Conditions great, but took 5 hours
I’ll start by saying the course is in top tier condition. Fairways and greens are some of the best around. However, it took 5 hours to play and we had to skip the last hole!
My tee time was 9:45 for two of us. I pulled up to the tee box at 9:40, and there was 3 groups waiting to hit! It was my tee time and 3 groups were trying to go off. I sat on the first hole for 30 minutes before I got tee off. We got behind a foursome who would not let two of us pass through while nobody was in front of them. We were waiting 15 minutes between each shot.
This course could really use a starter. When my tee time is 9:45 and I pull up at 9:40, I don’t expect to wait 30 minutes to tee off. Would’ve also liked to have seen a Marshall or something similar to help with pace. No reason it should take 2 players 5 hours to play 17 holes.
Love this course! Haven’t played it for a while. Love the condition and layout!
Course has gone severely downhill
Made the trip to play from Cincinnati, go play Big Blue instead. I played with 2 friends who have played this course within the last year as well, and they both agreed that it is nowhere near close to what it used to be. From entering the parking lot, the course looks entirely unappealing. The clubhouse is run down, landscaping is overgrown and messy, and the course looks like it’s hardly manicured. To be fair, however, the gentleman working the desk mentioned they had an irrigation malfunction in the week prior, so the greens were patchy as a result. As someone who loves golf and works in golf construction though, it is sad that the said top public course in Lexington has gone in this direction.
Golf pro checking us in was abrupt, unfriendly and borderline rude.
Greens were great! Rough was very long and lost several balls just barely off the fairway.
Fun course layout
Was a solo and late and staff were great in getting me a cart. I paired up with another solo and had a good round. The course is exceptional for being a municipal. Lexington is very fortunate.
Beautiful course
Friends and I played this course on the way to PGA Championship. It is a beautiful course. Rolling fairways and greens were in great shape. Nice driving range and putting green. Staff was extremely friendly. Great value. This is a must play if you are in the Frankfort /Lexington area. A nice mix of easy and difficult holes. Challenging for any level of golfer.
Best course in the Play Golf Lexington group
It is usually in the best shape of the Lexington municipal courses. I enjoy the layout and it provides a fair test as long as you're playing the correct tees. It has a good practice facility with two putting greens, a pitching green with practice bunkers, and a fairly large grass tee on the range. I feel like they could squeeze a little 6 hole short course behind the 10th green and 11th tee box area, and it would make for a fun little practice area.
Best of Public Golf
Kearney Hill's is truly the best part of public golf. Plenty of Pete Dye's signature deceptions and railroad ties. Out of the plethora of public golf in and around Lexington Kearney Hill stands outs as the best. No place else I'd rather play.
Special layout
This is a great layout! If the city had the money to keep it in top condition, it could be a PGA tour stop. Not kidding. Anyway, had a great day with my son, and will be back.
