Is a very challenging interesting course
Very creative course. Challenging and interesting. I would strongly recommend this course.pace of game was normal.
Redgate
Open early and kept well. They are doing well in keeping up the course.
Great course, great staff
Overall it was a great experience the course was fun, challenging and in great condition.
Great track for great rates!!
This course is awesome. They have a small clubhouse but huge character. The course has a lot of blind shots and uneven lies but not horribly long. Its a great way to brush up on this type of play. Conditions are great with hardly any crab grass. the greens are smooth and roll true. the course is moderate difficulty.
Don't play on the weekends
I've played here a few times, only on a Saturday or Sunday and man oh man....It's a good thing this place is cheap! The range is garbage and the putting green is a joke. Went in to pay and wasn't told anything. We got to the starter shack and was finally informed that tee times were an hour behind because of a tournament in the morning that they "had no control over". Yeah right. I've worked for a few course back in high school and never once ran into the issues they were having. Asked for a refund, nope. Asked for range balls and after hesitation, we got them. They never have enough carts and the pace of play is SLOW at best. You'll wait on every hole so some 25 handicap can take 10 minutes to line up a putt. If you have the patience, play the course. It CAN be challenging on a windy day.
The cooure is somewhat challenging
This is challenging course if you are playing here for the first time, especially par 5s. Course conditions are not that great, greens are not well maintained, but for the price, it is something to consider
Over priced and overbooked
I reserved a 9.08 tee time and was completely surprised when I was told that there was a 30 to 45 minute delay. My foursome finally teed off around 9.50. It was a 5 to 10 minute wait on each hole, after 5 plus hours we left after the 15 th hole. The tees boxes looked like it was not cut in a week and the greens were bumpy and appeared to not have been rolled in a week.
Short But Challenging
Don't let the overall length of the course fool you. Its short, but when the holes are long...they are LONG! Very nice course and in a nice community. I would love to play it again.
Great track for a quick, casual round
The conditions have gotten much better since I last played the course in April. Staff is always very friendly and helpful, and helps to keep the environment relaxed and casual. The only negative I will say is that I would like them to be more aggressive in enforcing pace-of-play policies. It's common to have waits at holes, but it takes away from the course experience when you're waiting on every shot. Overall, a great place to play. Get the Advantage Card. It pays for itself after two rounds and gives you discounts at 5 courses in the state!
Quality experience
First time playing here. Excellent experience. Tees were spotty but understandable for the previous day conditions.
Red gate
Great golf corse long from the back tees.fast play would play there anytime !
Worth playing for the fees paid
Generally, the course was okay. Needs additional maintenance on the bunkers and the rough areas. For players playing the course for the first time, the playing tips located on some of the holes would prove very helpful.
SOOOO SLOOOOOOW
This is not a bad track at all. There's a variety of hole layouts, and it's a fair test for the average golfer. Plus, the course was in pretty good shape - especially the greens, which ran very true.
But.
THE PACE OF PLAY AT REDGATE IS SOOOOO SLOOOOOOOW.
I'm not sure how or why it's so slow, but it is consistently the slowest course I play in the DMV area. I've played weekend rounds early in the morning, at midday, and in the afternoon - doesn't matter. It's just slow.
So, if you don't mind slow golf, then you will likely get your money's worth from this otherwise nice muni. Just make sure you play with people you like, and have plenty to keep your mind off the groups ahead of you.
Fun Course to Play
I enjoyed my round at Red Gate. The fairways and greens were in good shape. The greens rolled true. It is a thinking golfers course. You just don't gripe and rip it on this course. That is what makes this course fun to play.
Excellent condition.
Green condition and slope are pretty much challengable. And fairway courses are very stratege needed. The only inconvenient thing is cart road that needed repair.
Nice course, slow play.
Nice course but they need to push people to pick up the pace.
Decent muni choice
The course was in better shape than I expected, I read some of the other reviews and was pleased with the conditions. Some minor airation issues on the greens but that will take care of itself. I talked to the staff and understand that it has come a long way from what it was. Some of the uphill and downhill lies and blind shots will challange the average golfer. Pace of play did get a little slow at times but nothing unusual for a muni course. Got a decent deal on golf.com
It was okay, but
There really wasn't much wrong with the course other than they only had one ranger and there were some, I would guess non-golfers ahead of us... who really were into heavy drinking rather than playing, as a result the waits were intolerable. The ranger did talk to this bunch of drinking players... but it kinda ruined the round for some of us.
Slow round, great public course
The course was nice, however, the tee boxes need some TLC. Nice big greens on each hole and rolled fast (Not so true because of recent aeration). I would recommend playing this course in the middle of the week. Easily a five hour round on weekends. Course should be in excellent shape come May and June.
Nice round
Nice round, but greens were still in recovery from aeration. Greens still were rolling quickly and most putts held their line. Good value, bring your own snacks, prices are ridiculous.
