Good value
It's a nice muni course at a convenient location. The layout is fair, but challenging enough I think.
Overbooked
Course was in good shape but due to recent severe weather there was damage and the course wasn't mowed as recently as it should have been. Staff was very friendly. Course was overrun and tee times were booked way too close together. We were not able to start play untl 35 minutes after our tee time.
A very fun little course
The front 9 is pretty short. I never had to hit driver off the tee. The back 9 was a little bit longer. All the greens were in very good shape. They were soft and rolled very true.
Nice green, horrible FW and rough
Here some reasons why I only played here twice this summer: slow pace, dry FW, rough full of rocks and dirts, horrible tee box. 80% of time you hit the rough, your ball wound likely end up on dirts or rocks. For par 3, I had to tee up 5 yards back since the tee boxes were all bad
Pros: Nice green, Challenging
Pace of Play is too slow
Positives: Greens are in decent shape, roll well, just a few minor hiccups. Staff is very friendly.
Negatives: Pace of play is VERY slow. This will be one of the longest rounds you play in the dc area. I played midday Sunday and it was a 5 1/2 hour round. Really basic lay out. No hole really stands out.
Overall: Don't pay more than $35-40 to play here. Clear up your calendar as well because it will likely be a 5+ hour round in prime time.
Pretty decent as a hot deal
The course was in good condition despite heavy rains earlier in the week. It was cart path only, which slowed down play, but was necessary given how wet the ground was. My only complaint is that there were no starters or marshals monitoring pace. It got backed up on the back 9.
All in all, it was a good value for a $30 hot deal 15-20 minutes from DC. I'll be back.
Painfully slow pace of play! 5 hours, 20 minutes
Pro's:
- Staff is friendly
- $29 round with cart
- Course in good condition (tee boxes, fairways, rough was fair, greens)
- Fairly narrow fairways make it a challenge
Con's:
- 5 hr, 20 min round was painful (Saturday, 3:40 tee time), barely got the round in before dark!
- Due to rain on Thur/Fri, cart path only (should have walked)
Good value for Money
The course is in great condition. The greens are in good condition. The pace of play was decent.
Fun course
great course for all levels of play, just challenging enough
Overall Great
Considering the location, price, condition, I loved playing at RedGate this past weekend!
Very good, very challenging course
I heard great things about this course and it didn't disappoint... especially for the $29 golfnow price.
It seemed like every hole had great character, unfortunately the first par 5's character happened to be two well placed ravines which resulted in a snowman on my card. I shoot mid-90s so this course is about as challenging as I'd like to play; there are a lot of dog legs, hills and blind shots. The tradeoff is if you put your drive in the fairway you won't need anything more than an 8-iron for your approach (my drive is only 240ish).
All in all- nice, fun course, especially if you have your accuracy attire on.
The worst thing about the course is getting to Rockville from DC/Nova.
Tricky but local
RedGate can be a very tricky course, there are a lot of elevation changes that can make club selection difficult. It's local for me and the "twilight" rates are great. If you are a fast player its definitely worth it.
Nice course, very slow play, no ranger to speed up play. Very nice greens.

Greens bumpy. Fairwys unkept
Course not in good condition. More like winter condition.
Must Play
Must play especially for the low rate, pricey at the normal rates. Pace of play was a little slow but manageable. Played this course one time about 6-7 years back and let me tell it has improved 100%! The course is in great condition, greens a fairways were in great shape at this early time of the season. It’s a challenging course, you really just can't bomb it but you have to hit your shots and if you miss it's easy to lose a stroke. Greens were really quick and I had a lot of three putts, my score was plus 8 from my normal score! I'll be back for sure, my playing partners really enjoyed themselves and said this could be Maryland's best kept secret? We'll see....
Highly recommend!
Great features/variety to the course but green on number 11 is chronically in near unplayable condition

Very challenging course especially narrowed fairways from racked leaves.
Rolling slopes with narrowed fairways from racked leaves and criss cross fairways challenge to place your balls accurately. Fairly maintained conditions considereing it is fall, a lot of leaves but they have been blown to each sides. The pace of play was less than ideal due to not being able to find balls easily from the leaves. Overall, it is not bad considereing it is the city owned municipal course.
Course is consistently maintained
Have played this course many times in the past and the course is normally consistently maintained and is generally always in good condition.
