Sterling Grove Golf & Country Club
Played On 05/03/2021Great track
Can’t wait to play again next year. The fact that the course has been open for a year, it shows as greens are hard but they roll true and smooth. The layout is straightforward but with enough challenges to keep it fun and interesting. The greens are quite insulated so take your time and walk around the hole and pay attention to the slopes.
Preserve Golf Course
Played On 01/24/2017Mixed review
The course is definitely to be played. Greens a bit slow but rolling true. However, it didn't seem that they really care about players that don't belong to the community. There was no information in Golfnow.com that it was cart path only, no information about not having ANY food and beverage outlet (consider that you are in the middle of the mountain, teeing off at 12:15 with 48 degrees and you can't even get a cup of coffee). I played only 9 holes since the front nine took us close to 3 hours.
Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club
Played On 03/02/2016Great layout
Southern Dunes has a great layout with many risk-rewards holes if you play from the correct tee box. Greens are fast but they hold nicely. A great escape from the city courses in Phoenix-Scottsdale. Really worth the drive.
Arizona Biltmore Golf Club - Estates Course
Played On 09/29/2014Nice course
Played the Links course. The back nine has elevation changes and slopes that makes the course fun. Very good condition and great value for the money.
Golf Club at Vistoso
Played On 09/01/2014You need to know the course
The course has a very good layout. Many holes you are not sure where are you going so it gets a bit frustrating. Just needs some trimming on desert landscape to have a better idea. Greens were a bit slow and bumpy but definitely playable.
Talking Stick Golf Club - Piipaash Course
Played On 06/30/2014Nice course
First time playing Talking Stick and a very nice course. Played the North course by myself and it was pretty quick. It's a nice layout with a few challenges. Not many bunkers on the fairway and generous landing areas make it very enjoyable for the average player. I wouldn't pay more than $80 during high season though but as it's a very convenient location and the facilities are in great shape.
Sewailo Golf Club
Played On 04/07/2014Beautiful course
Sewailo is definitely one of those courses that it doesn't seem harmful. Not long par 4's from the Jade tees but bunkers and water comes into play regularly making the club selection crucial. Absolutely to come back. Greens in perfect condition. GPS in the golf cart extremely helpful.
Camelback Golf Club - Ambiente Course
Played On 03/31/2014Nice track, hard greens
Ambiente is a very nice track, open and challenging bunkers placed very well. The down thing about the course are the greens. When you can't see a ball mark on any green it says either that the greens are too new from the renovation or that they found a way to have really cute greens every time. Really tough to keep the ball on them so play a bump and run is a good tactic. I'm not sure if the pace of play was slow due to having to deal a lot of balls running across the greens or if it was busy but it wasn't very quick. I would like to come back next winter to see how the greens are.
TPC Scottsdale - The Champions Course
Played On 03/24/2014Poor green conditions
I've played TPC Champions course several times and, besides the time when they aerify the greens, and this is the first time that I see the course in average conditions, particularly the greens. Great track and great service but this time I have to say that is not worth $87 + tax.
Oakcreek Country Club
Played On 02/23/2014Beautiful course
Oakcreek has every challenge that a golfer needs. Changes of elevation, quick but receptive greens, bunkers strategically placed, water, you name it. The course has very nice views of Sedona red rocks and trees flanking the sides of every fairway, which makes it very peaceful. To play again definitely!!
El Conquistador Golf & Tennis - Pusch X9 Course
Played On 12/30/2013Tricky nine holes
This course is fairly challenging. Mostly because you need a range finder in order to know how far the pin is from your ball. Greens are very sloped so expect three putts. The course is a little gem that is great to fit nine holes in just under two hours if you don't have nobody in front.
Quarry Pines Golf Club
Played On 10/29/2013Great experience!!
Quarry Pines gives you a first impression of a normal muni course. The front nine gradually increases in challenges but be ready because at the turn the fun begins. Incredible layout inside a mine/mountain makes every hole unique with dramatic elevation changes and, the day I played the wind was blowing over 25 mph so it was really difficult but super fun. Playing from the tips the course is just over 6500 but you need to be pretty accurate as the fairways are a bit narrow compared to most of the courses around. Definitely to come back!!!!
Starfire Golf Club - The King Course
Played On 10/22/2013Great deal for late October
Starfire is a nice course with a few challenges despite being quite short. Nice to drive through the grass although it got really slow after the first 9 holes. The greens were a bit slow but understandable after overseeding. A nice escape in Scottsdale.
Scottsdale Silverado Golf Club
Played On 10/07/2013Nice outing
Silverado offers nice challenges. Much more fun back nine than the front. The cart path only doesn't help with the pace of play but that's understandable. Maybe more yardage marks could be helpful.
Verde River Golf & Social Club
Played On 9/6/2013Great conditions for the summer
Vista Verde offers an excellent course for the summer at a great value. The track is very interesting with challenging holes and greens. Staff is very friendly and helpful. I will come back for sure!!
Lookout Mountain Golf Club
Played On 8/19/2013Very interesting course
Lookout Mountain is a pretty short course (from the tips is about 6500 yards) but it has a large amount of challenges from the tees, fairways and bunkers so distance is not exactly very important. Accuracy and planning is a must. The course is well maintained although the greens were slow. It should be very interesting to try this course in the fall/winter.
The Club at Seven Canyons
Played On 8/6/2013Beautiful views
Absolute must play if you go to Sedona. It used to be a private club so they have some strange rules (they allow only alcohol to members only, not that I like to drink while I play but it just seems odd). They charge $25 as a riding fee if you chose to bring someone that's not playing to enjoy the views too. Tee boxes need attention. Fairways need to be marked better. Yardage guide is $11 but if you take the time you can print it from their website, as you will need it to understand where to go and how far to hit it from the tee. Greens were receptive but quick. Due to intense rain probably mid July-August is not the best time to play there. A lot of bunkers were flooded or with excesive wet sand. That being said, the views of the rocks around are absolutely priceless. I would try it again in a different time of the year.
Ventana Canyon - Canyon Course
Played On 7/30/2013Great course in Tucson
The course was in good conditions and the greens were fast and true. The only down thing is that I was supposed to play Mountain but due to the greens being punched we were in Canyon. Overall it was a good experience.
Rancho Manana Golf Club
Played On 7/23/2013Not good value
This is my second time playing this course and despite of some nice holes, the value for the money and service is not up to par. There are several courses in the North Scottsdale area much better and with better service for the same or even a bit less money than Rancho. Fairways and a few bunkers were partially flooded and with little sand in them. No starter was present at the time of tee off and more yardage markers can help a lot more. The beverage cart girl was very nice and present every 4 holes.
Monument at Troon North Golf Club
Played On 7/15/2013A gem in the desert
Troon offers one of the best courses in the Scottsdale area. Greens are receptive but quick, even for the summer in three digits temperature. Awesome views and facilities. Played Monument but I will definitely come back for Pinnacle.
