Willow Valley Golf Course
Played On 10/05/2020Fall delight
Always a great time at Willow. Did notice 16th fairway in rough shape compared to the rest of the course. Greens quick as usual. Staff great. Excellent Covid precautions.
Cardinal Lakes Golf Club - Sparrow Course

Always enjoy a fair price round at Cardinal Lake Sparrow course. Pace and f play good at 4 hours. Course in pretty good shape. Men’s washroom in clubhouse in bad shape. Staff friendly.
Willow Valley Golf Course
Played On 08/31/2020Best course in Hamilton area
Always a great day when playing golf at Willow Valley. This course is second to nobody when it comes to cart cleanliness and Covid protection. Today’s round was just like most rounds here. Pace of play is 4 hrs with this 10 minute tee times. Entire golf course is pretty good from tee to green. Greens had some minor issues early in the season, but now in very good shape along with quickness. Marshall’s make their rounds as well as the cart girl. Looking forward to my next round at Willow Valley.
Rockway Vineyards Golf Course
Played On 08/29/2020Always enjoy this course
Pace of play seemed slow, because we waited on the tee at most holes. Actually in the end, I couldn’t believe that we were done in 4 hours. The fairways and greens were in very good shape. The tee blocks were good, better than most courses at present time. The traps were in pretty good shape, would expect them in great shape once we can use rakes, but overall quite good. Always enjoy playing here, especially if you manage a sweet deal with GolfNow. The staff are great. Greens are basically average speed. Can’t wait to play here again.
Otter Creek Golf Club
Played On 08/27/2020Just as expected, glad I played
This is my first time playing here and I definitely will return. I heard about this course many years ago. It’s 75 min drive has been my reason. I should have played along time ago. For the price, it is an excellent course. Greens were in very good shape. Knowing the layout i would play it differently next time. Only set back is we had a slow group in front of us and we never saw a Marshall. Cart girl was frequent, bonus!
Port Dover Golf Club
Played On 08/20/2020Better than expected
Wasn't too sure what to think when I booked the round, but I was pleasantly pleased with the golf course. Course was in good shape. Only a few traps but they were good quality. Not a long course, but the pin position on the greens made it tough.. Some steep sloped greens made putting a challenge. Good value for your money and would definitely play again if returning to the area. Had a 50% sale a golf caps, so that was a bonus too. For those worried about their Covid-19 standards, there are signs posted throughout the course suggesting to keep social distancing, Must wear mask in the pro shop/cafeteria or washroom building. Carts were being cleaned, but they do not have a divider between the passengers. Was okay with me, as I was golfing with my wife.
MontHill Golf and Country Club - Blue/Gold Course
Played On 08/07/2020Great Value
Well I haven’t played here in many years. Course has improved. Clubhouse spectacular. Staff excellent. Carts have touch screen GPS, excellent. Tee blocks a little rough, sand traps very good, greens soft and slow, fairways pretty good. Layout is okay, too many strong doglegs, but overall my wife and I enjoyed the course. Couldn’t beat the GolfNow rate and ease in Pro Shop. No static at all from staff, some courses have issues when using GolfNow. Definitely will return with others. Pace of play was under 3-1/2 hours.
MontHill Golf and Country Club - Blue/Gold Course
Played On 08/07/2020Great Day at Monthill
Let me start by saying the staff were excellent and compassionate to our almost late tee time. I didn’t realize the difficulty at trying to get to the south side of Caledonia. I was expecting to arrive 35-40 min early, but hit blocked roads twice before I eventually found access by travelling 10-15 km east of town. Regardless, starter said we were up and quickly we teed off on Red. Had great success passing two foursomes on that 9 and finished front 9 in just under 1-/2 hrs. The starter then asked us if we wanted to move to Blue versus Gold due to 3 group back up at tee. We agreed, but the Blue course was also backed up, once we got to the third hole. Pace on back was about 2-1/4 hrs. All in all, quick 18. Let’s talk about the course, the tee blocks were pretty beat up, the greens were in good shape but recently aerated, the fairways and traps were in pretty good shape. Back to the carts. They appeared nice and clean, but no shields separating the two golfers. In my case it was fine, as I was golfing with my wife. Thought it odd, didn’t know there are changes, but didn’t ask anyone. They have GPS and scoring (this is great) Price through GolfNow was excellent. Definitely go back. Hadn’t golfed here in over 15 years.
King's Forest Golf Course
Played On 07/29/2020Local Course still a Fan Favourite
First time playing here in many years. The staff were very pleasant upon arrival. We played late morning and the pace of play was very good. Completed in just under 4 hours. The only thing that I truly disliked was the tee boxes. I found them to be in rough shape. The fairways were in good shape considering all the heat we have been having, the rough was fairly dry, the traps were in pretty good shape (accept for the green side bunker on #2) and finally the greens were in good shape, just slow to me. Course layout is excellent with both left and right doglegs. Definitely a course we will return to.
Willow Valley Golf Course
Played On 07/27/2020Still a great course
Even in all of this heat, course management is doing as good as they can to keep this course in great shape. They are watering every day, yet the fairways are struggling to stay green. Having said that, the greens are in pretty good shape. The pace of play was excellent this week, playing at 3-1/2 hours. Speed of greens probably getting up to 10 or so. Still one of the best courses in the area, a must play.
Willow Valley Golf Course
Played On 07/13/2020Course getting in very good shape
Maintenance out on the course looking after the fairways, tee blocks and greens. Greens are starting to get back to last years quality. Some aeration took place on Monday, but again it’s a step to improve them and get the speed up like last season. What keeps this course the most challenging, is the rough around the greens. Your approach needs to be accurate, as the trouble really begins with those delicate chips out of the green side rough. Followed by their fast greens. Pace of play is quite good, thanks in part to the starter keeping the separation at 10 minute intervals. Played in less than 4 hrs. Good job to Willow Valley and their supporting staff.
Southbrook Golf and Country Club
Played On 07/09/2020Nice early round
Pace of play was pretty good at just under 4 hrs. We started at 6:30 am. Nobody pushing us and we waited a couple of times during the round. No big deal. Course is very dry, but it’s been very hot for a few weeks. Most courses in the same boat. Tee blocks could use some work. They are using the hook on the pin to lift the balls out of the cups. Minimal traps and nobody in our group played out of them to comment on quality. All in all we paid $58 with cart. Will probably be back once this heat wave leaves our area.
Willow Valley Golf Course
Played On 07/06/2020Hot, Hot and Hot
We played early morning, but it was still a very hot, humid day. Course is improving from earlier in the year. The rough is drying spots, but what can you expect with no rain in quite some time. The fairways, tee blocks and greens are in very good shape. Plenty of watering going on there. Greens are starting to reach 2019 speed (fast), not there yet. Always a pleasure to play here. We completed our round just over 3-1/2 hours (really good speed for a foursome).
Sawmill Golf Course
Played On 06/26/2020Course in good shape
First time out here this year. Never have a problem playing here. The fairways, greens and tee blocks all in good shape. The sand traps were okay, but with no rakes, my group decided to free lift behind them, rather than play out of them. Didn’t matter to me as I rarely land in them anyway. Today, I had 1 lift out on hole 6. Pace of play was a little slow to start. Our tee time mid day was 20+ minutes delayed and we started on hole 10. It took 2 hrs and 20 minutes to play that 9. Good news is the front nine was completed in about 1 hour 50 minutes, so we were about 4 hrs and 10 minutes for 18 holes. All good. Didn’t see a cart girl, but picked up beverages and snacks at the turn. Will be back.
Willow Valley Golf Course
Played On 06/22/2020Speed of greens improving
Still one of the best courses in the Greater Hamilton area. Greens are starting to get some speed to them. Not like last year, where they were very fast. All in all, the course is in good shape (still the greens are burnt in some locations) What makes this course tough is the rough around the greens. If the pin is close to you when taking a wedge chip from 1-4 yds off the green, the fear of getting your club caught in the grade of the grass is very real. Pressure is not the same if the pin is middle of green or far end. The dense near fringe grass can cause you multiple strokes if not played correctly. This is what I personally enjoy about the course. Once the greens pick up speed, it gets even tougher. Pace of play was good, could be better, as some groups feel they paid the same and are entitled to go where they want with the carts and take 4-1/2 hours to play. Regardless if they are 2 holes behind after 12 holes and just over 3 holes behind after 18. That’s my frustration. Could have been a 3-3/4 hr round, instead about 4 hr 20 min.
Willow Valley Golf Course
Played On 06/15/2020Greens need help
This is one of my favourite courses to play. As the season started I was pleased to see they were adding a new sand in their traps. Definite improvement over past 2 years. Unfortunately it appears they may have poorly applied fertilizer to the greens and fairways. Could be lack of water, but I am no expert. Weeds are starting to appear in the fairways and the greens are in my opinion burnt. I am sure they will get this sorted out soon. All in all the layout is good. The pace of play is great and hope they stay with 10 min tee times.
Willow Valley Golf Course
Played On 06/08/2020Always a Pleasure
Greens not at 100% yet, but improving. Starting to get some speed, but some greens are patchy. 10 minute tee times keeps the flow moving well. Pace of play ranges between 3 hours 45 minutes to 4 hours 15 minutes based on when you play during the day. No more backups at certain holes, specifically 2-3 and 13-14. Fairways, rough and even the sand traps are in very good shape. Staff always pleasant here and club is always making improvements to the facility. Great job!!
Galleon/Brigantine at Shipyard Golf Club
Played On 03/12/2020Brigantine/Galleon an Improvement
Today had the opportunity to play Brigantine. This 9 hole is in much better shape than the Clipper and Galleon. Truthfully all the fairways on the 3 courses need to be in better shape, but the Brigantine is in much better shape. At least there was only the 1st hole which was muddy and wet. The tee blocks need work too. The sand traps were in pretty good shape on Brigantine, the other two need work and sand. There is work being done along some of the fairways. Greens would score high for speed, but low for quality. Today’s starter is one of the best on the island. Staff friendly. Unfortunately the overall conditions of the course do not justify the cost. Hope they improve, as I have always enjoyed the layout of this course.
Galleon/Brigantine at Shipyard Golf Club
Played On 03/10/2020Poor Conditions at Shipyard in many years.
Seems to be a pattern to most to all public courses this year. First off they are consistently $10-15 more than last year. The tee blocks are uneven and in poor condition. The fairways are either very wet or they are just plainly in rough shape. The greens are not too bad, they have speed, but they are bumpy. The sand traps are hit and miss. Some have nice sand while others appear okay, but are very hard under the 1/2” of sand. Even was tearing up the underlay taking shots out of sand. Hard to believe they are charging these fees when they are in such disarray. There starter was friendly (he’s been there for years), but the Marshall’s not so much. Specifically the moody guy between the 2 nine’s. He was more interested in the gator’s.
Golden Bear Golf Club at Indigo Run
Played On 03/08/2020Another good day on the course
Sunday was a good day on the course. The tee blocks are in fairly good condition. The fairways here are much better than the others we have recently played. The greens were in pretty good shape on most holes. The sand traps were okay. Didn’t see any eagles on 10th hole this year. Didn’t see a Marshall but the pace of play was average at about 4 hrs 15 min. Starter and staff very nice. Seems price in 2020 has increased $10-15 everywhere. Only wish conditions would improve to justify increase fee.
Awesome! We appreciate you taking the time to review the course and rate us. Thank you for the 4 stars! We aim for a 5-star experience, so we always welcome feedback for improvement. Thank you for playing Golden Bear Golf Club at Indigo Run.
Dear Orangutanmike,
Firstly I would like to sincerely apologize for your poor experience with us and one of our staff, great customer service is something we pride ourselves on and our marshal's let us down.
Secondly the winter was a rough one for the entire Island, after a couple weeks of warm and dry days the golf course will be back to peak condition.
We would greatly appreciate a second chance from you as our guest, just contact Ben Smith at bsmith@heritagegolfgroup.com
