midwest, if not the country.
I've been fortunate to see the transformations of other area courses such as Arrowhead in Wheaton, The Preserve at Oak Meadows in Addison, and Shaumburg Golf Club. Each of them were ugly ducklings at some point in their history. With good planning, funding, and execution, each today are the envy of so many public courses across Chicagoland.
Aside from the bunkers we noticed several other beneficial changes. Around #4 and #5 they mowed down overgrown brush and bushes that were choking out light and obscuring the creek that flows through (Klein Creek?) This was a simple, yet dramatic improvement. Definitely a better visual than before.
One concern with Klein Creek is ongoing cart path 'issues'. Such were among the most reviled in past reviews. These issues remain in many places, and while not critical to the playability of any course, A long overdue repair and renewal will eliminate this perennial gripe heard from so many a backaching players and provide a new level of comfort for golfers in all weather conditions (not just cart path only). Just hoping this on near future "to-do" list.
My hope is that with these ongoing changes, Klein Creek will see a rebirth of its own. I hope to play several more times during the renovation project(s) until complete.
All staff encountered at Klein Creek continue to be kind and pleasant and helpful. It feels like there is a new energy and it's good.
Last thought on golf here today. The greens have always been in decent shape here. Today, they were fantastic. Even with occasional patchy areas. They were tight, fast and true throughout with a nicey defined fringe.
Keep up the great work Klein Creek. I look forward to seeing your ratings rise to 5 stars once again!
Sand traps are horrible, there is no sand and they look hideous! I heard that this course was just sold, I hope that the new owner puts some time in to fixing some major issues. Sand traps are expensive and take the most time in upkeep on a course. My suggestion is to get rid of the huge bunkers and put bunkers in specific spots, put sand them and keep up with them properly. I, personally, won’t go back to this course unless they make some changes. Greens are nice but weren’t very receptive to good shots even with wedges (need to be watered or something). The staff are very friendly! I hope for the best for this course in the future.
Solid Round at the Klien Creek
Only downside about this course is the bunkers are in need of more sand and serious maintenance. And there are a lot of bunkers here to battle! ... Green, fairways, and tee boxes were in great shape ... Pace of play for a Saturday morning was good ... i enjoy the layout here. Its tight off the tee with water in play on 15 of the 18 holes.
Klein creek need a face lift
Played Klein creek 20 years ago
layout conditions superb
Needs grooming big time
Traps tees poor
Green fairways still holding up
Basically it needs a new face lift
This course is a joke
This course was in one of the worst shapes I’ve see a course this year. Bunkers are disgusting, and looks like haven’t been raked this year yet. You can see that management does not take any pride in their course. I would not recommend anyone to play there as it was just simply below average. It was one and done for me, as I would not play here again, even for free. Shame
I would honestly give this course 10/10 but the bunkers are unplayable. They are full of rocks and barely any clumpy muddy sand. Besides that I really loved they layout of the course. Hopefully they fix the bunkers soon.
Great Layout Poor Condition
Just as the title describes. The course has a great layout and is very challenging. However the condition of the course was very bad. Course has a ton of bunkers, non of which had sand in them. The tee boxes were not well manicured and had crab grass growing in a lot of spots. The greens were pretty hard but rolled well. It’s a shame that the condition is as poor as it is. This course could be excellent if it was taken care of properly. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Just wish they would put some money into this course. I only paid $35 to play and that was a stretch considering the course conditions. I can see why the course was pretty empty, their regular rate is $79. Not worth anywhere near that much
A Chicagoland Gem
Got rained out after the front 9 the last time we played this course. Today it was perfect except our game. Enjoyed the round despite the very challenging layout of the course. Nothing to complain about the professionalism with a touch of friendliness from the staff. Will definitely comeback and enjoy this course again.
Not what I expected
I guess I was expecting the course to look and play like it’s pictures, it didn’t. At times we found it difficult to navigate between holes, the beverage gal was scarce. Some of the tee boxes were dried out, some were torn up and the sand in the traps was about 1/2” deep. Just wasn’t in that great of shape. I really like driving the cart to my car to load up; can’t do that here. A lot of traversing the neighborhoods to go hole to hole. Layout is ok, overall, I was bored. I heard it will be under new ownership, hope that helps.
