Timber Creek Golf Course - Lakes/Oaks
Played On 12/21/2017Great Course
This is probably the best course in the area. I try and play this course at least once a month as I like to play different courses. I got a great deal on Golfnow, 18 holes and a cart for $25. This course has a little of everything, water, forced carries and lots of traps. The traps have sand, greens were in great shape (just wish that players would fix their divots) and the fairways were in great shape with lots of run to them. Great practice facilities and the restaurant and bar are excellent. The pace of play was a little slow today but not that bad. I think we finished just at dark in a little over 4-1/2 hours. I totally recommend this course.
The Sea Ranch Golf Links
Played On 12/10/2017A Course Worth Playing
Have always wanted to play this course so I made a reservation and went up, got a hot deal on golfnow. It is a little bit of a road trip but the drive up along the coast is breathtaking, make it a weekend of golf and road trip. The course is very nice, great layout and some very nice views. I might also add there were probably more deer than golfers this day. I was early but they let me go out and I had a great round of golf. The fairways were in great shape, sand traps had sand and the greens were fast but were among the best I have played on all year. The fellow golfers were repairing their divots, I only had to repair one all day. There are some challenging holes with some forced carries but very playable. They have a snack bar where you can get a hot dog and something to drink. Go up and play this course now while the weather is perfect. I would recommend this course to everyone.
The Lincoln Hills Golf Club - Hills Course
Played On 12/08/2017A Course For Everyone
Have been playing these courses since they opened. I played the Hills Course today which I prefer over the Orchard Course though they are both very nice courses. The fairways were in very good shape as were the greens. The greens were a little fast but you just have to adjust. Beginners would have a nice time on this course, not real hard but fair. They had the snack bar open today, haven't seen that in awhile. Always stop in after a round and have something to eat and drink, very nice and very affordable. As I always put in my comments, this is a golf course not a resort, you get what you pay for. I would recommend this course to everyone.

I am one of those golfers that hates paying more than $40 for a round of golf. That said I did pay $170 for this round, very well spent. I am almost 69 years old and I walked the course checking out everything. The gentlemen I was partnered with had played the course before and he really helped me out. The course is just beautiful, fairways are in just great shape, bunkers have real sand, greens were fast but true and the tee boxes were the best I have ever hit off of. In my ratings for value I put excellent because walking this course you can see that it takes a lot of money to maintain it. As I always put in my reviews you get what you pay for and I got my money's worth today. These courses are really out of my normal expenses but once in a while I do it, I guess you could say one of my bucket lists. Highly recommend this course.
Sharp Park Golf Course
Played On 11/29/2017Nice Course, Nothing Great
First time playing this course. Got a nice deal on Golfnow for 33 dollars to walk. This is a easy course to walk. Nice course for beginners, not real hard. Was told by the people I played with that it is normally a little windy and a little cold as it is next to the ocean. A few of the fairways on the East side of the road were a little wet but playable. The greens were in very good shape and the bunkers were better than most. I enjoyed the round and the beauty of the course. I guess I picked a perfect day, sun was out and the temperature I believe was in the high 60's. It is nothing fancy but a nice place to play. As I always try and state in my reviews, this is a public course not a resort, will play it again.
Mace Meadow Golf & Country Club
Played On 11/18/2017Course Needs Work
Used to play this course a lot before it closed down. Saw that it had opened back up last month so thought I would give it a try. Granted it had rained a few days before so the course was wet. Couldn't take a cart out so walked it. The fairways could use some work, not terrible but I like my ball to sit on grass and not in some holes. The tee boxes need work, very uneven, sand traps even though I didn't go in any need a lot of work. The greens, most were in decent shape but some you could not even putt on. I was told that they are in the process of fixing it up so I am going to come back in the spring and try it again. If they fix it up this is really a nice little course, hope they get it going because I really like the atmosphere. If you can get out for around $20 I would recommend this course.
Blue Rock Springs Golf Course - East
Played On 10/16/2017Nice Course To Play
I have played this course once before and it is a nice course. The East Course is more challenging. This is a nice course for high handicappers as well as seasoned golfers. Not a hard course but there are a couple of holes where some course knowledge would help. Played with a friend and teamed up with another gentleman who plays the course 4 or 5 times a week, my course knowledge for the day. Fairways, greens were in very good shape, traps as with most courses could use some sand. Tee boxes could use some work. The one problem I have is the course allowing fivesomes out there, there were 2 that I saw. They were actually moving pretty good but not a good idea. Even though I have some gripes I still would recommend this course.
Franklin Canyon Golf Course
Played On 09/04/2017A Course Worth Playing
I like to play different courses so I play this course maybe twice a year. The fairways were in good shape, bunkers like most courses could use a little more sand but not terrible and the greens were in pretty good shape (people were fixing their divots). Picked a great day to play, started to cool off and had a little breeze. All groups ahead of us were playing at a very nice clip, we finished in 3-1/2 hours, we were a twosome but there were foursomes out there. There are some holes that require you to be pretty precise or you get yourself in trouble. I really like the course and will play it again. P. S. One thing I try and tell myself is that these are not golf resorts, we pay a lot less so we can play more often. Resorts have a lot of eye appeal which does nothing for your game. Just a thought when writing a review.
Blue Rock Springs Golf Course - East
Played On 08/18/2017Nice Course To Play
Have played both courses before. They are fun to play not too difficult and the price is always pretty good. The course was in pretty good shape, people were actually repairing their divots on the greens. I like to play different courses and I make it a point to come down here a couple of times a year to play. Also from the East Course you will have some great views of the bay. You won't be disappointed in these courses.
The Lincoln Hills Golf Club - Hills Course
Played On 08/04/2017Worth Playing
I play this course a few times a year. Of the two courses here this is the one most people want to play. Greens were in pretty good shape, wish people would repair their divots. Sand traps were good and fairways were good but again wish people would repair their divots. Overall this is a very nice course, it is a little challenging but you will have a nice time playing it.

Played On 04/15/2017Horrible - Have Never Written A Bad Review
Always wanted to play this course. A friend of mine said that it looked like this course was getting ready to close down so I thought I should go up and play it before that happens. I called the golf course for a tee time as Golfnow only showed hot deals that were already taken. The pro shop said they were real busy in the morning but tee times were available in the afternoon. I drove up from Sacramento and driving in things looked ok. The person in the pro shop said that they only had carts available for the back nine so I had to walk the front nine, whew. Got 18 holes for $9 and he gave me the cart for free on the back nine, that should have told me something. I get to the first tee and the GPS shows the nines are backwards. I look at the first fairway and I am flabbergasted, where do I hit to? The fairways and this is for the entire 18 holes are now mowed. I had to look at the placards to get an idea where to hit. I am not kidding, the fairways were second cut of rough and you better hit it straight and watch where your ball hits. There were other people playing, not many and I thought what are they thinking? Were they like me, get out there and then think things have to get better after the 1st hole. I had a push cart and had to stay on the cart path it was so wet. No sand in traps, lots of weeds and water though, greens were mowed I think, the cart for the back nine I thought was going to come apart, no lie. The only thing, I wish I had taken pictures, TERRIBLE.

First time playing all 18 holes. Played the back nine a year and a half ago. Got a good deal on Golfnow so went down and played. The course was in great condition, actually had sand in the traps I went into. Back nine is totally different from the front nine. Nice layout and I played with another twosome, father and son, the father plays here often and I got some good tips. If you haven't played here before you need some course knowledge, some holes you need to hit to some areas. The only thing was slow play. We were a threesome and the group in front were a foursome with three walkers. They weren't the problem, just slow play in front of them. Took almost 5 hours but I really enjoyed the course and will play it again.
Lone Tree Golf Course
Played On 03/17/2017My First Time
First time playing this course. The course was in pretty good shape considering parts of the back nine were flooded about a week and and a half ago, this according to the people I played with. Like most courses the sand traps lack sand, this course was no exception. The fairways were in pretty good shape and the greens, well some were good and some had some problems. It is not a difficult layout but there are some tough holes. It was a fun group to play with and the 19th tee was very good and not that expensive. Will play this course in the future.
Diamond Oaks Municipal Golf Course
Played On 01/17/2017Cold But Had To Get Out And Play
Play this course a few times a year. Nice little course, not real hard but not easy either. We had a lot of rain the previous week so the fairways were a little wet but not bad. The sand traps are about the same for the Sacramento area, not great but OK. The greens were in very good shape, very surprised, not a lot of divots, people were doing a good job of repairing theirs. It was cart path only so the round was a little longer than normal but what the heck, I got out of the house and played a round of golf. I like the course and will play it again.
Black Horse at Bayonet/Black Horse Golf Course
Played On 12/28/2016BEAUTIFUL COURSE, GREAT VIEWS
First time playing Black Horse. Played Bayonet and they are about the same, very tough to play. Everything about the day was perfect, great course, perfect weather and very nice people to play with. Fairways were in great shape as were the bunkers, sand traps and greens. The greens were set up extremely tough this day, very fast and tough pin placements. Had a nice round except for the shots lost in the sand traps, have to work on this part of my game especially when there is actually sand in the traps. This is a great course as is Bayonet and I will be back to play them both again. I highly recommend both of these courses.
Lincoln Park Golf Course
Played On 12/06/2016If the price is right.
It has been 7 and a half years since I last played this course. Beautiful scenery this day, very clear. The course is pretty much the same, greens were in good shape, fairways needed a little work but could blame that on the recent rains, very wet in places and some players probably should not have driven carts out there. The course is not long but a lot of blind and uphill shots. Walkable for the most part even thought some holes go up at a pretty good pace. I will play it again as I like the area. Finished the round in a little over 3 hours with another single. I would say bring your camera as I got some beautiful shots of the Farallon Islands and the Golden Gate. The facilities are old but they are clean. This isn't a 5 start resort, it is a city golf course, more of a starter course for those just starting, just remember that and you will enjoy the course.
TPC Harding Park - Harding Course
Played On 11/03/2016A Course Worth Playing
First time playing this course. Been wanting to play it for a long time but way too expensive for non-residents. Got a great deal from GolfNow so I took it. My deal included a cart but I walked it, a course that is very easy to walk. Fairways, greens and traps were in excellent shape. The rough was tough but not that bad. It is a beautiful course and one of the best muni courses you will ever play. It played a little long for me on a couple of holes because I don't have the length that I used to have. I had lunch before I teed off and the price was very reasonable. One final note. I can still remember the first time I ever stepped foot on this golf course, it was in 1998 and I stepped out of my car and onto one of the fairways, they were using this course as a parking lot for the U.S.Open at the Olympic Club just across the street, my how times have changed, for the good of course.
Pacific Grove Golf Links
Played On 10/25/2016A Must Play
First time playing this course. Been wanting to play it for quite a while and since I was going to be in Monterey I got a tee time. Front nine is very nice, a lot of trees but very nice layout
Back nine is more links, sand dunes and beautiful views of the ocean. Back nine, stay out of the dunes, it is very penal. Fairways, greens were in great shape. This is a course worth playing. For this area well worth the price, you won't be sorry.
Boulder Creek Golf & Country Club
Played On 10/24/2016Good Value
Saw this course about 18 years ago and wanted to play it, no clubs. Played it today. Nice little layout, not real difficult. The course is in decent shape, have seen worse. It would be a course to play if you couldn't find anything else.. I paid $10 to walk it, I wouldn't pay much more than that. I have to say that the first 4 holes I played in the rain. I would play this course again only if I could get the same price. I had a hamburger and fries after the round and they were very good.
Alister MacKenzie at Haggin Oaks Golf Course
Played On 10/18/2016Worth thr money
Hadn't played this course in over 2 years. Been raining so I got the itch to get out and play. The course was in pretty good shape for the amount of rain we had. The fairways were in very good shape, rough was about right, sand traps could use some work and the greens were just too wet from the rain. They rolled them but just too bumpy and the foot traffic didn't help. Probably could have knocked off about 5 strokes with better running greens. Overall I liked the course and will play it again. I have to say that I went out as a single at 3:30 and played the first 9 in a little over an hour. Teamed up with another gentleman to play the last 9 and got in just as the sun went down. Got a very nice deal on golfnow.
