Challenging course
High handicap golfer so lost a few balls to the water gods. Will definitely return for revenge.
Local favorite
challenging and forgiving at the same time. Would love to see softer bunkers but overall great for bettering shot selection
A great value
This course is a great value..The pace of play is good...overall..the course is in good shape. My only small complaint is that the Green's are a little hairy making them slow. The layout is designed to grip and rip..would definitely play again..
Cottonwood 6/13
The course is in good shape. Greens are slow. We had the whole course to ourselves.
Greens
The greens were in terrible shape, it's as though no one ever fixes a ball mark. Late in the day I saw a man hitting multiple 7 woods (I'm talking 5 or 6 balls) into a green, and not once did he repair a single ball mark. Unbelievable!!! And on a par 3 on the back side the yardage was off by 40-50 yards
get it on a good price
In pretty poor condition. "The Lakes" has a couple of ponds, but it has more hardpan than water.
the maintenance is pretty poor, greens bumpy. The layout combined with the wind can play tougher than the scorecard. Catch it on a hotdeal and it's worth tolerating the condition. They need to put some of the money back into the course and facilities.
Awesome
had a great time! Fun open course for an awesome price!
Great course for the money.
Nice course. Lost some balls in the water & the rough but also found a few. I would play it again, for sure.
Cottonwood Lakes
Since the drought started in California course turned for the worse just like most courses in SoCal. Still courses challenge and very reasonable fees make a good day out.
Mjc
good course. For the average player. Greens need improving and meter management of very slow players on a crowded day.
Don't play here
worst shape course around......2 eighteen holes ...dont play the lakes course play Ivanhoe course
Great value
Course is in great condition for California drought. Quick play and good scenery
You get what you pay for
I just recently played on April 7th, 2015. The course wasn't in very good condition, the greens were pretty bad, and fairways were average at best. Some of their distances from tee boxes are way off too. The good thing is it is a great value if you just want to get out and practice your game. I only paid like 20 bucks for 18 holes and a cart. The pace of play was excellent, finished in about 4 1/2 hours, and I also played two balls. So I pretty much got a lot of practice. If you are looking for a really nice course, don't play this one. If you are just looking to get out and practice you found your course.
Cottonwood Lakes course needs some work
Perfect day for golf. The staff ran out of keys for the golf carts, so we didn't start on time. The greens have recently been aerated, but haven't been rolled and so are very rough and unpredictable. The longest grass on the course right now is on the tee boxes.
Not for me
Greens were punched that morning so I'll give them a pass out of effort but that's it.I can only assume the greens were just as bad as the rest of the course. We played on The Lakes side of the course but I hear the other side is better.....can't be much worst .Nice staff, awful course but seems like they're trying.
Aerating greens
The greens were being aerated and putting was practically impossible. All the green was being aerated not just half as usual. There was no discount in price for playing in these conditions.
The owners are cheap!
The owners clearly do not reinvest in the property. The facilities are dumpy and even assets such as the carts are in disrepair. I thought, wow, This is really affordable but then I walked up to the first green and figured out why, they punched the greens!
Great, it would have been nice to know that.
Typically this course is not known for great facilities or staff, but the course is consistently so so. This visit was a disappointment even with this mediocre understanding. In other words, I expect below average fairways, average greens, and no frills. This time I saw punched greens, fungus/weed infested greens, and hard-packed traps. Whoever is the greens keeper should be ashamed.
Last, the constant advertisements on the tee boxes appears cheap, even the sign holders are rusted!
Simple and cheap adjustments could change the overall experience of the course but clearly the management does not encourage greatness and the staff are not overly ambitious.
These two factors result in a bad day of golf!
Terrible course
Course condition was terrible. Greens had divots everywhere. Fairways was basically dirt. Sandtraps were basically rocks. First time playing there and my last time. Hole 18 had a sign saying u play free on your birthday. I wouldn't even take that offer, that's how bad it is. Pace of play was so bad. Waiting a good 5-7 mins every tee box.
Decent price, conditions ok.
Very friendly staff, fairways are okay but a little bare in some places. The greens have a lot of weeds growing on them right now but they are still fast enough to roll fairly true. I think this course is priced well when you get a "hot deal". I would not pay over $40 for a round at Cottonwood though.
very bad greens
course heavily played, but it's no excuse to have terrible greens. it was covered in splotches of clover or some other weed. putts did not roll well. also, golfers did not repair ball marks. pace of play was average.
