Sandpiper at Spring Lake Golf Club
About
Spring Lake Golf Club offers 27 holes of championship golf located in the heart of Long Island. The two courses, the 18-hole Thunderbird and the nine-hole Sandpiper, may be different lengths but they are equally challenging. Don't underestimate the Sandpiper Course, this layout is more rigorous than what you would expect from a nine-hole layout. The course is situated alongside the club's namesake lake, offering beautiful views as well as a few water hazards. The round begins with its signature hole. This risk-reward par 5 is dotted with multiple lakes and the green has water to the right and back and bunkers to the left. There are many ways to approach this hole, you can play it safe or take a risk and try going for the green in two.

Very good course. Unconcerned staff.
Course conditions are very very good. Pro shop staff however has had a poor reputation for customer concern for many years. More than half a dozen different golfers I have met have told me of their dissatisfaction with staff treatment.
Bring your confirmation #
Booked tee times for $45 per player. When we got to the course they said it would be $58 per player. Advised we booked on line at golfnow for $45 and showed them te confirmation # and print out. A mgr came out and again said it was $58 ,I told we would not pay for $58, he then said I guess I'll give to you for $45, and then said "you should thank me ". I asked why when that was the price we booked it for. He continued to be a bit of a wise guy after that. Don't go there, go to nearby Rock Hill, Swan Lake, Pine Hills, nicer courses and friendlier staff
Excellent layout
Park like setting on Long Island. Course is well maintained and has some interesting holes. A good choice for the intermediate player. We got out just before a Golf Channel outing and played in 4.5-4.75 hours.
If only the staff cared......
I had a 6:20am tee time. Arrived at course at 6am and proceeded to pro shop, only to find out from starter that pro shop doesn't open until 6:30am. Someone explain to me how you book 6:20am tee times and "open" at 6:30am! In addition, the starter let a single go out before the shop opened because he needed to be somewhere. Don't we all? Once open, the women behind the counter was just plain rude.
If the staff was half as nice as the course layout and condition, this would always be a must play. Once we teed off, we played in under 4 hours. It is a must to play early, as we walked off 18, there were 3 groups waiting to tee of on 1st tee.
I recommend this course because of the layout and conditions and NOT because of the staff.
