About
I have had the great fortune of playing over 360 courses around the country, mainly in locations I have lived, New England, the Carolinas and Florida. I have also made golf trips to Arizona, Hawaii, Virginia, Alabama, California and New York. I spent time as a Tournament Director, putting on NCAA golf national championships in Central Florida as well as college invitationals with Notre Dame, St. John's and the Hooter's Matchplay. I worked the Tavistock Cup and the UCF Invitational at Isleworth as well. I have made friends for life on the golf course and for that I'm thankful to the game.
If I'm going to give a course five stars it better be on the level of Bethpage Black, Pinehurst #2, The Ocean Course at Kiawah, Harbour Town and Kapalua as those are the best I have played to date.

Disney's Palm Golf Course
Played On 10/23/2016The best of what Disney has to offer
The Palms course is one of my favorite courses in central Florida and though I haven't played it in 4-5 years it continues to be fantastic. From the staff to the layout to the condition, the Palms course is really top notch. Tree lined fairway, forced carries and tough quick greens make for a true test of golf. I would highly recommend you put this course in your itinerary for your next Orlando buddies trip. Don't miss out on great Disney customer service and a really fine test of golf.
Olde Barnstable Fairgrounds Golf Club
Played On 10/17/2016I forgot how good this course was
I have not played this course in years and I really forgot how good a course it really is. The course was in amazing shape, condition wise I thought I was playing a top course in the Carolinas. The layout is challenging with most holes being tree lined with thick brush on some holes. The greens were quick but not crazy fast and the fairways were in perfect condition. The driving range is serviceable and includes a chipping green. The practice green is next to the first tee and is in great shape and more importantly it is a true depiction of what the greens on the course are like as far as pace goes. I would highly recommend this course to anyone putting together a golf trip to Cape Cod along with The Cape Club and The Captains for starters.
Captains Golf Course - Starboard
Played On 10/16/2016Great layout and in good condition
For years The Captains complex was rated as one of the top in the state and it lived up to that billing today. The layout is fantastic with elevation changes and well bunkered fairways. The greens were in good shape and lightning fast which was shocking because they held most approach shots. The tee boxes were in excellent condition as well. I would highly recommend you add this course to your Cape Cod itinerary.
Crestwood Country Club
Played On 09/22/2016New England private course with great layout and tough rough
Though Crestwood is short by today's standards the course plays much longer if you're not in the fairway with every shot. The rough is so high that finding your ball is an adventure then getting it back in the fairway is one as well. The layout is fantastic with trouble, bunkers and water hazards in most landing areas. The greens were fantastic and rolled true on every hole. If you get the chance to play this course I would highly recommend you do so.
Fox Hopyard Golf Club
Played On 09/13/2016A good course in tough shape
After a tough summer here in New England I certainly understand the trials and tribulations of running a golf course with hot weather and no rain all summer. I will start off by saying the layout is solid at Fox Hopyard, elevation changes, water features and thick rough make for an enjoyable and challenging round of golf. The course itself was in tough shape with a lot of issues on the greens especially. the fairways were fine but if you missed a green or a fairway you were possibly going to be hitting off of some difficult hardpan. I would recommend you give this course a little time to recover from this horrific summer. Lastly, if you are anyone but a local be ready for a tough right to get there. There really is no easy way to get to the course and the town, we went down from Boston and the ride took almost 2 hours because of all of the backroads we had to navigate.
Olde Scotland Links at Bridgewater
Played On 08/28/2016Slightly above avg course for Massachusetts
I never review courses based on conditions due to the weather but with the tremendous drought we are having here in Massachusetts this course is holding up fairly well. We have not had a real rain in this ares in weeks if not months but Olde Scotland has kept the tees and greens in really good shape. The layout is interesting with very few trees coming into play but fescue grass everwhere just off the fairways. Play smart and play the right tees for you and you will have a fun day for not a lot of money.
The Cape Club
Played On 08/07/2016With some wirk it will be very good
Had the chance today to play the new Cape Club, formally Ballymeade in Falmouth. The improvements were seen right out of the gate with a new range directly behind the clubhouse and the first hole being the old range. You can tell that Troon put their money into the front nine first as that side is much nicer than the back. The layout has some improvements, most noticeable, the bunkers which were a beautiful white. The course certainly needs a little work on the backside but it is still 100 times better than it was in the past. A few things for them to take a look at are maybe signs directing you to the bag drop, a starter with a radio so he knows everyone's tee times and maybe some sand boxes at the tees on par 3's to fill in divots. My playing partners and I all said the same thing "in a year this course will be one of the top in the state."
Don't stop improving this course Troon you are certainly going in the right direction.
Hyannis Golf Club
Played On 08/05/2016A pleasant surprise on The Cape
Playing this course for the first time was a pleasant surprise and really outdid my expectations. The layout is fantastic, especially for a course that you can tell they had very little land to work with. The course was in fantastic condition from tees to fairways to greens. The only negative were the bunkers which could use a little "de-rocking". Elevation changes and bunkers are the name of the game on this course and also make sure you club yourself correctly because remember you are at sea level. This was a Tpp 100 course played by us and it was really a nice surprise to find that out as it gives Cape Cod another stop on our endless journey of playing golf.
Ballyowen Golf Club
Played On 07/29/2016Half Tobacco Road half Miaconmet makes for a tough day
Let me start by saying that I agree with everyone who says pace of play here is horrible. We waited on every tee on a Friday midday. The layout was fantastic though with few trees and some water but fescue everywhere. You have to stay on the short grass or you're in jail. The greens were quick but like most resort course a little torn up by non caring players. This is a top 50 course in my book and a good challenge of golf.
Franklin Country Club
Played On 07/18/2016Private New. England golf at its best
We got to play Franklin Country Club during the tournament put on by the Massachusetts Golf Association. There are a lot of gods things to say about this course including the layout, the condition of the tees and fairways which were phenomenal and the greens were some of the fastest I've ever putted on in New England. The main feature of this course is that it is incredibly hilly and you will very rarely get a flat lie. You also have a lot of blind shocks, especially off a tees. With this being a private course it is a little tough for me to "recommend" it because not many will be able to play it. But if you do get an invite from a member or have the chance to play in a tournament here I would certainly say go for it.
Red Tail Golf Club
Played On 07/10/2016Great layout but a little inconsistent
Certainly a top 10 public course in the state of Massachusetts based on layout alone. But today the course was a little inconsistent. The greens were slow, fast, slow, fast and the bunkers went from soft sand to hard pan from hole to hole. The staff was pleasant, especially the person in the tent at the turn. I will certainly play this course again but for today's trip to Red Tail the course was not up to its usual standards.
Falmouth Country Club - Eighteen Hole Course
Played On 07/01/2016A nice, average course on Cape Cod
If you're looking for an good course to play on Cape Cod this course is for you. Of the courses I have played on The Cape this one falls right in the middle. It's not great like Olde Barnstable but it's not awful like Sandwich Hollows. The course was in good shape as far as the tees, fairways and greens go but anything off the expensive grass is average at best. The course is fairly wide open and will allow you to make a few mistakes off the tee. If you're in the area and just looking for an easygoing no frills round of golf Falmouth Country Club is for you.
The Links at Stono Ferry
Played On 06/01/2016Nice little town golf course
We enjoyed the hospitality at Stono Ferry especially from the restaurant workers and the starter who really helped us get off early to make sure we got to the airport early for our flight home. As for the course it was in good condition and the view from the 14th tee was worth the trip. The layout is interesting and a lot of the fairways seem to get more generous the further you hit the ball I.e. The 15th hole a hard dogleg left that visually looks intimidating off the tee with a tight looking shot but when you get to the fairway you see it is wide open. Beware of the trees that lean over the first cut and fairways as they will grab your ball and throw it back.
The Ocean Course at Kiawah Island Golf Resort
Played On 05/31/2016The best of the best
After playing almost 300 courses in my life and playing the ocean course 24 years ago and again today it is the best course I have ever played. The layout, the condition and the staff are all phenomenal. It is an amazing experience to play this course but make sure you play it from the tees that suite your game. The practice area is awesome the views are amazing and even the Ryder Cup Bar is the best 19th hole I have ever been to. If you're a true fan of the game and want to play the best of the best add The Ocean Course to your bucket list
Patriots Point Golf Links
Played On 05/30/2016The views are the only thing worth the trip
How sad that this course has lost almost every green on the course, most were to the point of being unputtable. The rest of the course was no more than a muni course at best. The views of the harbor area and the bridge are phenomenal but that's about it, bring your camera and leave your clubs at home.
Harbour Town Golf Links at Sea Pines Resort
Played On 05/29/2016What a fantastic experience
It was kind of a last minute decision to play here due to weather and wow did we make the right decision. They treat you as a one day member when you book a tee time including use of the locker room. Pro V1s on the range add to the experience as do the fore caddies. The layout is phenomenal as is the condition of the course. This is a must play if you visit HHi and in the summer make sure you call the pro shop to get the afternoon discount.
Cougar Point at Kiawah Island Golf Resort
Played On 05/28/2016Almost perfect, almost
We had the unique opportunity to play Cougar Point during tropical storm Bonnie and as you could imagine we had the course to ourselves. I will say that the course handling the water in amazong fashion. Other than a couple of spots on the greens late in the round this course took the 2-3 inches of rain like a champ. As for the course itself, last time we played it was in the 90's when it was Marsh Point and the changes to the course are fantastic. There are a lot more houses on the course now but they are well hidden by the trees and brush along the course. The one thing to be away of though is the vast amount of OB on the course, I felt like there were white stakes everywhere on this course which obviously changed my thought process playing this course and took the driver out of my hands more than once. The course conditions were A- to B+ with the draw back being some damage to a few of the greens but the tee boxes and fairways were perfect. The price, which I understand is the standard non-Ocean Course pricing for the island, is a little high for this course considering it's more than we are going to pay to say as we trek down to HHi to play Harbour Town but the experience, even playing it in a tropical storm, was a lot of fun.
The Brookside Club
Played On 05/21/2016A solid course with fantastic scenery and elevation changes
As the first course you hit once you come over the Bourne Bridge on to Cape Cod, the Brookside Club is all about scenery, location and elevation changes. The course is a little short playing only 6300 yards from the tips but with water features, elevation changes and doglegs it makes for an interesting round of golf. Condition-wise the course was in very good shape and I would recommend it as a stop on your Cape Cod golf trip. The club also has a fantastic restaurant and a sunset view that can't be beat.
The New England Country Club
Played On 05/10/2016Great layout, great value
Hale Irwin Who did it right when he designed the New England country club. With tremendous elevation changes, scenery and forced carries this course is a really good experience. I know it's early in the season but the course was not in the best of shape, the tee boxes were fairly chewed up and the greens, though aerated, were in tough shape. Hopefully as the year goes along the course will grow into its own as it is a really nice layout and a good challenge of golf.
Disney's Lake Buena Vista Golf Course
Played On 03/16/2016What a let down
As with everything Disney, I went into the playing of this round with high expectations but wow was I let down. Right from the get go my experience at LBV was a tremendous letdown. I went into the clubhouse to pay and after that I headed out back to my cart only to find out there that range balls were not included. I had to make my way back into the pro shop and stand in line for another 10 minutes just to pay for range balls. After the range I headed to the first tee for, ten minutes early for my time. Playing as a single, I was told by the pro shop that there were three more with me. The started informed me at the tee that two of them went off the back and no one knew where the other person was. I watched a twosome go off for the tee time in front of me and my telling the starter that I was tight on time and had a plane to catch did not urge him to put me with the twosome. Instead, I went off late because he wanted to put me with the three people who had the time after mine. This greatly slowed down my round and I left the other three on the 15th tee and went on alone as we had fallen so far behind the twosome I never caught them on the last three holes playing as a single. As for the condition of the course, that too was a tremendous letdown with chewed up tee boxes, burnt our fairways and sanded spots on several of the greens. Luckily, I went through GolfNow and got a discount that was intune with the course conditions. If I was someone who paid over $100 to play today, I would have been outraged. In it’s current state I would not recommend this course to anyone who wants to play a premier course in the Orlando area, there are too many other great courses such as Orange County National, Grand Cypress, Waldorf Astoria, Reunion and others that you can play for about the same price and get a much better experience. Sadly, this was the last Disney course I needed to play to finish the WDW trifecta and I honestly wish I had never played it.

BostonGolfTraveler,
Thanks for your review. We're glad that you enjoyed some of our fantastic views, we love them too! We do apologize for the conditions and are sorry that you didn't get to experience our course at its best. Charleston experienced extreme flooding in late 2015, and as a results our greens have not come back to expected in season playing conditions. The grass is slowly growing back, but there is currently very little grass on most greens. We are working on addressing these conditions and are doing everything we can to return the greens to the condition we would expect. Our rates are discounted and reflective of our conditions. Our normal seasonal rates are $69 weekdays and $89 weekend.
If you would like to discuss this further, please email me directly at bparker@patriotspointlinks.com. Thanks and I look forward to hearing from you.
