Pinecrest Golf Club
Played On 04/04/2016Best Greens in the Area
On a positive note, I have played at 14 golf courses recently and Pinecrest has the best greens by far. This course is challenging yet still manageable for the average or higher handicapper golfers. Although there is a lot of water and the greens are protected well by traps, many can be avoided by positioning yourself for your approach shots. I loved it from the blue tee blocks, but if I return this year I would try the black. Unfortunately there were only portapotties (Johnny on the spot) out on the course which would not be to appealing to most woman. The clubhouse, driving range and practice areas were nice. Yes, I would recommend this course to all of my friends.
Island West Golf Club
Played On 03/11/2016Woman and high handicappers will enjoy this course
The course is shorter than most in the Hilton Head area. There are challenging holes for the low handicappers hitting from the back tee's, but with the selection of tee blocks, high handicappers will find the course to be friendly. There are a few fescue areas to crossover on the par 4's and 5's and a couple par 3's cross over a pond. other than that, high handicappers can get from tee to green fairly easy with little to no obstructions. The traps are well cared for and the greens were in better shape than most off island courses. The pace of play was amazing as we were able to get around as a twosome in 2 hours 40 minutes. Keep in mind, we did start just before 8:00 am. The 16th hole (I think) was a 613 yard par 5 from the back tee block. Now that is a very challenging par!!
Arthur Hills at Palmetto Hall Plantation
Played On 03/09/2016Fun in the Sun!!
Pace of play was around 4 hrs 15 min. Lots of water and traps. Multiple tee blocks to allow the high handicappers an opportunity to score well. Yet challenging for the mid tool handicappers. Course condition and layout was very good.
Crescent Pointe Golf Club
Played On 03/07/2016Lots of traps
Course was a very good shape. I loved the amount of traps and water on the course, but for high handicap golfers (whom were playing with me), they found the course very challenging. There are not a lot of places to position yourself for a clear approach to the greens for high handicappers. Water crosses the fairway on several holes. Pace of play was just over 4 hours. Good value for your money.
Old South Golf Links
Played On 03/04/2016Tough course with small greens
Pace of play was good at 4 hrs and 15 min. Marshall's patrolled the course which helps to control pace of play. Nice clubhouse and the facilities on the course were in good shape. Played with high handicappers who felt the course was very challenging. Many greens elevated and smaller than usual. Pretty good condition for the start of March. For new players to this course, watch for two holes with 90 degree fairways which you must shoot over the marsh areas for your approach shots. Tee's are marked well with yardage required to prepare you for your next shot. Good luck :)
Rose Hill Golf Club
Played On 02/29/2016The Price is Right!!!
Usually can get a good deal and you won't find too many others for the price. Course not too bad of shape for the end of February. Pace of play was about 4 hrs 15 minutes.
Golden Bear Golf Club at Indigo Run
Played On 03/04/2015Love to play here annually
Unfortunately the pace of play this day was slow. Turns out there was a group, about 5 groups ahead of us, who were videoing their game or scenery. The Marshall finally caught them on the 13th hole and said the pace would pick up in a couple of holes, we were on 11. The pace never changed. Regardless, the course was in pretty good shape and we still had a good time. It took about 4:45 minutes to play that day. Don't forget to check out the eagle and its nest located high in the trees to the left of the 10th green.
Windermere Country Club
Played On 02/24/2015Nice course at a reasonable price
The pace of play was what I would expect, probably close to 4 hrs 20 min. We used GolfNow and booked the same day. We were paired up with another couple and had a good time. The course was in pretty good shape (both the fairways and greens). We had a light rain for more than half the round, but still an enjoyable day.
Glad you and your partner enjoyed yourself even though it rained half your round. Come back soon when the weather is better!
Rose Hill Golf Club
Played On 3/18/2013Well maintained course
Can't beat the price through Golf Now. Pace of play was excellent. Even had $1 draft beer after the round. Chicken fingers and fries were very good. Staff cheerful and friendly.
Eagle's Pointe Golf Club
Played On 11/11/2012Lateral water hazards makes it not too bad a course for higher handicappers
I have played this course each year I come to the Hilton Head Island area. It is in pretty good shape. I would suggest that you play this course either from the blue or gold tee's if your handicap is 12 or under. It is not a long course, but the pin placements make for challenging approach shots. My only grief was it took 5 hours to play, so the pace was slow.
Hilton Head National Golf Club
Played On 11/8/2012Lots of sand traps, if you miss the fairways!
Challenging, but low handicappers need to play the back tee's. If you play from the white's you won't need any mid to long irons. Speed of play was average at best, just about 4-1/2 hours.
Hi "Orangutanmike"Thank you so much for taking the time to review our course. It sounds like you had a lot of fun today and we appreciate the great advice for our other guests. Hope to see you again next year!
