Easy day out
Weather was ok, all the leaves makes it hard to find ur ball even in the fairways Be nice if they were blue way back
First timer
Great attitude and friendliness of the staff. The pro shop was great. Really just an overall great day. Naturally it doesn’t hurt that I had my best day in years. I WILL be back.
Improvements taking hold
Although it still has the scares of neglect. The staff has a plan to bring this grand course back from a near death experience. Greens are getting much faster and rolling better than the past few years. If you can appreciate a challenge from a great layout and see past the obvious old washout problems, understand all the needs for this course are improving daily, please give the course a try. It may become one of your favorite courses.
First time but will return
First time playing- working on the course so there were some tough spots but I will play again
Don't waste your money on this fungus infested, pock marked disaster.
Let me start off by saying this...The scenery, the greenery of the surrounding foligage of this course is VERY picturesque and peacefully enticing for a golf course; Unfortunately, the course looks like a titan/giant was walking through The State of Kentucky and it bent over and took a big steaming poo all over Doe Vally Golf Course. Please don't mistakenly read anger into my feedback, you'd be terribly incorrect, it's quite the opposite.....I shot 77 today, 35 putts, 61% GIR, 54%FIR, (that's almost 5-8 strokes below my consistant 82-86 average)...so I played well enough above my normal skill levels to enjoy myself, I missed more birdie putts than I care to remember today and there's a good reason why!
Knowing that, I absolutley wouldn't recommend this course for ANY PRICE. The overall playability of this course is currently DISASTEROUS! It's a shame that inept management would let such a picturesque golf course dissolve into such an infected pig pen like state. This course is sadly dying a slow and painful death and I think that it's very safe to assume that the "COURSE MANAGER"/ INTENDANT has absolutely NO KNOWLEDGE OF and no degree in Golf Course Management whatsoever.
HERE'S THE REASONS I WOULD RECCOMMEND YOU DON'T WASTE YOUR $$$ ON THIS COURSE
(1). EVERY FAIRWAY ON EVERY HOLE, (with exception to maybe 2 or 3 of the par 3's), is "pock marked" with fungus infected brown grass, mange-like grass amongst muddy soil filled pot holes/craters every 10 to 20 feet apart for the vast majority of all the fairways. It was like playing in a bombed out mine field of mixed lies of mud, crud, and dying grass. I feel safe is assuming that there is absolutley NO PERSON WORKING THERE with a Degree in Golf Course Management/Maintainance or at least the simple workings of horticulture, proper irrigation and grass/turf management. Often it entered my thought process to hit my ball into the 4-6" short rough rather than down the muddy, mangey, crater marked fairways.
(2). EVERY (AND I MEAN "EVERY") GREEN was also infected/infested with this "mange like" grass killing, hard soil pock mark making, fungus. I hit 61% GIR today and almost every time I landed on a 4ft x 6ft barren, hard packed, muddy soil spot. On the off random times that my ball landed on a grassy part of the green (maybe 3 of the 10 hit greens today), I still had to put through multiple barren, slick, muddy spots on the putting surface. The areas of the greens that still do maintain a healthy resemblence are not adequately maintained making the speed of putt as slow as a sloth drag racing tree sap up the tree! This is not a exaggeration, EVERY green is practically unplayable, garbage.
(3). 90% of the Tee Boxes are basically standing in mud holes! It was impossible to find a spot that was 4x4ft squared to tee off from. I don't know if the course superintendant knows this, but they ACTUALLY sell palates of grass that you can put together like nice green 100 piece grass puzzle rather than cutting 4 to 6 inch clumps of grass and placing them 8 inches apart from each other. It was absolutely ridiculous and pathetic.
(4). Finally, if that's not enough, there is no driving range to warm up at, there is no "cart girl"/person for refreshments during play and other than the (4) par 3's, every hole is 90* to 135* dog-leg (R) or (L), basically there's no varying design concept whatsoever, YOU'RE PLAYING THE SAME HOLE OVER AND OVER AGAIN THE ENTIRE ROUND!
I could win a year long FREE membership to this place and I'd still go PAY to play elsewhere.
Other than that..."It's an amazing place to play!"...endorsed by The Ray Charles School of Golf.
Disappointing
What could be or once was is a after thought now. Really hoped that the course was taking a turn for the better but not sure it is. Friendly staff and cold beer is about all I can say positive about the day.
August 1
Course us playable as is, they are working to improve conditions - still have spots in fairway and on greens but overall I’ll be back
Great Layout and Improved Conditions
One of my favorite courses. The layout is very scenic. Tree lined fairways require accurate tee shots but course is not long so there is no need to hit bombs. Each hole is unique, peaceful, and isolated. Large undulating greens were in excellent condition and are a fun challenge with subtle breaks.
Saw many deer and a couple of spotted bambis who paid little attention to the golfers. Seniors and ladies really like the short tees.
Course just completed an irrigation upgrade and is in much better condition than it has been in recent years. Many of the sand traps need work so best to stay out of them.
Friendly staff, decent course
The staff was friendly in the pro shop. The course was in decent shape. Some tee boxes were rough looking, but others were mowed nicely. The fairways were decent, but ground was hard but lots of bare spots. The greens were a bit disappointing considering they looked to be in pretty good shape, but were quite slow. The layout is nice and enjoyable. The pace of play was one of the worst I’ve ever seen. The back 9 took twice as long to play as the front. On the back 9, there was a several minute wait between shots at each hole. The course is apparently in much better shape than in previous years, but still needs quite a bit of work.
Enjoyable Course in Improved Shape
It was great to see the improved conditions of Doe Valley. The greens rolled perfectly. The fairways were in good shape and showed signs of getting better. Staff could not have been friendlier. I had not played the course for several years due to delcining conditions. But the staff is putting in the time and effort to make a beautiful course regain its enjoyable scenery with the wildlife that resides in the area. Looking forward to playing again soon.
Very poor condition
Go anywhere else. Had a light work day and decided to use my golf now app to sneak in a quick round. The hot deal made it seem like its worth a try. Even at $20 it's over priced. Only a few of the tees had grass and the fairways were in worse shape than a mowed goat pasture. Needless to say I called it quits without finishing my round. When I went into the Proshop and talked to the guy working inside he raved about how much better condition fairways were in than a few years back. Maybe its time he went and played a real golf course to see what he's missing
Just skip it

Much better
I'm impressed how much this course has improved compared with last year.
Much improved Doe Valley Golf Course
Doe Valley Golf Course has improved leaps and bounds this year. Staff is doing an excellent job. If you have not played here for a while I strongly urge you to come give it a chance. I think you will be very happy with the improvements.
Major Improvements!!
I have been playing this course off and on for the last couple of years and was very impressed by all the improvements that have been made. Course is looking great and well worth the drive and money to play!
Much improved
The rains have helped the fairways and greens fill in. They are very close to finishing the new watering system. I played last Tuesday for the first time in two weeks and couldn’t believe how much it had improved.
