Record cold

The course was in great shape. The greens were perfect and kept in quick shape. Not killer speed, but quick enough to miss short putts.

A longer couse that may look easy from the tee, but has enough twists and turns to increase your score quickly.

Saw a bear cub on the road as I left the facility on the first day. Years of golfing in the Smokies and I see the cub in Daytona, go figure...

With the Golfnow rate, a great deal. Ranks in my top 25 for quality and value.

Needs some TLC

This course has a nice Joe Lee tribute on the 18th hole. It has some interesting holes which are protected by big bunkers. However, the conditions are looking pretty tired. Fairways are weedy and it does not appear that anyone fixes divots.

No ranger in sight most of the round while a man and woman hit numerous balls into the Netherlands and never allow any one to play through.

Nice Course

Wide open fairways and forgiving rough make this a good course for long and short hitters. No forced carrys and only a couple of hazards splitting fairways.

Staff were friendly and helpful. Joined forces with several summer members who were gracious and fun.

Good pricing for conditions, but certainly not a 4 star facility. Comparable to a daily fee course rather than the upscale private clubs in the area.

Too Wet to Play

This course was soaked, I left foot prints just walking in the fairway. I purchased a tee time from Golf Now so it was not the fault of the course. The time should never have been sold.

Looked like a good layout, but everything was colored by the soaked conditions. You could swim in the bunkers.

Suggest that you call the course and check before you play a round. This summer has been awful for courses with the drenching rains.

We try to ensure maximum course availability. If conditions are questionable we evaluate and determine with our superintendent whether or not to open. We try to promote a great golf course but unfortunately it sounds like you were here during the period when we had poor weather. I hope you come back to Martin Downs to play the course soon. The greens are in great shape and the course is finally dry!

Good executive course

First time playing this course in years. Has a driving range which gets plenty of use. Great course for newcomers or golfers like me breaking in new clubs.

A good length which allows for using woods as well as wedges. Greens in good condition, but not speedy.

The cost makes this a wonderful deal. I wish all the visitors who have not played in a year or two would have a warm up round here.

A great value

Played this course 3 or 4 times during my stay in East Tenn. The course was in great shape and the staff was accommodating.

The greens challenge you to putt your best. They are slick without being tricked up. The only improvement suggestion I have is more signage...the course routes around certain holes and it is a long drive if you make a mistake.

Worth the cost of play which is modest for the quality of the product. The views of the Smokies are great so turn around on the tees and enjoy.

A Keeper

The quality of this course is excellent. The views are most enjoyable and there are no homes on the course.

The designer made the course fair but challenging for women. Each hole shares the problems for each tee regardless of where you tee from.

Conditions are great . A wonderful round. Had a fawn follow me for two holes...what a gallery.

Stay away

This course has a nice layout and was once considered to be a quality course. I could not believe the reviews that were critical of the course conditions so I decided to play it.

There are fairway problems, tee bed problems, and green issues. To start weeds are more prevelant than grass in the fairways. Tee beds have been resodded, but with no water on the patches the sod is dying. Greens are full of unrepaied ball marks, and the mowers do not clear clumps of grass off the greens...on one hole the clump was so big we did not see the ball in it.

There are indications that attempts are being made, but basics are ignored. Water the tee bed patches, clear cut grass off the greens, put sand on the carts so that golfers can repair divots, and give away repair tools and ask every golfer to fix two or three marks every green.

This course is not worth the money charged...there are too many well maintained courses within a fifteen minute drive that charge the same rates or less.

I told the pro shop staff all of this and sincerely hope that things change for the better.

Good golfnow value

Played this course years ago when the shape was bad. It is apparent that the course is being kept up and I enjoyed the little putting green.

Golf on Cape Cod is expensive so the Golfnow fees are a relief. Jim in the pro shop was a delight and very helpful (played two nines on separate days). Other staff were not so accomodating. It appeared that I was in the way of their tee off.

Nice way to keep up your golf interest while enjoying Cape Cod. This course will not kill you, but it will not totally satisfy either.

Nice course, a.m.staff need customer service training

Took 2 friends on my Golfnow Rewards to play this course. Rang bell for bag service, a cart appeared with a driver playing with cell phone and ignoring us as we parked and left a guard for the bags, eventually he identified himself as staff and loaded us. Pro Shop attendant did not welcome me, I had to stand at counter while he worked computer, again eventually he acknowledged me and did not seem pleased that we were Golfnow. We asked where the toilets were and he looked at us and said "in the ladies locker room." If we knew where the locker room was we would not have asked. When we got outside, we had to ask how to find water and ice. This course had lots of staff standing around and letting new customers fend for themselves. I know that the some of the staff know better because the afternoon bag man was greeting the pm players with all the important info, water ice, etc.

As for the course, the condition was great and very interesting holes. You will not bounce your ball on the green and when you land you better be able to spin it to a stop.

Course reportedly under new ownership which is supposed to be better than before. If you want the basics of customer service go in the pm.

Cart service and pm bag service was good...we did not eat because of the morning service.

For me, this course was a challenge and enjoyable, but I would not pay $85 for it. I see it as a $40-50 course and that is if the service improves.

Wind Alternative

This course is in great condition. The fairways are full and green, in part because the course enforces the 90 degree rule.

Lots of houses line the course, but they serve as eye candy, mid century modern homes that made me marvel . The views of the canyons are great. No fear of wind on the north course due to the canyons.

If you want a course where you are treated well, can enjoy the surroundings, and have a great pace of play, this is it.

At the end of play, take your bottle of water and proceed up to the oasis, a five minute drive, and enjoy the sound of running water in a desert.

Enjoy .

Great value

The course was in excellent shape and the greens were smooth. My group could not get the greens read well, but there is no doubt that the greens keeper is doing the job.

This Troon operated facility appeared to be well managed, I was greeted well and invited to use the practice facility which included balls in the Golfnow super rate of $45.00.

The starter did put us (a four some) out in front of a two...which had the usual result, but that was the only hiccup.

Take advantage of great rates and great conditions.

Great shop staff

The woman in the pro shop was great. She gave a greeting, necessary information and made me feel that I was welcome.

The couse is lined with condos and houses, but has good separation. It is a pretty straight forward lay out with the exception of 18, take a look at it before you swing.

The course condition was good, it is suffering from the drought and a couple of greens looked like they were drying up.

Overall, there are other courses that are in better shape for the money, but if you want a nice round and want to be appreciated...

Tale of two rounds

This course is my new home course. The fairways are in excellent condition as are the greens. Slow greens in the early part of the day and fast later.

My first day playing was great, hit most fairways most putts fell in one stroke. Second day the winds were up, one fairway hit, getting to the green and staying on was very difficult. What a challenge...

Staff are ok, but could use some help, bag man worked the driving range also. Driving range large and in as great shape as the course.

Locals have described this as a links course, but the fairways are lush and the surrounding canal rarely comes into play.

Great value with or without Golfnow....look at their player cards.

Top 100 ??????

Played this course in the slowest possible time, 5 1/2 hours. The management came out and spoke to the group in front of us early in the round, but that was the end of it.

The forward tee beds were nearly bare on multiple holes, the greens were very difficult to read, great utilization of the elements.

I question the Golf Digest designations. In this case the course condion was average not superior and certainly not manicured. Many of the local So. Cal. Courses were in better shape and had more challenging holes.

All in all $150 is a lot of money to spend to play this course...but you do get bragging rights for a top 100 course.

Do not miss this one

A beautiful course that will challenge your shot making skills. Despite the draught, this course is green and well watered.

The greens are in great shape and you can easily three putt if you fall asleep.

The views are outstanding both while you are playing and when you are driving to the course. The water elements will surprise you , bring your camera. The views here are better than those at Aviara in Carlsbad and so much cheaper...$180 or $40....no contest. Don't get me wrong, Arnies place is manicured to perfection, but this course is in good shape and should keep your interest up.

I am not a club girl so I don't care about the clubhouse...they had a big Tv tuned to March Madness...and they sold drinks. Good enough.

Well managed and responsive

We were concerned because there were a lot of us lining up to tee off. However, the staff knew their system and got all of us off on time.

The pro went out of his way to find the proper slope for me . Not too many pros are even visible during busy hours, much less willing to step outside the box.

The course was in good condition and I want to play it again.

Over priced

These courses are over priced for the quality of play. Even with the discounts there are better courses available to Florida golfers than these.

The layout is good for all types of golfers. We were paired with long hitters and were able to be competitive due to course management.

If you are staying at the facility it is nice to walk outside and have 3 courses available.

Good value

Course conditions were good with the greens in great shape. Wish more golfers would repair divots and ball marks, but...

Busy course with carts coming in and going out at the same time. Starter in firm control of the situation and teaming people as they arrive.

restaurant staff friendly and lots of water available without asking.

We were teamed with some slow guys, but had a great day.
