Course Layout
Some of the holes have narrow fairways. Some holes have houses very close to fairway. In hole #2 cannot see the pin or fairway due to the uphill nature after teeing off. We had some good Tee shots on that hole but lost our balls since the balls landed on the other side of the hill without knowing where it rolled. Also, LOTS of poison ivy.
Not Good
The course is in rough shape. The tee boxes did not have grass. The greens we plugged a couple of weeks ago, have not grown back in. The back greens were slightly better. The fairways were not in good shape.
No on course cart for drinks on a Sunday afternoon.
The staff was friendly, but not enough to overcome the course conditions.
NO WARNING of Airated Greens
The Golf Course failed to disclose the back 9 greens were being airated and that playing 18 would mean looping around and playing the same 9 which creates a log-jam even though the course was not overly crowded. Wasn't worth the price and hassle. The 9 holes played were airated a few days before and were firm. I wish they would blow these greens off every moring, there are these small spinny long leafs all over the greens and if you don't remove them, they will effect your path/roll of the golf ball. This was my home course a long time ago, I'll play it from time to time. Its a steady -eddy on maintenance . The course is okay, nothing stands out as progress for future improvements . I enjoy the short and challenging holes. Geese crap still plaques the fairways but not as much as last year. So big PLUS for Walden CC on that, if they had anything to do with it. Friendly staff and nice little bar area to have a drink afterwards. The 18th hole , which was not available for play, it still a fun finishing hole. Maybe next time.
Great course, great value
Some holes did not drain well after rain, but overall course was in great shape.
Good condition for the time of year.
Plenty of grass for early spring. Greens were fair for speed. Good value for your golfing bucks. Narrow course so you have to keep it in play.
Walden Country Club
The course was nice. The course layout had much to be desired. Overall, I liked it
A true "Has Been" Course
Back in the day this course was very nice and well maintained. I was told it was private in the past and when it went public it completely fell off. Then another educated golfer told me the front 9 was an old course and they added to it. Either way, it is now a poorly maintained course that should have costed half of what I paid to play it. Front to back, the tee-boxes were either overgrown with weeds or pure dirt. The fairways on the front 9 were narrow due to lack of OOB maintenance. The back 9 fairways were better and cleaner. The bunkers were very fluffy only due to old sand and dirt mixture. The greens were a horror show. Not a single clean roll all day and it appears that very few people give a care to fix their on green divots. Carts were dirty but worked, club house was old and needed work. Saw very few staff and it was a SUNDAY. Also, saw very few players on the course so I assume it just is not on the top of anyone's play list. I was disappointed and a fairly embarrassed for the management team of Walden. This course should consider replacing folks in their management team that are not getting the job done. I met a manager when there that should be on the short list.
Not Worth Full Price
I have played this course many times before as it was always reasonably priced and the course was kept in good condition and easy to get on. But boy has this course gone way down hill. When I went to the pro shop I was told I was "lucky" and that GolfNow screwed up their prices for the day. Since I was not aware of any difference in price I asked how much the course should have been and the gentleman replied 60$... I honestly could not believe it. No way in even the prime season would I imagine paying more than the 35$ I paid today to play. I honestly was surprised it was 35$ being its still winter season and the grounds are less then passable for prime play. The biggest issues I had with the course was it was VERY poorly maintained. On hole #1 there were extremely deep and wide tire tracks from I can only imagine some maintenance vehicles ripping the grounds as shown in the pictures. Along with this huge blunder almost every green had missing grass and had humongous divots in them. I will honestly cross this course off any upcoming golf outings and highly suggest going to any other cheaper option out there that actually is worth the money spent
It is what it is
It's a public country club. What do you expect to get from that? With all of that said, it's even cheaper than the county courses. Is it the best maintain course no. But neither are any of the other public courses in the area that charge twice as much. The staff was nice. The accommodations were fine. At the $10 discount from golfnow it was $21 to play 18 with a cart. At that price I don't care as long as you have a tee box and a green. People were expecting this to be some kind of resort style country club and I don't understand that when you're paying $30 to play 18. Go here if you want a cheap simple round. There's not a lot of public options in Anne Arundel county and if you do find them they're going to be 2 to 3 times more expensive. Go play Eisenhower at $90 if for 18. Where the greens and tee boxes are in just as bad of shape. The pace of play is horrendous, all the while being a public course in the county funded by county residents. No thanks
Challenging
ThisThis course poses quite a challenge with its narrow layout. Despite the less-than-ideal weather conditions on a cool and breezy 45-degree day, we managed to make the most of it and had a truly remarkable experience. It's worth noting that Hole 18, a Par 5, is strategically guarded by a total of 4 to 5 bunkers. The overall conditions of the course have been consistently impressive.
