About
Consistency is the goal. Score isn't always relevant, just getting out to play is. Love old style course design with small greens. After over 40 years of playing I am still learning how to play this silly game and now over 70 I am probably playing as well as I ever did because I play smarter and I don't try for the big hit with a more controlled swing even though I can still hit longer than many my age. Given the opening I can play easily in less than 3 hours. I always preferred to walk but a creaky back dictates that. However I do walk with a push cart when it isn't excessively hot and humid or really wet underfoot on relatively flat or easy walk courses.

Iron Valley Golf Club
Played On 07/10/2019challenging
Second time visiting to play course and seems I pick the hottest days. Pace of play for nine holes behind a couple foursomes on a course not really full was tedious. Front and back nines different but very playable even with a few quirks. Some holes played longer than listed yardage. Visually a great course with views. Must be wonderful in the fall. Greens were on slow side but understand with the extreme weather not cutting them down and speeding them up.
Pinelands Golf Club
Played On 07/10/2019just fun
This course isn't going to host any tournaments but it is in decent shape. the greens were smooth and really good. The fairways not so much but playable. Minimal rough. The holes show they were well thought out winding through the Jersey pines. My long time golf partner and I love going there as it is rarely crowded and it is a fun golf course to play and there are holes that are challenging, not pitch and putt pushovers. Good value and it has a place in the golf world today. It probably is a three but I'll give it a four because I always enjoy a round there as much as the higher price and more highly touted shore courses that aren't too far away.
Mercer Oaks Golf Course - West Course
Played On 06/11/2019pleasantly surprised
I had read reviews and heard people talk so I was trying not to have too high expectations while expecting something good. The course exceeded expectations. On a late afternoon weekday the course was not crowded and play was not restricted in pace. The layout was great with no two holes alike with doglegs going both ways and ample fairways. Greens were very smooth but on the slow side so once I adapted to that putting them was really good. It's a little pricey for out of state players but that's where GolfNow Hot Deals comes in to make it more affordable for a PA resident less than an hour away.

Played On 06/06/2019mildly disappointed
If first impressions are lasting then the starter the afternoon would scare me away, but I like the golf course. First we were going as a two some, then told to wait, then told to go, then told to let two walking members go ahead of us (mostly foursomes on the course), then told to go. We teed off then told to wait for a single and after he topped his tee shot they told the single to wait and put us with a twosome who was waiting and the single was told he could follow us. Once we got started play moved OK. Greens were good mostly but half seemed to not be totally healed from month old aeration. They call it a private club but it's a very loose interpretation allowing public play to individuals seven times a year but not sure how they track it. Overall course in good shape but some of the posted yardage is questionable. We frequently had short waits as the two walking members in front of us were going nowhere and eventually turned into a threesome of walkers with a player who came out of nowhere the last several holes. Can't wait till clubhouse opens and can play from the real first hole although it's Ok finishing an a good par five 10th hole. Hope that starter had a short career there. Club house guy looked out the door and he seemed confused by what was going on, or maybe he was directing it?
Makefield Highlands Golf Club
Played On 06/05/2019good condition
On a normal busy weekday it was still a 4 hour round for our foursome following other golfers. Greens don't look pristine but they putted very well with speed. Course overall is in great shape.
Warminster's Five Ponds Golf Club
Played On 06/02/2019rain out
We got rained out on the 13th hole. That was after starting out on 10 hoping rain cell would pass. It did but dumped so much the greens became unplayable and to credit of the course management, they closed the course and offered pro rated rain checks for anyone who didn't want to wait around for water to run off the greens. Only negative is carts do not have rain hoods. Course was in very good condition and greens were smooth and putted well. They were not nearly as fast as the practice putting green however which threw us off for a couple holes.
McCullough's Emerald Golf Links
Played On 05/28/2019like it more
I have played here before but each time I play it the more I like it. It's a fun course to play and it's not pushover. This day the wind was up which really required concentration. The course overall was in very good condition but the greens were excellent. A smooth fast green is the easiest kind of green to putt on. Just pick a line and get the ball moving. With the wind today it could have been a round of golf in Ireland with rain early and sun later.

Played On 05/21/2019fun day
Hey Dan, didn't see you around today. Played my own mix of gold and white tees. Best drive of the day was dropping one down in the lower fairway on 13 less than 100 yards out from gold tees. Greens on front seemed OK but back nine was recently aerated. Notice the 13th doesn't have fairway cut all the way down the hill anymore and some tree removal has been done. Overall course looks good but wish more money could be put into it and more trees trimmed back or removed. Bunkers were not good. Like the makeshift cart path up the right side of 18 as not allowing carts on the hole.
Hi, thank you for the four stars! We've passed your review onto Dan, but we appreciate your detailed feedback. We are always trying to improve the course where possible. We'll see you again soon!
Philmont Country Club
Played On 05/20/2019old school golf
Private, but if you get an invite or opportunity with an outing, even if it's a scramble, take it. It is old school golf with false fronts and sloping undulating greens over natural hilly terrain. Some holes you need to see to understand where you can hit to. Not everything is as it appears standing on the tee. Greens are great and roll smooth but not always easy to read subtle breaks. You'll remember the ninth hole.
White/Red at Ramblewood Country Club
Played On 05/17/2019nothing special
Nothing special about this facility (27 holes). Blue nine might be best of the three nines with minimal houses. Recommend as a nice public course.
Old York Road Country Club
Played On 04/28/2019Play the right tees
This course is very playable if you play the right tees. I know it sounds like a cliché' but it really fits here especially on the 10th and 11th holes that require a drive over a creek. To layup if you can't carry it 210-220 you are faced with a long approach shot. The greens are undulating and many have false fronts. Balls roll off the greens even hitting good shots into them that aren't spot on. Overall a nice layout and a good mix of holes.
Northampton Valley Country Club
Played On 04/08/2019improving
The new owner, Northampton Township, is not sparing anything in upgrading this facility. Currently the greens and firm and fast after aeration. On course upgrades are being done to bunkers and new cart paths are coming. Pace of play is monitored although it is too early in the season where the golf course isn't packed to get a read on that. Grill Room was upgraded as well for drinks and food before or after a round. Looks like it will be a process but expect with continuing upgrades this will be a first class facility.
Byrd at Sea Trail Golf Resort and Convention Center
Played On 03/07/2019Solid layout
Nice solid layout with a traditional Carolina look and feel. Holes went right and left and didn't favor a particular shot shape. Short par five finishing hole gave me a chance to reach in two. Water in play but no severe forced carries. Very enjoyable course to play.
Thistle Golf Club - Cameron Course
Played On 03/06/2019no pushover
This 27-hold layout has some breather holes but overall it is a legitimate challenge. Water is nearly everywhere but only is it put in your face on a few holes. Mostly you can manage it. Greens were super fast and it was only early spring. Contours on greens combined with speeds created some interesting situations. I was fortunate to have been able to play all 27 holes.
Arcadian Shores Golf Club
Played On 03/05/2019classic
This is a classic old style course by Rees Jones that features angles and risk reward opportunities. It was early spring and very wet yet the fairways seemed to drain really well. Fairways and greens were in midseason condition.
Glen Dornoch Waterway Golf Links
Played On 03/04/2019over hyped?
Enjoyed the course but a tough mix of average and very hard holes. Nine and 18 on the Intra Coastal Waterway pretty and tough. Course conditions were behind other courses we played in the area that week.
Sandpiper Bay Golf & Country Club - Sand Nine
Played On 03/03/2019comfortable
Comfortable residential course. I played all 27 holes on this visit and enjoyed my day. There is always one hole someone doesn't get or like but that isn't a drawback on the layout for me. Conditions with new greens were well ahead of a lot of courses in the area this time of year. Staff great.
Golden Pheasant Golf Club
Played On 12/29/2018wet and windy
It was a late December day after more rain and a little windy but that doesn't factor into the golf course itself. Played senior tees (5200 yards) and cart path only. Fun day overall. Had not played here in maybe 30 years. Some really good par 3's and a couple really nice par 5's. It was quirky on a couple holes but from forward tees had fun making shots I would not normally from white tees. Shot a nice 38 on the back nine. A couple side by side so-so holes not too interesting.
Pendleton Golf Club
Played On 12/07/2018off season
Dorman grass, soft surface conditions, cold air and wind put my senior partner and I on the forward tees. We could have used some locals to play with for help with a couple holes. Other than that it was a good layout using mounding and bunkers to guard the fairways and affect approach shots. Par 3 third hole is a keeper for sure. The par 5's had a variety of design and challenge to them with the double fairway 15th topping the list.
Brickshire Golf Club
Played On 12/06/2018off season
Glad we played the course with regulars or we would have gotten in trouble on a couple holes. I don't mind hilly terrain but I do like to see where I'm going and that wasn't the case of some holes. The back nine was closed so we played the front nine twice. The tee, especially the forward tee, on the third is badly misplaced and the unsuspecting visiting golfer would likely hit what he thought was a good shot and end up in the woods. Also thought the shortish fifth hole was a bit sever with a fairway having a huge slope to it. The two par 3's we played weren't long but were very demanding. I didn't dislike the course but didn't get the replica labeled holes which were not signature holes the average golfer would be familiar with. It is a misleading promotion for those in my thinking.
