Unmown fairway at Somers Pointe West! Photo submitted by Natmare on 07/05/2013
Grass of fairway were all dried and clay ground almost all.
Condition of greens were maintained well but fairways were horrible. All grass on the fairway were dried and deadly looking.all above places on the fairways.
I believe this summer was remaining very high temperatures and they was not able to take care all fairways with spring cooler by local restriction or budgets.
There used to be nice condition and to maintain well.
I’m not going to come this course again even though GN deals nice low price for golfing. Maybe I’ll try next year.
I felt that I was playing golf in some desert area such as Texas dried link course.
Hope that good take care of courses for future customers.
Burnt
Fairways are burnt to a crisp! Very hard to keep balls in play u less you think of it as a links course overseas and play very, very controlled golf. Greens were ok. I guess late on Sunday afternoon they are very short staffed. No starter or ranger.
No irrigation system, the parking lot was softer. Every Tee shot bounced out of bounds for a penalty
One and done.
Layout was awful. Many shots looked great and would rocket sideways into the woods. Burnt to a crisp.
Should be refundrd
They charge for green fees but it's clear they don't use that money towards upkeep. Its been extremely hot the past month but it looks like the entire course hadn't been watered at all. Tee boxes and fairways were completely dry. Absolutely unacceptable for a "private course". $80 a round for those conditions is laughable.
Course Has a Chance
So Ive read a ton of reviews on this place, lately a lot of negatives, HOWEVER considering the drought weve been in, Ill give them some credit for trying to keep the course as hydrated as possible.
The course condition is a bit below average but again with some care it can be above. The fairways are spotted with burnouts and the tee boxes need some SERIOUS upkeep...please management handle this.
Also, this course is completely playable and the greens in very good shape.
FWIW: I played a twilight round with no one in front of me and no waiting....the rating would be lower truthfully if I were waiting around for players in front of me.
Thank you for this recommendation! We appreciate your understanding of us trying to care for the course under the recent weather conditions. We will take your feedback into consideration. We hope we can welcome you back for another game in the future.
Very poor condition
the course was in very poor condition. Some of the tee boxes were just sand, dirt and crab grass. The fairways are very narrow. With the fairways being rock hard, the ball runs off the fairway often. The greens were remarkably good compared to every other aspect. I t will be years before i consider playing this course again. I was extremely disappointed in its condition.
We appreciate you taking the time to provide us with this feedback. We hope we'll be able to welcome you back for another game in the future.
Solid course. Weird conditions.
Great course. Lots of elevation changes. Relatively short with many blind shots. Lots of irons off the tee but good opportunities to try and cut doglegs with driver. I will definitely go back.
Pace of play was ok but on the slow side 4.5hr round with the back taking the majority of the time.
One note. I’d never played the course before so I got there a bit early (11:10 for an 11:45 tee time). Parking is plentiful but it is a hike to the clubhouse. Got to the clubhouse no later than 11:20. The checkin process was smooth but took a few extra minutes due to a slow patron and a software issue. I was out by 11:30. I found my way to the first tee and waited for the starter who was up on the fairway. When he came back to the tee box he said the 11:45 group had already teed off and was on the green. It was 11:40. Another golfer was in the same boat and equally dumbfounded. We were told to skip #1 and jump to #2. It was all really weird and I am hoping situational.
Thank you for this recommendation! We're happy to hear how much you enjoyed our course. We look forward to welcoming you back soon for another great game!
Somers becomes another Drought Victim
Like area Muni course, add Somers to the list of drought addled Westchester golf courses.. Despite all the work that they put into the course last year, the drought has undone all that effort. The front 9 is in really tough shape and the hard tac fairway takes a mid fairway shot and throws it into the OB area. The back 9 is in better shape due to the shading but has its tough spots. Too bad. The 19th hole amenities continues to be amateur hour with unhappy employees and lackadaisical service,.
What happned to the Fairways ?
We used to love golf at this place. I was there 2 months ago and the course was in fantastic condition; lush fairways, great greens.
This time at least 40% or more of the fairways were in a burnt grass / dried out condition.
I hope they are able to remedy this; it was sad to see this otherwise great local course in this condition.
Thank you for taking the time to share your comments. We’re very disappointed to learn that we did not live up to your expectations. The course conditions are a direct impact of the drought conditions we’ve experienced throughout the summer. It is not due to the lack of attention of the maintenance staff. We're still waiting on that much needed rain. At Somers National, we heavily rely on mother nature to generate enough natural water to feed the ponds situated throughout the course.
During your recent round, you’ve probably noticed the extremely low water levels of the ponds. We are a course that relies on adequate rainfall and we are more vulnerable to damage during a drought. We’ve encountered a spell of dry weather that we haven’t seen in many many years. In cases like this, there isn’t much our superintendent and operations team can do other than try to keep primary playing areas, like the greens, healthy and wait for rain. When grasses are stressed by lack of water, they go into drought-induced dormancy where growth slows and the grass loses color. In most cases, the grass is not dead and will regain its color once rain returns.
We try to make every guest aware of the situation and conditions prior to their rounds. We've noted the conditions prominently on our website as well as the booking confirmation notes.
Again, we are sorry we did not provide a positive experience. We are looking forward to better weather conditions in a few weeks. We hope you will give us another opportunity. At any time, please feel free to contact us at info@somersnational.com or 914-342-3273.
